I used to love Los Amigos Grill when it was named El Cuzcatleco. The owner was an older gentleman who always greeted you as you walked in, would walk around and supervise his waiters and waitresses. He would come around and ask if you had gotten your food or needed anything. After that, things just went down. The waitresses seem to be in their own little world. For example one time I had a Specialicious and the waitress wrote down the tip. From what I know, most restaurants will tell you on the menu if that is what they do. Another thing, her tip ended up being lower than what we were going to give her. The food is pretty good, but service is just not there. I've had a lot of restaurants who have great food, but when their service goes down, I find another place to get my cravings.

I want to like this place, but I can't. I have been here three times now, so I feel I can make an informed decision. I am also a displaced Texan, so I am desparate for decent food from south of the border, but also know what it should taste like.
Los Amigos is average at best. The good things are: chips are hot and the salsa very good, they have Pacifico, the carne asada beef they use in various dishes is tasty. However, the rest of the dishes are bland. The ranchero sauce tastes like it is out of a can, the guacamole was brownish, and the pork was dry.
Bottom Line: If you are looking for something good, go elsewhere. Where that other place is.....I have yet to find in northern Virginia.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joseph O.Fredericksburg, VA410624Sep 8, 2013
The food was so so. The waitress was also bartender. She has her kid with her at work. She ran our card 3 times. The machine has communication errors and she ran it again.
The michelada was pretty good and spicy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Margarita M.MD, MD603711Jun 19, 2012
It was nice knowing you Amigos. My husband and his cousin used to love this place when it used to have a different ownership and name. Supposedly it was amazing then. It has since changed owners. We have gone 4 times and I have finally put my foot down. I will never ever walk into this establishment again.
Service is poor, the waitresses are just rude and don't give a crap. I never understood why white patrons get more attention than ethnic patrons. I would think as a Latina I would have a fighting chance for attention, no luck. I guess they want to keep them as patrons but not myself? Even though every time I go, I go with 3 hungry males who are ready to chow down on appetizers, drinks, and big freaking entrees? Make no dang sense.
Food takes FOREVER. Things are usually wrong. If you ask, they act surprised and then finally decide to let you know that an item is out. Really? You couldn't tell me that 30-45 minutes ago when I ordered?
The last time was the final straw. We waited an hour, no exaggeration. We were only given drinks. I was actually surprised how quickly the drinks arrived and commented on the difference. I must have jinxed it. We got a second round of drinks. We were never told that something was going on that there was a difficulty. The waitress just ignored us but one guy came by and asked us if we needed anything, we asked for more chips and salsa. After the hour came up, my husband's patience was done. He wanted so much for this place to be as great as before. We left 10 bucks and rolled out. As we were pulling out the guy from the restaurant stopped us and begged us to come back in. He said he had just bought this place 2 days ago. That the food would be free. We only had come because we still needed to use the Specialicious, I didn't want to come back after the last time. We said we're sorry but we're done with this place.
Why didn't we go back? Free food right? Well, we didn't need free food, we were able and willing to pay. The waitress is the same from the previous owner so there was doubt about the fact that now it's on it's 3rd owner in less than a couple of months. When food is free, if it's wrong, you can't really say much can you? Also, it was lack of common courtesy. Why didn't anyone tell us they were struggling, that it was under new management, that they had a new cook blah blah blah. But the table with the white guys were being explained at length what was going on and the rest of us were sitting around looking stupid. There were only 5 tables waiting when I was there. Really?
Sorry Amigos, it was nice knowing you.
The food wasn't even all that even when we did get to eat previous times. Fake seasonings, fake loroco (sp?), it's just.....save your money y'all.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katrina B.Fairfax, VA4110889May 30, 2010First to Review
This place rocks! My boyfriend and I went here last friday and we really enjoyed our food. He got the huevos ranchero, which were very flavorful and I got the pollo monterey. MMM! It was very tasty! My meal was a sliced chicken breast with zucchini and a very flavorful sauce. It also came with a fresh salad with tomatoes and feta cheese. Both of our meals came with black beans. They lacked flavor and we didn't care for them. The complimentary chips and salsa were okay. The salsa was too watery but it had an ok flavor. I had a strawberry margarita that was very good. Our major disappointment was that they were out of all of the desserts. But, I will definitely be going back there soon!

I'm all about supporting local restaurants. This place wasn't anything to write home about. The service was slow, and the food was so so. Very bland dishes and the decor was dark and drab. Hopefully things have/will change for the better.

Good Food; Slow Service; Funky Atmosphere, not so much in a good way; very Dark; Feels like a nightclub instead of a place to eat with family; service lacking; waitress very unresponsive; silverware delivered several minutes after food; Good food, but service and atmosphere almost cancel that out

Los Amigos is really good. I like the food though my husband thinks it's a bit bland. I always get the shrimp quesadilla, which is DELICIOUS! We decided to try this place, kind of hidden back behind BWW, and I was glad we did. It is fairly average for Mexican food. Their chips are always fresh and my husband really liked the carne asada, which to get him to say he likes Carne Asada anywhere East of the MS, is quite a task...

I got the Pollo Monterey as suggested by my waitress and it was absolutely fantastic! The sauce was so creamy and delcious and the chicken was grilled to perfection. The dish was huge, it came with two huge chicken breasts. The dish did come with a pointless "salad" that was just wet lettuce but the rest of the dish definitely made up for it. Very satisfied!
