Perhaps I caught them on a bad day...I was a quick stop in to get something looked at on my built in retainer that I have had for a decade. The person who checked me in seemed anxious and when Dr Neal came in, she seemed impatient or frustrated and was rather cold. Then Dr Neal got very frustrated at the assistant when the assistant brought her the incorrect tools. Then after she got the correct tools, another assistant hurriedly checked in on us asking if any help was needed. The visit concluded abruptly with her saying no treatment was needed and then she just left the room (no "thanks for stopping by" or anything...).
I kid you not, it felt like a Devil Wears Prada situation where the two assistants seemed anxious/needing to please the boss and the boss seemed impatient with incompetence.
It was just the most bizarre experience I've ever had anywhere , especially growing up my orthodontist in the Midwest was so relaxing and warm. She just seemed very intense and not a warm person. I definitely wouldn't recommend others going to see her if you want to be at ease in the chair.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Lindsay, I am so sorry you had a bad experience. You really must have caught us on a bad day. I sincerely apologize for any awkwardness that it caused. We are training, and that is probably what your noticed with the "help" offered. I sometimes forget that I am speaking an entirely different language than my patients or my newer staff members. I do love that movie... but Anne Hathaway would be a better goal to strive for than Meryl Streep/Anna Wintour. I hope you give us another chance if you ever do need another retainer. I was trying to be frugal with your money and not prescribe any treatment that was not necessary. I hope you have a great day! Thank you so much for the feedback. I will be better because of it. :)

I have LOVED my experience with Neal Smiles! When I went in, I wasn't really sure what I needed or what pricing would be like- I received a referral from my dentist but hadn't had orthodontia since childhood. The consultation was phenomenal, they explained what was going on with my teeth, concerns I had, and we were able to talk about potential payment options. I ended up finding a great interest free payment option and was satisfied with the thorough breakdown I was given of the pricing and process.
I just wrapped up my treatment after 18 months and actually loved going in for my appointments! It was always quick, clean, and easy and the staff were so smart and friendly. I loved chit chatting with them and could tell they cared about me.
Dr. Neal is amazing. She is friendly, professional, and a perfectionist, which I LOVED! I could tell she wasn't going to let me slack off on wearing my retainers or finishing my treatment and my teeth turned out perfectly because of her attention to detail.
Parking is easy, tons of covid measures in place, and super easy communication and scheduling. I love this place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I am a current patient receiving ortho treatment, so I will be objective with my review. Treatment is going well. I can see the improvements already. However, I was due for my 8-week follow-up appointment to receive my new Invisalign trays. Well, that did not happen. The orthodontic assistant asked me multiple times if "I was sure. I wasn't given the rest of my trays during my previous visit, " for which I had to indicate numerous times that I was sure and that I was only given up to tray #8. It was when the orthodontist read the chart notes and realized that the Neal Smiles Orthodontics team had forgotten to order my trays. After all the fiasco, The Seal Smiles team, still did not acknowledge that their lack of organization ended up resulting in me not getting my Invisalign trays as per the treatment plan. I was only told that I needed to come back the following week to pick up the Invisalign trays and that at that time I will schedule the follow-up appointment.
I recommend that the team ensure that trays are ordered and ready to be distributed to patients as the schedule indicates. I understand we are all humans and make errors, but acknowledgment and organization are crucial to providing excellent client satisfaction.
I look forward to continuing my treatment and seeing the results.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Caleb M.Minato City, Japan6925682Mar 25, 2018
I've had the privilege over the last couple of years to have had substantial work done on my face by Dr. Neal and her team and they really are the best.
There have been times over my treatment when I have been frustrated with service, or been annoyed that office is closed on a day when I would like to reach them, but the response has always been professional and understanding from the people that work there as they have been more than accommodating for my busy schedule with regards to my treatment.
That's a lot of words to say that I've had to reschedule more than I would like due to work and the office is understanding, but that's the case.
The office is clean, easy to find, and has plenty of parking. They open early and are often around till later in the day so that patients can find a time that works for them to visit.
The finances, charges, etc, were all explained up front and I was given time to think on it before I had to make a decision. The staff was not pushy, and presented several different options for me to chose from.
As this was my second round of braces, I was given options that involved things other than Invisalign due to some challenges with my teeth even though I ultimately selected the Invisalign option.
Dr. Neal is an excellent orthodontist for Kirkland residents.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I really wish I had gone with Clements Orthodontics instead of Neal Smiles.
Scheduling was very hard. The front desk staff did not listen when I told them I am a single mother and teacher. I cannot get my child to the office at 11:20 am! You can offer me that time slot every.single.time but I can't do it. So then I'd have to wait an extra month or so for a manageable time.
Also, they have a reward system where they give dollars for good hygiene, wearing their advertising t-shirt, etc but one of the criteria is "being awesome". My child never got that as hard as she tried. Way to make kids feel awful!
In fact, they took off her colored bands at one point because they said she wasn't keeping her teeth clean enough. Replaced with clear bands. She rededicated herself to brushing and flossing and did an amazing job. But the next appointment 8 weeks later, , they refused to put the fun colored bands back on even though they told her she was doing an amazing job. They said she needed to prove it for another 8 weeks. She became very afraid to go back to the office that her hard work would not be good enough.
They will also spam you constantly to vote for the office as best ortho on whatever the contest of the day is. That's just another way for them to gain money and customers.
My friends all go to Karen Clements and I really wish I had also.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Julie, Thank you your review. I am so sorry your do not feel we have met your expectations. It is our primary goal to not only give our patients beautiful smiles, but to exceed your expectations regarding service. If your daughter is still in treatment, it would be helpful to give me a call to discuss these issues prior to her next appointment. Some kids try very hard, and still don't have the dexterity. It is good to know that you are seeing an effort at home, and we can tailor our appointment appropriately since it is difficult to know which kids are actually trying, versus not really doing what they need to be doing to keep their braces clean. The "colored" ties make it much more difficult to keep clean, so if she is having difficulty, that is why she didn't get them. Regarding our Neal Notes, they are extremely popular. We usually reserve the "being awesome" for kids that have had an exceedingly difficult time with their appointment, or do community service, etc... Your concerns will be taken under consideration since I never really thought about it that way, and it is certainly not our intention of making your daughter feel bad. Finally, as you can imagine, our after school appointments are extremely popular. If the appointments are made in advance, it is usually not an issue to get them. If appointments are rescheduled or if you wait to make the appointment within a couple of weeks, they will be taken. We try our best to accommodate as many after school appointments as possible by putting the longer appointments during the school and work day. In fact, we almost always work school holidays as well to help the kids miss as little school as possible. If you would like to be taken off of our emails, please call the office as well. We can remove your email and you will not be sent this communication. I would love to speak to you. Thanks- Dr. Neal

