Yet another name for this joint.
I ordered scrambled eggs, american fries and sour dough toast. The eggs were very good as were the american fries. The sour dough toast was excellent, I love when places have mixed fruit jelly. The people I was with both ordered omelettes with whole wheat toast. The omelettes were both deemed excellent. 1 of the toasts had to be sent back due to barely being toasted. That being said borh thought toast was very good.
The service was a little slow but friendly.
Overall a solid 4 stars. We will be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 6, 2015Previous reviewThe ambiance is actually quite fresh. Especially for Up North. Very clean and bright.
There was 3 of us for the meal. 2 had eggs over easy and wheat toast. I had a chicken salad sandwich with bacon on it served with tator tots. The ladies thought their eggs and toast were very good. As to my chicken salad? In one word Lame! It had very little taste to it. The taste of the bun even overpowered it. If not for the bacon all would have been lost. As for the tator tots they were both very good and nothing special.
Our history at this location is complicated: the original Mrs Pete's was a solid 5 star restaurant. Then she retired/died and the place closed for a short period of time. It reopened with new owners and changed names to Bellaire Cafe. Dropping immediately to a flat 1 star. Then over the years since it changed hands again, I believe, and returned to the original name. It got better now a 2 star. Over the last 5+ years we haven't gone back. Finally we did and it's up to 3 1/2 stars. However I can't leave a 1/2 star so this review ends with 3 stars. Not a bad choice, just not a great one. - Sail M.Central Lake, MI1269Aug 6, 2016
Apparently the cook can't distinguish between a sub and a wrap. I ordered a sub, had to wait longer while they fixed it.
And the pickle that came with it is a shaved slice, to cheap to even give you a spear.
At least once they fixed my sub, it was good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sara B.Kansas City, MO208101Sep 1, 2018
Tried to find a good breakfast place near Clam Lake. We decided to venture over here. We liked it a lot! Coffee had an oaky tase but besides that the Eggs Benedict and Pride Omelette were really good. Get hash browns too extra crispy! Overall we were happy with our decision to go to Mama's Country Kitchen.

I gave this 4 stars because sometimes I happen to know they are not that friendly to folks who do not look like locals.
BUT, it's worth going there for the outstanding down-home food. I absolutely love their breakfasts which you can have any time of day. The biscuits and gravy are to die for. OMG.. closest to what I grew up with in Alabama that I've ever found outside that state. Yes, yes, I could cook the eggs myself and yes yes, it's small for the number of people they are seating but it's a folksy and good solid food.
I always have breakfast but others have had meals which were as described above.. basically hearty middle america food.
Often, really often there are locals... farmers and workers who are a delight for me. I live half the year in LA... so what a relief to see 'real' people with real problems having real conversations.
Give it a try.. at least for breakfast. It's good.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessie G.Trenton, MI1278Aug 14, 2016
Yuck! Our waitress didn't come for about 10 mins after we sat down. I actually had to get up and ask someone to come by.
My omelette was awful! The mushrooms were rancid and had that fishy smell to them, the hash browns weren't even browned, and my toast was just buttered bread. I couldn't even eat it. Save your money.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Liz M.Clio, MI232131Jul 1, 2018
Service was insanely slow. There was one waitress who was literally doing EVERYTHING. Felt bad for the poor lady. Restaurant should be prepared for high volume of customers on 4th of July weekend. Wouldn't recommend unless you have a lot of time to kill.

We had a light breakfast yesterday, pancakes eggs and sausage. Good stuff.
We just had a great lunch here. My daughter got Chicken sandwich and my wife got a great chicken salad sandwich. I got loaded potato soups and a steak sandwich.
All very good. We had great service. Even the owner came out and checked on us.
Way better than a chain or fast food. And worth the stop.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jim H.Denver, CO02Jun 2, 2013
I've been going here for breakfast with many different friends from Grand Rapids for years, everyone likes it. The price is right for the breakfasts are large.
I do believe Nicole from NYC finds things to complain about wherever she goes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tricia C.Chicago, IL3103Dec 28, 2018
We had breakfast/lunch here this morning. Delicious. The hash browns were the best I have ever had - light and crispy. My son's chicken tenders were homemade. I want to go back tomorrow before we head back home to Chicago! The waitress got slammed shortly after we walked in, but handled herself well.
