After mourning the loss of Om Threading around the corner on Lexington, I popped into Meena Threading. Yelp reviews were a bit dicey but I took a chance since I needed an upper lip wax and eyebrow threading. Jasmine was the only one working and I think she did a great job! The upper lip wax was quick and she asked if she could thread the rest clean, which I appreciated. She did try and sell me on my chin, which I have never gotten done since I've never ever needed the service so I was slightly confused (but hey, when you gotta sell, you gotta sell!!). Eyebrow threading was equally quick. I tend to get them shaped with a high arch as much as I can (my natural arch isn't too steep) but I didn't have any exemplar pics teed up so I had Jasmine clean them. She kept the natural arch and medium thickness so that's great.
Service: fast, friendly, and professional! Nice casual conversation.
Business: I went at 12:45 pm on a Tuesday, the place was empty.
Space: very spacious and clean salon, there were about 4 salon chairs and seats for other customers to wait.
Price: eyebrow threading - $7 (seems to have recently increased by $1); upper lip wax: $5
Frequent customer card: yes, the 10th threading is free.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sara W.Brooklyn, NY8219Mar 7, 2019
They do a good job with brows and waxing, that's it. I highly suggest NEVER using them for eyelash extensions. I got mine done for the 1st time ever there, didn't really have much knowledge about the process (which is totally my fault) anyhow - went home and did research & picture comparisons.. they did a HORRENDOUS job. There were black clumps all across my eyelids that could be seen by everyone. I went back the next day, they removed them and redid them for free. But after viewing YouTube videos of professionals who have taken training courses in extensions - they are completely doing it unethically, and incorrect. A bit unsanitary as well. Not once did they wipe off my existing mascara, or do any prep. They just sat me down and started glueing away. They are great for a quick eyebrow threading and do a good job - but I would not recommend them for ANY other purpose.

Eyebrow threading for $6? I'm game.
It wasn't bad at all, as a matter of fact I liked the results of their threading work and I have been going back since it is in a convenient location for me.
I always do walk in, and never waited for more than 6 minutes. The place obviously lacks the upper scale decoration you can find at other threading salons around the area, and seldom you'll find trash cans full of the wiping tissues and threading strings that needs to be empty. Other than that, threading wise everything is clean and the ladies usually do a good job.
If you are afraid of them thinning out your brows too much, I say you should speak up when you sit on that chair. Don't expect them to magically know what you are wishing for.
The only downside is that often the staff chat up in their native language (I know this is NYC and foreign language is everywhere but come on be more tactful... you have customers right here who don't speak your language). And sometimes after they ask you if you want to get your upper lip down, they will say a few sentence to another staff after you tell her "No". It makes me wonder if she was commenting on me: "Ha! no upper lip threading? So this one enjoys being a mustache lady...".
Oh well, I'll suck it up for the price...
ps. Grab the card by the cash register. You can get a freebie after 9th eyebrow threading. Also, min. of $10 for credit cards.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Sid V.Mountain View, CA65Mar 13, 2011
I would like to share my experience of visiting this Threading Salon, so that you can stay away from it!
If I could give a '0' rating - I would!
I went in with a friend and was appalled at the attitude of the staff! Firstly, in spite of the salon being absolutely empty with no clients, we had to wait as one of the staff was busy on the phone and the other was ignorant of whatever was being requested of her.
My young friend has recently been fitted with a medical device which restricts certain postures and activities. She therefore very politely requested the staff at the salon if she could get the waxing of the legs done in the sitting or the standing position as she would be unable to lie on her tummy while the back of the legs were being done.
Instead of even trying to understand what was being asked, the reply was in the negative and to top it all the girl had the gall to ask what the need was to get waxing done if she had a medical condition!
If this is not the height of insensitivity and utter disregard for a consumer I wonder what is!
It did not take long for us to walk next door to a more courteous and empathetic salon which catered to my friend's needs!
Pull up your socks Meena... [and your waxing strips for that matter] !
Certainly would not recommend this place even to my enemies!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lady O.New York, NY143353Dec 10, 2008
Hey ladies-
You know that "ZOMFG I'm totally bare" feeling you get after a bikini wax? Well imagine feeling that...ON YOUR FACE!
