Love this Farmers Market. Just visiting Montreal & a friend recommended this spot & it sure did not dissapoint.

Lots of exciting stalls that sells specialty goods & fresh produce. They also have restaurants & places to seat to have your meal. We bought some veggies, had the freshest fish & chips, delicious poutine & taste tested wines & cheeses.

Enjoyed our experience here, if you are a foodie this place is a must when visiting Montreal.

I dream marche jean talon, it reminds me of when I was living in São Paulo the Mercado municipal. Huge market full of many fruits and vegetable stands! With many exotic selection!

I purchased some fresh Quebec garlic. And got cappuccino and pastel de natal.

Also there is an amazing Crêperie spot that is a must-go!

      Love Marché jean talon!

Jean-Talon Market in Montreal, Canada. Have you ever been to @marchejeantalon? Opened in 1933, it's the largest outdoor market in North America opened year round! Definitely one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Montreal! Insta: @thehungrysw

As a child my grandmother sometimes took me to the old LA Farmer's Market, the closest California comparison I can make to Montreal's Marché Jean-Talon.

Partly covered to shield it from sun, but basically 100% open-air, Marché Jean-Talon features the same array of fresh fruits, vegetables, and food prepared to order as the LA Farmer's Market once did. It has an age-old feel - why mess with perfection - but some of the offerings (e.g. oyster bar, smoothie stand) are definitely for the times we're in. Still this place hasn't gentrified in any recognizable way; it feels authentic, a place from which the neighborhood actually purchases their fresh produce.

Because I was a tourist and not one stocking my larder, I mostly came here to see the place and to eat. I enjoyed fresh fried seafood, a gourmet corn dog, and a smoothie amongst other offerings, made all the better by consuming my selections at a wooden picnic table in the thick of Marché Jean-Talon foot-traffic.

It's not every day that one gets the opportunity to step back in time and enjoy an authentic outdoor market that's been thriving, in one form or another, since 1933. A visit to Marché Jean-Talon is both low-key and a very pleasant experience.

Beautiful market with plenty of shops to feed any craving you might have. Produce as well as cured meats, cheeses, pastries, flowers and more are all conveniently located within. When in Canada you gotta try the maple and butter tarts of course.

You should come here just for the melt-in-your-mouth date square and desserts alone at La Fournee des Sucreries de'lerable. It was incredible!

The market itself is large, but I believe it has too many fruit/vegetable stands. Many stands sell the same exact products and they could use the space for more specialty shops like they have on the outer edges of the market.

Although the produce at these stands looked very fresh. The market wasn't too crowded and was easy to see all the stands.

      Pros:
      Large market with covered stalls
Wonderful selection of vendors with everything from baked goods, frozen seafood, and produce galore
      Most take credit card

      Cons:
Lots of produce redundancy, but this is to be expected
Signage could be better, especially for the nearby restaurants

      Pro tip:
Parking garage is adjoined, so save yourself some time and aggravation and park there

Definitely the best farmers market on the island. The parking garage (basement) was easy to access and wasn't too expensive.
The produce selection was amazing and there were so many souvenirs and pastries I wanted to try!!
Vendors were really pleasant, just don't forget to bring your own bags to put all your purchases in!!
I would be here every week if I could, just to try items from all the vendors! There's restaurants nearby as well, to grab a bite to eat when you're done shopping.

The Jean-Talon market is a great destination for out-of-towners and I am sure it is great for locals as well. I loved this indoor/outdoor market. We came to roam a bit ahead of lunch and eventually grab lunch. We ended up grabbing lunch, dessert, and a handful of fruit snacks for later in our trip. There are a ton of vendors offering fresh produce and a good handful also offering meals or mini-bites. Keep in mind while a few take credit, there are many that are cash only (and prefer Canadian dollars). There are ATMs on site.

Covered open air market with a variety of fresh and local foods. A nice and friendly place for a stroll to stock up on local produce, cheeses, cured meats and also grab some great bites of fresh oysters, crêpes, coffee and even interestingly seasoned roasted nuts. We went on a hot summer day but had a nice break from the sun here as it was covered and they have fans going. You also get to sample super fresh fruit. Nice time for the family.
