Can't say anything about the doctor since I never had a chance to see them...but I decided to leave due to the receptionists attitude/professionalism.
I made an appointment to see Dr. Fernandez for lower back pains. Appointment was made for 2PM.
I arrived at 1:45 and saw that both receptionists were eating lunch in the backroom. No big deal, if it's your lunch time...you need to eat, even though i don't understand how both took their break at the same time and left the front desk empty. I signed my name onto the paper and waited. About waiting half hour, I asked one of the receptionists if she can help since I've been waiting for 30 minutes. Her response? "Sorry, from 1:45 - 2:45 is our lunch break, no one can help you".
I told her that I was scheduled over the phone for a 2PM appointment and she said she can't check the computer because she was on her "lunch break".
With that attitude, I walked out.
Horrendous service. Never again.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Erin N.Queens, NY78714Oct 28, 2021
I have had a fantastic experience with Dr Rief and all the staff at Max Health!
I first went to Max Health 4 years ago after experiencing terrible neck and back pain. Initially I selected Max Health because I only go to female doctors and I was planning to see the female chiropractor in the office. When I arrived, I was told I would be seen by Dr. Rief, a male chiropractor. I was understandably surprised but agreed to speak with him. He let me know that his female colleague had an accident earlier that week and broke her arm so she would not be able to treat me. I explained my hesitations to him about working with a male chiropractor and he reassured me of his professionalism and dedication to providing good care. He made me feel safe and comfortable and so I decided to go forward. I saw Dr. Rief 1-2 times per week for several months and he helped me immensely.
Fast forward to This year- I had a terrible fall in July, tore my hamstring and hurt my neck and back. I had the worst headache of my life and after visiting several medical doctors I turned to Dr. Rief and the staff at Max Health Center. Unfortunately they don't take my insurance but I pay out of pocket because it's totally worth it!
What a game changer! When I first started seeing Dr. Rief in September I could not sit up or stand without experiencing immediate, excruciating, debilitating head and neck pain. I had laid in my bed for a month straight at that point it was so bad. He listened carefully to my situation and then he and the massage therapist worked on me for 90 minutes! (Game changer!)
I have been going twice a week for more than a month and the difference is night and day. I am getting my life back!!
Dr. Rief and all of the staff at this office care deeply for their patients and their wellness. I have never had to wait for an appointment. I have never once had to wait in the waiting room. I show up on time- they see me on time. The massage therapists are fantastic- in their care and their spirit. The staff are professional and all are a pleasure to deal with. They don't even complain when I ask for a note for my job after every appointment! Dr. Rief has changed my life twice and I am so grateful. I cannot recommend this practice enough! Go there!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John T.Bronx, NY03Jul 28, 2016
I am a 45 y/o Marine Veteran who obviously from life have back problems. I had a terrible head on collision early last year and familiar with the No-Fault business I began to research an office that wasn't just pushing patients through as cattle for the pay out. I needed someone who was in it for the passion not just the payout.
After conducting my own research on a couple of chiropractor and therapy offices I decided on giving Max Health a try. When I first walked through the door the environment was relaxing and inviting. The staff is amazing always very courteous and helpful. Dr. Ruth is very dedicated to her business and her no frills, tell you how it is attitude, is very much respected as I would prefer to know exactly what I'm coming into as oppose to guessing being told otherwise and feeling as such. If pervious and future patients are going to write a negative reviews because the staff is not providing the results they were expecting just because they are not waiting for you at the front door with warm milk and a plate full of cookies then additional to chiropractic healing you may want to look into addressing your mental health as well.
Once I began therapy and was on my way to recovering there were some scheduling hiccups along the way, but we have to understand things like this will happen in every profession. The fact that we are dealing with humans that will run late, may have an emergency or are just dealing with other patients that may not be feeling 100% on that day doesn't mean we need to feel entitled and write a negative review so that someone who may have a better opportunity at healing themselves properly will be discouraged. The key to every successful relationship, even a professional one, is communication. If you are not feeling comfortable on your visit in any way just relay that message to Dr. Ruth and I will guarantee she will accommodate you as best she can.
I would fully recommend this office to everyone who is focused on heal themselves properly and not focus on initiating a critics career.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Constance U.Bronx, NY235May 5, 2017
I am 64 years old and have been going there for my adjustments for about four years. My experience has been great. I had a real problem with my lower back that was recurring until I went to Max-health. Dr. Reif is awesome and friendly. He is easy to talk to. The massage therapist gives deep muscle massage that is great. They take their time with you. I read some of the other reviews and was surprise about others negative experience. Occasionally, I might have to wait a little longer than usual because of so many patients. I also like the hours since I go after work. I would recommend this place to my family and friends.