I'm a hairy girl by nature, so one day outta curiosity, I decided to try a new threading place. I walked upstairs to the salon, and asked the chick on duty to thread "all of this"...while gesturing to my upper lip, eyebrows, chin, and side burns. I've been blessed/cursed with a fine layer of blond facial hair, yet thick Middle-Eastern eyebrows that will connect if left to their own devices...hence the need for maintenance.
Maybe I shoulda been more specific, because she proceeded to thread my ENTIRE FACE. The whole fucking thing! Everything below my hairline was removed (aside from my eyebrows) and it felt...weird. The process itself was painful because she was really slow (espesh over/under the lips) but 20 minutes/$20 later, I felt oddly aerodynamic - like a swimmer who shaves everything the night before the race to prevent drag.
It was TOO intense of a feeling...so much so, that I couldn't stop touching my face and thinking I was high. And I didn't need that on a Saturday afternoon.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Julia H.Manhattan, NY947Aug 23, 2011
I came here because of the reviews on yelp. My office had just moved so I was looking for a new threading place since threading has been my preference for eyebrow-hair removal for the last 8 years.
This place gets two good stars because people were nice and the place was fine-looking.
Minus three stars because my eyebrows came out bad. One eyebrow is now longer than the other and the shape is uneven and off in-between the eyebrows. The service was quick (that's good, i guess) but the job came out blotched.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Foram M.San Francisco, CA2604439Jul 24, 2014
My 5-star rating is elicited for one reason: Great eyebrow threading every time. And you seriously can't beat $6 (although there are at least 3 other places within 2 blocks who are competitive in their pricing).
My brows are never too thin, and they're quick and precise. I was hesitant to have my brows done by another woman that I hadn't seen before, but I'm pretty sure all of the women have threaded me, and I'm A-OK with them all. I usually can't suffer through the excruciating pain of getting my upper lip done, but these women are quick and efficient.
Also, bonus points for the rewards card. Free threading every 10th time you go -- can't complain about that! For the most part, the women are pretty friendly too. I'd definitely recommend this salon for a good threading.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stephanie Y.New York, NY876124425Aug 7, 2011
I came onto to threading a few years ago when waxing became too taxing for my sensitive skin. I never had a problem here so am surprised to see a low rating. I went to both this locale and the one in Midtown East. Always can walk in with no appointment. They adhere to your eyebrows requests (mine are, thick only, just clean it up and very bit off the top)...
Sometimes there is a wait after work around 5pm or so... but usually it's just 15 minutes at most. The mid-east locale surprisingly is not as crowded. Sadly I know none of the girls names. They have a frequent customer card, and am happy to honor a free eyebrows when you've filled 10 times.
Eyebrows are 8, lip is 5...and they take card; you can even tip on the card. I usu. do $2. Facilities are clean.
I have moved from the neighborhood and found a new brow place but I have nothing bad to say about Meena's.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Pamela B.Colonia, NJ1038229Sep 2, 2009
I usually go to Pinky's on 6th Avenue but I happened to be in the area and spot this little threading shop. I really needed to get my eyebrows done, so I figured I would give them a shot. When I walked in I explained to the girl that I dont like my eyebrows very thin and I just want her to clean up the few stray hairs and not really reshape them. I must have explained that I did not like them thin 4654654365746541 times. After she was done with the first eyebrow I glanced up and realized that she had made my eyebrows not only ridiculously round (picture constant surprise expression) but she had made them SUPER THIN (like a few hairs connecting. I think it hurt so much because she was removing my ENTIRE eyebrow pretty much. When I asked her why she made it so thin (after I repeatedly asked her not to) she started to scream at me that they were like that when I walked in.
I should have known something was up with this place when I walked by at lunch and it was TOTALLY EMPTY. If you care at all about the way your eyebrows look (and I assume you do because you are researching threading salons) avoid this salon at all costs! AWFUL!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Citygirl ..Manhattan, NY25215Nov 6, 2012
PLEASE Don't even think of going here !!
The women working here seems like trainees and have no clue how to even hold the thread! They took one of my eyebrow-Off !!!! I'm still in shock really !
And when I asked the lady's name she refused to give me her name. The owner apparently never visits the salon !
I had heard some horrible reviews but thought how bad can a eyebrow threading be?
The women working there are RUDE, INCOMPETENT and just as DIRTY as the salon!!! Stay Away .
There are lot of threading salons in the neighborhood. I wish I had read Yelp reviews before. Now I have to live with penciling my eyebrow & look like a freak :(Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
