A solid breakfast that we had in our hotel the first morning of our trip to Seattle. Full disclosure, we had a $10 discount because of our Expedia status so we thought why not.

Turns out you should eat here because it is just plain good. Our waiter greeted us warmly, was friendly and very good at what he did. The food arrived quickly, was well prepared and tasted great.

I am still stymied as to why I have to butter my own toast, but loved the good sized piece of rye that I got. The hash browns were more meaty than we are used to, but they had a nice mouth feel and were very good.

Our tea was loose leaf, and brought in a French press type of vessel that yielded a great cup of tea, not an easy accomplishment in our experience.

Discount aside, you would be well served to eat here at the Hotel Five establishment, you will not be disappointed, we certainly were not!

A great way to fuel up prior to a day of sightseeing!

To be real, I hated this place! We're staying at hotel 5 and decided to eat here out of convenience this morning thinking it would be a quick, easy meal. Nope.

Only 2 other parties in the little restaurant. We sat down and ordered some water and juice. I ordered the maple bacon Belgian waffle sliders and my fiancé had max's breakfast which consisted of one egg, some hash browns, 2 pieces of bacon and 1 piece of half toasted sourdough.

Whatever, I would've been fine with it if it didn't take 45 minutes to get to our table. Literally a 4 minute meal that took 45 minutes.

The Belgian waffle sliders had these giant globs of I guess butter mixed with berries and the other mixed with maple/bacon - but huge and gross amounts. Really weird and not what I was expecting once I ordered.

Apparently the delay was the waffle maker wasn't turned on in the morning, I don't know what the case was but this restaurant just sucked. The server gave us a 20% discount for waiting so long but I wouldn't waste my time coming back here when there are a ton of other options in Seattle that will blow max's cafe away.

The service was a little slow. People seated after us were eating long before & another customer got her meal free (oatmeal) due to delay. Aside from that, the food was okay. Not something we will go out of our way to get. But there is a great place across the street so.....

French toast with compote - super thick, very dry as it seems they did not dredge the brioche well enough
Eggs Benedict - okay. Small amount of thin ham, eggs poached hard, light on the hollandaise, muffins were over done & hard to cut or chew

Great little cafe underneath the hotel. I ordered Max's breakfast and it was delicious.
I would recommend this place if you want a quick bite with affordable prices.
I would definitely eat there again when I'm in town, even if I'm not staying at this hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel FIVE and Max's Cafe is next to the lobby. I ordered up some Eggs Benedict and a Bacon Mary. They were brought up to the room in a flash and the food and drink were delicious! Please be forewarned that they do add on a $2 charge and an additional 18% gratuity to the bill if you're going to have them deliver it to the room. We were lazy as hell and had it delivered. It was great.

The Bacon Mary was legendary and a meal unto itself, because it's loaded up with bacon, a cheese cube, olive, celery, and rimmed with black pepper sea salt. It's potent and it definitely woke me up since we had a busy day ahead of us. Max's Cafe was tops!

      Updated review

So after management apologized for my earlier experience, I gave them another try, this time eating in and th experience was quite different.

The staff was still super friendly, but the food, Max's breakfast, which consisted of hash browns, egg and a meat of your choice (ham), was quite different.
The eggs, I ordered scrambled, were fluffy and tasted quite nice (though I like them more salty, but that was easily fixed).
The ham was fried so it was nice and hot, but still juicy and the hash browns were nice and crispy on the bottom, but not totally crisp, which I like. It, too lacked some salt for my taste though.
And it also came with two slices of bread (several choices) and my sourdough was toasted just enough so it could withstand the butter I put on it.
Oh, and the overall portion size was quite big. I was pretty stuffed after.

Overall a much different experience than before.
I still prefer some of the food more salty, but when you eat in that's easily fixed and I get that there might not like it this way.

So, maybe I caught them on an off day before or they just aren't used to on the go orders, but this was definitely more in line with the other Yelp reviews I read.

This cafe is great for some decent breakfast. Brian is great and very informative of the menu. I ordered the Belgian waffle sliders, Elvis style and he told me I was in for a treat. First off, the Belgian waffle was amazing. Very fluffy and great exterior texture. The waffle had grilled banana, peanut butter and bacon inside. This was crazy, but delicious. The breakfast sandwiches are also very fresh and tasty. It's affordable and yummy.

This is a review of lunch at Max's Cafe inside the Five Hotel.

The staff was super friendly and effective.

The ambiance is that of a simple basic cafe. It was clean and well kept.

      Caprese Sandwich + Chicken

Caprese Sandwich + Chicken - This was a nice sandwich. It was freshly prepared. The mozzarella was warm and creamy. The bun was soft and very flavourful. The only negative was the chicken was very bland.

My brother had the Eggs Benedict and enjoyed it.

Overall - This was a nice little lunch. It isn't the kind of place you go out of the way to visit. But, if you are in the neighbourhood and need a decent lunch or breakfast, Max's Cafe can do the trick.

(One note - The server mentioned they were closing soon for a complete renovation. I do not know when this is occurring.)

Excellent service. Great location and the breakfast, delicious.
I tried the smoked salmon bagel and my wife had the french toast. Both were fantastic. This is a place to try when visiting Seattle.

Staying at Hotel Five and I just have the Max's cafe a try. The waiter was very friendly and nice. The environment is casual and relaxing. Not too crowded and I sat by the window with lots Natural lights. I don't eat dairy product and I don't eat meat, the wait was very accommodating as she'd remember to take away butter for my bread :)
I ordered their daily special omelet southern style- with avocados, red onions, and something that I took of because of the cream. It was delicious and delightful. The house salad was dressed perfectly without the greens drowning in the sauce. The bread comes with the meal, and it's from the local bakery down the street, their berry jam is house made-- my favorite part. Fresh, light, not too sweet. And it pairs really well with the fresh bread. I highly recommend it!
