Massage Envy - Dobson

Have a back pain? Call massage envy to the rescue. If there isn't one available near you you can always find another one within the valley that might. I got lucky today and booked my appointment 20 minutes prior due to someone's cancellation. The place isn't fancy but it's doable and available. My right back muscles were killing me all day and had to cave in for a massage.

If you have not been to any of the locations you must fill out a form with all the necessary info and areas to work on. If you are a member then you just need to fill out areas to work on.

Karen was my masseuse who was skilled with the 10 rating deep tissue hands. She first asked what needs to be massaged looking at the muscle chart. And used a dry erase board marker to indicate the areas. During the massage she made sure the pressure was deep enough or if it needed to be lightened. She did a really great job in working all the specific areas that was discussed. What a relief! Feel much better! :)

I had schedule a prenatal massage online. I book the appointment and was looking forward to getting an hour of relaxation at 38weeks pregnant. I called the next day to confirm my appointment went through and we were set. Since I never received a confirmation email or txt.
When I called to confirm we were set I got verbal confirmation we were good to go.
On the day of my appointment I receive a call + txt saying they had system error and unfortunately my appointment needed to be reschedule. I was a bit disappointed but understanding and agreed to have my massage reschedule for the following day.

The day of my massage I get a txt + call (30mins before appt) asking if appt was a schedule prenatal massage? I return the call and spoke with reception. I confirm this would be a prenatal massage. She apologizes for the inconvenience but my appt needed to be reschedule again with a different therapist who specializes in prenatal massage. They offered a free add on to re schedule.

At this point I was super bummed and turned off by Massage
Envy. I cancelled the appointment and told them I was no longer interested.

My appt at cancelled twice! Not a good look for business and calling it system error. I won't be doing business with massage envy.

This place is a complete joke. I have been a member off and on for a long time due to the convenience of location and 2 amazing therapists, Angelina and Rosa. Unfortunately Angelina left over a year ago. I am now limited to one great therapist, in my opinion. Unfortunately Rosa had a lapse in her license so I have been canceled 2 times. Today she is back and looking forward to finally seeing her, long awaited 2 months. They call and canceled for an unknown reason. I requested the manager to call me over a month ago still awaiting that phone call. Requested to speak with her today and she apparently is out as well. Ask for an email so I can reach out to corporate and of course that is unavailable as well. This place charges a top dollar and gives the worst customer service ever, I would not recommend this place currently in the process of canceling but unfortunately you only have a limited time to use your credits and with the limited therapist I feel like I am locked in with them unless I am open to losing money. This place is a complete joke, zero customer service, and unable to speak with anyone of authority, also, the facility is falling apart hooks on the wall, missing dirty furniture, dirty carpet, and raise your prices annually yet do not upkeep the facilities. I'm glad they have finally chased me out . again, the only reason I was staying is for Rosa and the convenience of location at this point with Rosa gone no need to continue this path Do yourself a favor and save your money.

I submitted my concerns through the link provided, and actually called the franchise to speak with the manager. I was told she would call me back in 10 minutes. Never received a call back. I have one credit remaining from a membership I cancelled due to all this hassle from reception teams at this location, and at the Tempe Marketplace location. Consistently not booking appointments when they say it has been booked, cancelling appointments, and moving me to different therapists. Really terrible business practices and horrible customer service.

This is by far the worst massage envy on earth. Whoever is in charge of massage envy should NEVER let this place represent massage envy.

They have NO CLUE what they are doing!

My wife booked a couples massage in 2 rooms for me for my birthday. They call a couple days before and say that my wife's Massage therapist has been changed.

Then they call the day before and say it's "not going to be available anymore".

Plans ruined. Ask for the owner to call. Didn't happen.

Worst customer service experience ever.

Customer of Massage Envy for 10+ years. I decided to cancel my membership on August 24, 2023. due to my home location (Tempe) not having therapists available to do deep tissue work. I've even attempted to book at their various locations across the valley. It's usually hit or miss. Plus usually after finding someone that knows what they are doing, they end up leaving the company or reducing their hours. At the time of cancellation, I had 2-hours worth of time on my account. On September 11, I got lucky to book a 90-minute session with Aiden at the Dobson (Mesa) location. I've seen him several times and was super excited to have him as my last therapist. He's amazing at what he does. After my session, I mentioned to the Teia, the front desk person, that it was my last session and mentioned that I had 30 minutes left. She stated that if I wanted to, I could book an hour stretching session, use my remaining 30 minutes and pay the difference which would have been $34.00 bucks. Fast forward to today, September 18. After my session I was presented with a bill for $125.00 instead! Teia, same person from last week, mentioned they had issues pulling up my account and wouldn't be able to apply the credit or give me the rate that was promised. She also stated that for me to be able to use my time, I'd have to sign up again. Wait...what?!?! The cancellation form mentioned that I had at least 30-60 days to use any remaining sessions in my account, so I know that was a total lie. She also stated that this has happened to other customers when they cancelled their accounts. Why wasn't I informed of this before my session? I received two calls from them earlier today. The first one wanted to know if I wanted to come in at 3:00 instead of 3:30pm. The other one asked if I wanted to 30-minute stretch session followed by an hour massage. I answered the second call and told them I wanted to keep the appointment I already had with no changes. Had I known I was going to be stiffed with a $125.00 "non-member" bill, I wouldn't have booked the session.

