Reading the reviews and boy are they mixed... Never EVER had a bad meal here. The place is cozy and friendly and you aren't bumping elbows with a stranger sitting next to you. The drinks are reasonable and generously poured. The dinners and sandwiches are all huge compared to other establishments. You can go down the street and get cheaper but you won't find better! Since they don't take reservations I was surprised to read the review complaining about the waiting time. It's well worth the wait every single time. If your into fancy schmancy then this may not be the place for you... If you want good ole down home goodness... This is it!!! The prime rib is to die for!!!

We always plan for a little extra time. Nice variety on the menu. While they don't have drought beer, they have a wide variety of bottled. The barn ham and cheese and the specialty chicken sandwiches are go tos for us!

Maxi's Food and Spirits Barn has THE best New York Strips! I was upstairs in the bar area on Saturday March 4th and had the best 16oz Medium Rare Steak ever! They offer delicious sides like a salad with your choice of ingredients and dressings, green beans with onions and bacon, wild rice, baked potato. I have had all the delicious sides! I have to say the soups are great too! Potato soup, chili and their stuffed green pepper soup could be a meal on it's own! They make their own cheese for a side of crackers and cheese. Try it! Add onions and mushrooms to your steaks as toppers, you won't be disappointed!!! The bread that comes with the meal I have taken home many times to make a snack with pepperoni and mozzarella! Delicious! I love the staff and they do a great job making your experience awesome!!!

We took our family to Maxis tonight for a birthday party. The waitress was nice, but made several mistakes. When one of our party did not even get their meal, we asked that she have another. It never came. The waitress brought her some thing she did not even order. my husband asked to speak with the manager. The manager was rude and condescending and said we just wanted free food. The order that came in that we did not order, was not eaten. He asked that it be removed from the ticket. Again, we were pretty much told we were just asking for free food. Obviously, this place is involved in some sort of a management crisis. Everyone was rude and obnoxious except our waitress. Sadly, 13 of us will never eat there again.

Went here while I was home for Christmas. Not going to lie I was very skeptical going into the restaurant. But I actually really enjoyed it. It was cheap and quick for sure

This place has been around for a long time! We've been to this place a handful of times throughout the years. Due to the pricing, it's not something we would frequent often. The staff was kind and friendly. Food used to be very good. Compared to just a few years ago, the flavor and quality has just gone down hill. The salads are not fresh. It appears they use iceberg shredded lettuce. The steak I ordered was bland and dry as well as the rack of ribs my wife ordered. The restaurant needs to go back to its roots and put flavor and quality first. If you want better food and cheaper pricing, go to Texas Roadhouse a couple buildings South from there.

We come here quite often. Never have we had bad meal or service. The staff are always attentive and very prompt Unfortunately some people believe they are a fast food restaurant. They are not. Their awesome meals are cooked very well and in timely manner. Unfortunately now a days people feel they are owed something more. Apparently they do not get that at home or they wouldn't be out to eat. The internet has made it easy for people to complain anonymously without proof of experience. I give them 5 stars because they deserve it . The customer is not always right.

In the words of their own Manager "Go to Texas Roadhouse". My order would have been $16 dollars cheaper, better quality meats, better flavor, better service, and complimentary rolls. Hopefully the owner sees this and does some training before the current management runs this once beloved restaurant into the ground. (Have been going to Maxi's for the last 20 years).

My heart hurts writing this review. This used to be my favorite restaurant as a child all the way through my college years. I had moved out of the area but was so excited when my friend decided to go there for a little birthday celebration and I was invited along. Most of the people there were his parents, grandparents, and his brothers with their spouses/girlfriends.
At first, everything seemed fine, we ordered quite a few appetizers and while they weren't great, it was okay. After we ordered our main meals and they were delivered is when things started to get really bad. All of the steaks were very bland, with no seasoning or flavor, the onions were barely cooked and the mushrooms were flavorless. Felt like they may have come out of a can. I had a sirloin dinner, my husband got a NY strip steak, my 7-year-old got chicken nuggets (they were dinosaur shaped and looked like they came frozen from a grocery store), my 4-year-old got Mac & Cheese (which we are pretty sure came from a Kraft box). Three people ordered the baked Tilapia, two of them received it, and one was delivered baked shrimp. When the girl who was given the shrimp told the waitress of the error, the waitress replied, "No, you ordered the shrimp." We informed the waitress that no, we ordered three tilapia, no shrimp, she said, "Well, you'll like the shrimp better. Trust me." and then promptly walked away. The poor girl at our table tried the shrimp and it was awful, it had a terrible after-flavor. Her boyfriend tried it and immediately spit it out, the shrimp was that bad.
When the waitress came back, we told her that the girl did not like the shrimp and she would like to have the tilapia that was ordered we were told it would take 20 minutes to bake the tilapia. We agreed to that and 30 minutes later, the girl still did not have her tilapia meal. The rest of our group was done eating. We asked the waitress when it would be done, and she didn't know. The grandpa in the group asked if he could see the manager, who came out and was immediately aggressive toward our group. Arms crossed and a scowl on her face she bluntly said, "What!?" It was explained to the manager the situation about the mixed-up order, how it had been over a half hour now and still no meal for the girl at our table and we were wondering if anything could be done to adjust the amount of her meal. We weren't asking for all of our meals to be compensated, our group had easily purchased over $300 in food there and we were only asking for the issue with the one girl's meal, which she still hadn't received, to be adjusted. The manager said, "No! If you take it, you buy it." We then asked if the meal could be boxed up to go so she could at least eat it later since the rest of the group was done and we had been there at least 2 hours by this point. The manager huffed and stormed away, cursing about us and yelling about our table to the kitchen staff. We were sitting right next to the kitchen and could hear everything. It was awful. One of the members at our table told them we could hear them talking about us, and they only got more belligerent.
We asked for our checks (still hadn't received the tilapia) and the shrimp meal was on the checks. We told them we would pay for all of our food, but we weren't paying for the shrimp, since we didn't even order that and it remained uneaten on the table. The manager was very upset and started yelling at us, but the shrimp was taken off of the check. We paid, left a good tip for the poor waitress caught in the middle of the manager's anger, and told the manager we would never return. I never thought I'd ever say, "I'll never return to your restaurant" to someone's face, but I did last night. I have never had such a terrible experience. If the food wasn't great, I would have just thought it was an off night, but the way the manager reacted aggressively, cursed, and talked behind our backs and the staff in the kitchen joined right in to talk about us even though we hadn't done anything and only our waitress had interacted with us previously has ruined Maxi's for me. This went from my favorite childhood restaurant to one I will never step foot in again. Oh, and the girl still never got her tilapia meal. They refused to give it to us at the end since we said we would not be returning. Honestly, that's probably for the best, the fish wasn't good during the meal so it was probably a blessing in disguise that she didn't get it.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0