Rude and unprofessional staff. They called me to cancel my appointment 15 minutes before the appointment, after I had already left work early to make said appointment. Broken scheduling, as I had already confirmed the appointment the previous day. Good thing there are plenty of other chiropractors in midtown.

After a few days or weeks of constant back pain that felt like an old injury flaring up again and just kept getting worse- I looked up what Dr.'s would be open on a holiday weekend with immediate availability that would also be a good location for work/home. I looked MaxHealth up on Yelp before booking my appointment and decided to go ahead after reading generally good reviews.
My first appointment went well, but took almost 2 hours and Dr. Fain seemed to express very little, if any, sympathy about the amount of pain I was in after laying face down for over an hour.
That lack of sympathy and personal attention has continued on to the following visits.
Visit after visit, I continue to get the same advice repeated to me in exactly the same wording. Nothing new, ever and nothing beyond "how are you feeling" to get to know me or what's going on with my body.
I expressed that I do not like manual adjustments, and have had alternative care in the past, which Dr. Fain said she was familiar with, but said she prefers manual adjustments. I feel so stressed and tense when I'm there that I can't even relax enough to get her to do the adjustments comfortably.
FYI... a smile and a little eye contact ever once in a while goes a long way. I'm shocked at all of the positive reviews you have on here and that no one has ever mentioned this before.
I will be canceling all future appointments I have here and have no intention of ever returning.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - cheri b.New York, NY44Sep 2, 2011First to Review
I recommend this place! Dr. Fernandez & Dr. Fain & their staff are great! I appreciate the time & wholistic approach they take to your health. It's not just about what hurts. I also love that each chiro visit also includes a personal massage! Very nice staff, flexible appointment times & central location.

Max Health has been an exceptional source of chiropractic and physical therapy care for me since I began going to them after an accident. After my recovery I have remained with the practice due to their continued tailored care of my various conditions as well as their consistent integrity in the way they manage the practice of the office. Doctors Reif and Fernandez are honest and well trained. I have always been happy with the care I receive and seen results if I do my part.

I went to see Dr. Fain and have to say my experience with her has been amazing! I've injured my back a many times over the last 6 or so years and have seen a few chiropractors, physical therapists and acupuncturists around the city and Dr. Fain was by far my best experience. My most recent injury was this winter from snowboarding. It got so bad that it would take me 4-8 attempts just to roll out of bed! Once I got out of bed, it was a totally different story, I basically was just inching my way around the apartment half bent over. I had to call in sick for 3 days and then finally was able to get up and moving enough to make it to a doctor.
Dr. Fain been so helpful and encouraging the entire time and took a lot of extra time with me the first few sessions. She carefully checked my X-rays and has been teaching me new exercises every time I go. Gloria is great as well! Each time I go, I generally only wait a couple of mins before I'm taken into a room and Gloria is always in right away ready with heat, stim and massage. Dr. Fain will come in right after and carefully review how I've been, if anything has been bothering me, ask me what exercises I've been doing, and stretch/adjust my back. She's always very professional but always personable.
Its also super helpful that she's a great athlete and has done an Iron man! I had just started training for a triathlon with TNT so she's been extremely helpful answering all my newbie questions as well as letting me know how much I can push and when I shouldn't push my back. Thanks to Dr. Fain and Gloria I was able to recover pretty quickly and do my first triathlon! (and then my second!) and the exercises and regular visits/alignments have helped keep me injury free now for the last 6 months! Definitely the longest injury-free period to date. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Fain to anyone and actually already have to some of my triathlete friends! :-)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Benazir A.Manhattan, NY2291Feb 27, 2013
I have a bad lower back, two disc bulges and a protrusion, so I am no stranger to back pain. I've been struggling with it for years. I started going to Dr. Fain recently. She is incredible! She took the time to speak with me about my x-rays, she is ALWAYS on time. The massages I get from Gloria are great, but Dr. Fain's adjustments are unbelievable! Also, the office overall, has a very holistic approach. They really believe in getting their patients to a point where they don't have to rely on regular chiropractic appointments. The staff is also incredibly helpful. I was having trouble getting my MRI results faxed over from my primary care physician and the receptionist was great about following up with me. I also love that they have such a flexible schedule! Highly recommend :)