Had one of those complicated bites over which dentists invariably said, "You really need to see an orthodontist." Finally (at 48 years old) decided it was now or never. Dr Neal recommended two routes: (1) traditional braces; (2) jaw surgery to help correct the bite. When I resisted both suggestions, she found ways to make MY priorities work, and for that she's #1 in my book.
Apparently I expanded her confidence in Invisalign, because it's truly a miracle what Invisalign managed to achieve with my crowded and misaligned bite. As well, when my face went white at the mention of jaw surgery and she realized how much I truly wanted to avoid this path, she was willing to work with me without surgery involved. It's rare to find a specialist who recognizes their patients' overall pictures and manages to respectfully make things work within that framework.
The staff is welcoming and very "on it" - truly kind, caring people. Great customer service too - when I accidentally interrupted their lunch hour meeting to get some extra supplies, the gals / Dr Neal were gracious and stopped everything to help me.
And did I mention the very cool parties this place throws? Obviously geared more towards kids but that works for this Mom-patient. . . roller skating, pizza, turtles, snakes, bouncy houses - gotta love this whole experience!
The place runs like clockwork and as anyone knows who's had ortho work, you visit often for adjustments / checks / etc. so you would see inconsistencies over time. None here. Well run business and exceptional customer care.
My dentist of 11 years sends his daughter to Dr Neal for treatment - if that's not enough of an endorsement, what is? I too highly recommend Dr Neal's services.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - M T.Seattle, WA24161Dec 7, 2017
RIP OFF! I had double insurance coverage and paid for my Invisalign up front, which is what they require at Neal Smiles. I also had to pay for my retainer before it even would be ordered. My two friends who were also doing Invisalign at the same time at two different orthodontists were both paying much less than I was, which I thought was unfortunate. The service was OK, by the end of my care there they were remodeling the office and taking over another suite to expand. Now they are sending me a bill after it is all over for over $500! What a rip off! I already paid, and paid well, for everything!!
I wonder if they are expecting me to pitch in for their remodel expenses!! Also I see in other reviews that Dr. Neal had rented a theater where they showed a new release movie, provided pizza and snacks and encouraged her patients to bring friends and family! I THINK THIS IS WHAT I MIGHT BE PAYING FOR WITH THE INFLATED PRICES AND GETTING A BILL LONG AFTER PAYING AHEAD IN FULL!! NOT HAPPY.
**update: I see that see that there's a response that states M. Neil says that she tried to contact me. I don't see that She ever tried to contact me. The contact that I received from her office stated that my treatment was completed even though I never had my retainer fitting done. So basically they were saying 'they' were done with me because I posted this review. The funny thing is I let the front office staff know that I was going to post a review before I did it and exactly why I was going to post a review and their front office staff said "OK that's fine!"-then after I'd done it I received several calls asking me to take down my review. So I felt like basically they didn't want to deal with my issues when I wanted to deal with them but then they just dropped me as a client when I took to yelp. So now I'll have to start over with a new orthodontist if I ever have problems thanks a lot Neal smiles.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hey M.T. I tried to call you to discuss this several months ago but did not receive a call back. There are a couple of things that are unclear in your post. The first point is that a retainer is included in your original estimate and that anything charged later would have been for extra retainers which we require payment for at the time of service since we have to pay to have them made. Our fees are well within alignment with other orthodontists in the community, most, if not all, of which have way less experience than me with invisalign treatment. Fees are dependent on the complexity of the case so it is very difficult to compare with friends whom may or may not have a similar need. I think in the end, we worked very hard to get your insurance to pay and spent countless hours with your insurance company, despite being given the incorrect information initially which is where the confusion happened. I believe you ended up getting your full insurance benefit after our extra efforts... is that correct? Yes, we do lots of things for our patients and the community. We sponsor schools, LWYSA, northwest harvest, the boys and girls club, do end of the year parties, provide information on scholarships, and anything we can to support the people that help our office be successful. This is a major part of our mission, and I am sorry you saw it as self serving. I would love for you to call me to discuss these issues or, if you feel that they have been taken care of, kindly update the review.

Dr. Neal and her staff did a great job with my braces. I moved to WA in the middle of the orthodontic treatment, and Dr. Neal's office stepped right in and brought me through the treatment.
The desk staff and assistants are always cheerful and helpful, and they were flexible with appointment scheduling.
Thank you Dr. Neal, and thanks to Sara, Shell, Stacy, and the rest of the staff!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
