The recent renovation by Robert Trent Jones Jr. features the introduction of Seashore Paspalum turf grass on to all fairways and greens, providing spectacular playing surfaces for golfers of all skill levels. Additional improvements include the re-configuring greens complexes and green surrounds, as well as bold reshaping of all bunkers. The signature 7th hole on the Makai Course plays to 213 yards from the back tees. It consists of a challenging tee shot over scenic cliffs, onto to a green which is surrounded by brilliant white bunkers and surreal views of the mountains and Pacific Ocean.

Excellent views, great price and Andrew was knowledgeable and fun. Great for the whole family, littles to elderly and excellent for anyone with mobility issues.

If you're a golfer there's no reason not to check this golf club out. Their course is beautiful, they have very friendly and helpful staff, and provide quality rental equipment (Callaway.)
If you're NOT a golfer, there's still a reason to come visit. Check out their Sunset Tour. It's fun to take the golf carts out and see their beautiful course and end the night on their beautiful seventh hole to watch the sunset. Makai is definitely worth the visit whether you're a golfer or not.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Soqrman S.Reno, NV1216Mar 30, 2024
Where to start? Booked months in advance and they didn't have us booked after we confirmed. Pushed us back 20 mins, so decided to grab a snack. Whoops!!! Place has limited offerings and slow is being polite. Okay, let's check in with the starter who says,"you're on!" He then starts a single immediately behind us, who we let pass on the 2nd T box. Then he starts the men's club less than 10 minutes behind the single and the men's club player says they do a shot gun start???? We are playing within time and then we get called out on hole 13 for being 10 mins behind play. The starter clearly messed up the start times. The cart person was the only upside, but don't waste your money at this place. The other places we played were phenomenal!!!!!

I made reservations months in advance, I was very excited to return to this sunset tour to show my cousin how beautiful it was...upon arriving, we were told we were the only ones signed up, so they cancelled it...they claimed they called, yet i had no missed calls, no messages and no email! Needless to say, we were very disappointed and they definitely lost me as a customer who has enjoyed taking friends and family on the tour! I will definitely pass on this in the future! We planned our whole day around going to this and made dinner reservations for after the tour in Kiloea, so it definitely screwed up our whole afternoon and evening!!!

The sunset golf tour is a must do! Led by Andrew who is entertaining and very knowledgeable. Exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend. Leave yourself enough time to stop at Makai Grill for drinks and food before the tour.

Don't let the opportunity to play this course pass you bye, life is short and this course is amazing. The course plays tough but the views are jaw dropping. I can't wait to go back someday and play again.

The rental set of clubs are very outdated only reason I took off one star. But the course is well maintained and has a few really scenic holes. The course is fun not very hard at all but still it great activity to do with the family.

Great place for a wedding on hole 7. Beautiful views! Riding on a golf course from the clubhouse to the wedding was a great way to start the celebration!

The golf course is scenic and in good condition. However, good golfers need to be aware that this is the fourth best course on the island and worst course for service and attitude. If you plan on staying and playing in Kauai, don't waste money here. The service, course, and amenities at Poipu Bay, the Ocean Course, and Waimea are three steps above Princeville. While Princeville features four very good ocean holes, the rest of the course is very average. Alternatively, Poipu Bay and the others listed above, feature amazing views throughout the entire course you will remember for a lifetime.

Oct 19, 2022Previous reviewAll travelers. Yes, the course has four stunning holes. Yet, Quite frankly, I would never play here again. The starters are rude and in no way accommodating. The pace of play can be brutal and the food at the golf cafe is average at best. What makes it unbearable is that tee times are made through a group out of Chicago who seem to know very little about what is happening at the course. Finally, the price is steep and could possibly be worth it if the amenities were better and the staff accommodating. Do yourself a favor and play Poipu or the famous local public course. Great tracks! Stunning ocean views.
