Macayo's Mexican Food

My waiter was awesome and my food was.delicious i.got.chicken fajita tacos. Mmmm love it

First time to Macayo's in five years. We arrived at1 PM on a Saturday afternoon and it was about 1/4 full. Our server, Jose, greeted us quickly and took our drink order. My wife got two tacos with a side of calabacitas and a margarita while I ordered the Chile Relleno trio and an iced tea, since I was driving. In all, it came to $50.03 plus tip. I seemed to recall the menu having more variety than today, but I was happy with that. I think a restaurant should focus on making fewer dishes but with higher quality. Macayo's did just that.

Jose returned with chips and salsa, which we ate with abandon. Our meal arrived about 12 min later on piping hot plates.

My rellenos were stuffed full of cheese, pork and chicken, respectively. I had to bring the chicken one home, due to the chips, as usual. The plate also included heaping portions of Mexican rice and savory black beans. Both were outstanding.

I must say, my cheese relleno was the one I was least looking forward to but it was outstanding. The sauce and cheese were perfectly paired.

I will not be waiting five more years until my next visit. Macayo's was killer today.

Thursday evening around 730pm, we walk in and it's like a ghost town. Maybe two parties towards the left, in the back are eating. I see no hostess. No workers.

After about a good 5 minute wait, maybe more because we were contemplating leaving, someone from the back kitchen area comes rushing out. "For two? Bar ok?"
Sure....


We sit down, get chips and our sodas quickly.
The chips were disgusting because they tasted burnt. But we all know if you don't change the oil, your chips will be burnt.

We order our food. 3 chicken tacos and a chicken quesadilla that came with a side of beans and rice.

About 15 mins later our food comes out.
The beans and rice are STONE COLD, the chicken quesadilla is floating in OIL. And I don't mean oil from the cheese, it was wet and glistening from all the oil they cooked the tortilla in. I had to use a napkin to blot the excessive off. Photos below are from napkin 3-4, so can you imagine what the first couple napkins looked like?
I didn't send it back because I don't trust what they'd do back there knowing I wasn't happy.

Suggestion to the restaurant:
if you don't want to be open late, close. I literally feel like you took my hard earned money and what I got was worse than Taco Bell. That is not an exaggeration either.

Do better or again, change your hours and close up shop. No one should have to try to eat that food.

Really good meal here on a fairly quiet Friday night at this location. The guava colada was a great drink, very thick and refreshing. My main course was a delicious chicken fajita quesadilla with onions and peppers inside and some great guac on the side. Very satisfying meal.

I go to Macayo's as often as I can. Almost every other special occasions are spent there. If friends or family come to visit we go there. We are never disappointed always good food good vibrations great service. I'll be seeing you all real soon again.

We came here for happy hour and as long as you seat in the bar area you get happy hour prices. I was very impressed with how much food you get for the value.

You get unlimited free chips and salsa and a free cheese crisp with your yelp check in.

I ordered their beef mini chimichanga's - 6 mini chimichanga's with guacamole and sour cream. I tried their signature salsa on my mini chimichanga's and they're so good.
Great beer selection on draft, I got a blue moon on draft for only $4

Tried micaiah's out again for their something number anniversary . This took place this past Wednesday where they offered 77 cent crispy tacos which were delicious. I ordered two shredded chicken and two of the shredded beef. The promotion was for crispy tacos, with the option of shredded beef shredded chicken, and I believe pork. The the shredded chicken tacos were very full flavor versus the shredded beef tacos lacked flavor. anyone who's trying macayo's for the first time or trying their tacos for the first time. That is what I would recommend the shredded chicken tacos over the shredded beef tacos.
I sat at the bar, the service from the server at the bar was great. He was very attentive and was very friendly. The Ambiance was busy at the time of day that I went. Then again it could have been because of the special that they were running, but it is also family style. Style so there's a separate area for those that do not want to sit in the bar area.

Been to a lot of Mexican Food restaurants, and this I have never had a taco or a tostada crack and fall apart. Never had a bad service the wait staff are always pleasant, roomed and knowledgeable about the menu. Een with the wood floor, the noise level is not to high, which is great. Yes they do have an outside seating area, I have not brought my dog to it yet.

This place is great for groups of all sizes.

The food was actually pretty good (I ordered the steak fajita quesadilla). The service was bad. We ordered drinks and it took 10 mins to even get our drinks. By the time we got our drinks the food was out 1 minute later. Xane was a disgrace as a waiter. Would not visit again, and I'm mad at myself for even suggesting to go here. As for ambiance, the lady next to us couldn't stop staring, her husband must have been boring. Also, a chair broke for a different customer, not very hospitable.

I used to go to Macayo's in Tucson growing up all of the time. I moved to Denver and heard that they had closed so I figured I would never be able to eat there again. I was wrong! I had no idea they had locations in Phoenix so I was surprised when I looked up Mexican food places while visiting I was shocked to see there was one down the street from where we were staying. We stopped in for dinner and they were pretty busy but the bar was open.

We sat at the bar and ordered margaritas. The bartender was friendly and kind of busy with the few people sat at the bar and making drinks for the restaurant. She took a bit to take our order, but you could tell that she was dealing with stuff. We ordered our food and enjoyed the delicious chips and salsa. I love their salsa.

Our food arrived piping hot, but one of my sides was incorrect. They quickly brought out the correct side and I ended up getting more food than I ordered. Oh well, breakfast for the next day. Everything we had was delicious. My husband got his tamales smothered in baja sauce and fell in love with it. I miss this place and wish I could stop in more often. I feel like they are a good Arizona staple.

We had a large group of 9 that went on a Monday night. They weren't terribly busy, yet it took them 40 minutes to get our food out to us.

I had the steak fajitas which were good, I wouldn't complain if they had come out on time.
