Went to Mary's in new castle. Literally best meal I've had here. In new castle I mean. It wasn't so-much the ingredients, they just nailed the execution.
I got the lamb combo. I don't hate kibee, but I've never liked it. It makes a #### is all I could say for it. This is the fried kibee with bulgur wheat and meat shell, filled with more meat and wheat. Usually bland and overcooked. I like raw kibee, which is usually chopped beef when you eat out in new castle. But that stuff that's deep fried to briquet consistency? Mary's just nailed it. Cooked so the inside was hot and moist, shell wasn't a deep fried rock. Lamb and grape leaves as well. I like Little Damascus more, but this was pretty freaking good. The lamb was perfect. Perfectly medium rare, lightly seasoned, and had that grilled taste. Because it was actually grilled. Wife got lamb on the rod with rice. Delicious fluffy beautifully seasoned rice. And all the usual sides everyone gets at practically every restaurant and bar when you get lamb in new castle. Peppers in oil, hummus, a garlic sauce that will make you everyone's favorite person, and Syrian bread. Did I mention the name of the place is Mary's Restaurant and Bakery? I think. Mary's and Bakery are in the name for sure. They got great Syrian bread. And I don't like Syrian bread. (I'm a riddle wrapped in an enigma) Mary's was already my favorite place in new castle, which is saying something because I like a few places here. But where they beat every other place, and I mean anywhere, is the wait staff. They are always well staffed. And the staff are just great. They really do like their job, and the customers. Conversation, never rushed. Just they just take a genuine interest. Which is good for me because the wife likes to talk while I'm eating. Oh that was a joke, I was kidding. Seriously though. The servers and staff are just nice to be around. From the moment you walk in the door to when you leave.
Adding todays pics to a previous review. Yes, I like the place. For a reason. And that reason is food, service, setting (beautiful inside, and pretty cool out as well) and another place that is consistently excellent.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 12, 2022Previous reviewThis was amazingly good. Like 3pm on Saturday. Just a few tables, but how good? Phone was ringing off the hook. I got chicken platter, wife got gyro. The peppers and oil great. The garlic sauce great. Humus great. Ok, just great all around!

Food is pretty good, a bit on the salty side for our taste. The dishes were simple and enjoyable, but it lacks a WOW factor. We enjoyed the lamb over rice, chicken over rice, babaganosh, and falafels. Food is really between 3-3.5 stars, but the service pushed it to 4 stars. The wait staff are very welcoming and personable. It was a pleasant dining experience.

The food is always in point. The service is always very friendly and helpful. The hot tea is the best drink on their menu (next to the standard offerings). The chicken on the rod and lamb on the rod are both delicious. The Syrian bread is really good. Love Mary's.

I've been to Mary's several times over the years. Returned in September 2022 to have stuffed grape leaves, grilled lamb, rice, Kibbee and Tabouli. Everything was so fresh and tasty. The kids enjoyed the Kibbee and rice the best. Our service was wonderful, with multiple waitresses checking on us several times. We stayed for dessert and enjoyed the baklava and maamoul with hot tea.
You'll have to ask for the pita bread if you prefer it over the white bread rolls they automatically bring, but both were good.
We really liked the outdoor patio - the owner appears to like growing fig trees and grape vines. The kids enjoyed all the plants!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