I'm glad that I will no longer have to waste my money on a company that offers limited modalities for being such a big chain. I was able to find a massage therapist that has a wider range of availability and provides the services I need (deep tissue, cupping, ART, percussion) without all of the added fluff and at a reasonable price.

Side note: The girl at the front desk asked if I was going to leave today's therapist a tip... I really had to bite my tongue.

Another note: John Swann was the best massage therapist at Tempe.

I decided to try Massage Envy after receiving a gift card from my company. First, the bright spots: The receptionist was kind and helpful and the office seemed clean and well cared for. Unfortunately, my experience with my massage therapist, Chenise, was very poor. She was unfriendly--not smiling or making any conversation and asking her pre-massage questions in a curt, almost angry, tone. My answers were met with stone-faced silence, eye rolls/sighs, and argument. When, early in the massage, I politely mentioned that something felt uncomfortable, she snapped at me, saying the massage would be done in her way and she didn't care how I felt about it. I laid there stunned for a couple of minutes before (sadly, since I needed a massage) ending the session early and leaving. On the plus side, the receptionist was understanding and offered me a refund.

The front desk was very nice at this location, my therapist was AMAZING, I don't wanna say her name cuz I want to be able to book with her anytime I want but I will, Chenise you are wonderful! The beds at this location even seemed more comfortable than any of the other ones I've been to in the area. Thank you for working on me today and eventually I'll learn how to relax.

Ya know the phrase from Tyra Banks saying if she could give someone a zero she would but it's not possible so she gives them a one? Yea well, if I could, I would give this place a zero, but a one star is the lowest I could go on here. I don't know if it's because I was a gift card holder and not a member holder or I came in dressed in sweats not looking I had any money, but I had the worst massage ever from this place by a therapist named Becky. Maybe she was having an off night but she didn't massage my areas that I indicated to her on the iPad forms more then three times. She kept pinching my skin, she was all over the place, she would start at my shoulders then massage my tricep then my armpit then go back to my shoulders and again, wasn't even massaging....just pinching between her fingers. She kept going to my arms which I did not tell her I wanted massaged. I had to redirect her three or four times back to my scapula since it was hurting me the most. I asked for her to focus on my back, which she only massaged twice. The entire hour long experience was dedicated ti my arms and, at one point, she pushed my head harder and harder into the head rest. I didn't get any of my knots worked out since they were in my back and she didn't even bother to massage them. She said she had been doing this for 21 years, but honestly I felt like she had been doing this for 21 minutes. I felt like the old man dad of the hot girl that came to Ross's apartment and he lied saying he knew how to massage thinking he would massage the hot girl, not her dad. Even rolling tonal trucks up and down my back would have gotten more knots out than being rubbed by Becky. To top it off, at the end she asked if I had any questions to which I replied no, and she snapped back at me with "oh that's right because you started off with all the answers already." Excuse me?? I didn't even talk during the fake massage she gave me. I left with more knots and more stress in my shoulders. Definitely not worth the 65 dollars my poor mom paid for in a gift card. Remind me to go to my local massage school if I ever want an actual real massage.

I signed up for a 6 month membership. Every month is a constant battle against overcharges. They always have a new excuse. After 6 months I was still being charged. I was told the charge could not be refunded and I would need to use or forfit the prepaid massage. I scheduled a massage to use the credit on my account. Massage was interrupted. I was told it was refunded back to my account and I would need to use it within 10 days since I had already signed cancellation paperwork at today's check in. I rescheduled in 3 days. Was then told I would have to pay for the massage because they had refunded the prepaid massage to my credit card and the credit was no longer on my account. WTF. I thought you said you had no way to do this? I said I did not authorize a charge to my credit card and I see there is a charge pending to the card they require to be on file. Total scammers. The front desk is completely incompetent, messes up my transaction every time, then lies to her manager about what she said. Massages are nice but the constant hassle and headaches that come along with the membership make it completely unworth it and ruins the experience.
