When it comes to Mexican Food my palate is quite exact and with Lola's I've never been let down.
Lola's offers enough variety without losing track of their strong suites. They're most known for their Carne Asada Burritos. Their carne asada is simply delicious. The secret is their Salsa Verde which is out of this world.
Everything, from the tortillas to the beans, is made in-house and they all have a distinct style and taste. Part of the genius of this establishment is that they do things their own way: simple but well. For instance, their tortillas are hand-made. They are thicker than average and have so much flavor for something made out of such basic ingredients as flour, water, and presumably lard.
The only complaint I've heard about Lola's is that their chicken has been bad. I've not experienced this, but enough friends have reported it that I tend to stay away from it.
If you don't want to be a noob here's some insider info:
Dining-in gets you one free order of chips and salsa. It's worth it.
You can order by phone ahead of time for dine in or take out.
They serve sodas bottled in Mexico which are delicious.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - May 19, 2013
Lola's was the place I checked out on Yelp before even moving here.
Supposed to be the best restaurant in Apple Valley and i would have come here much sooner had I really checked if it was open/
It seems closed and run down in a tiny strip mall behind a gas station, finally I bothered to look and sure enough i was open.
The girls working are nice, its clean, the free chips and salsa are good.
I had fajitas and they were good but not all that.
The man wasn't too hungry and got 2 tacos with 3 different meats, said they all weren't special.
Prices are fair but not the best in the area.
They sell freshmade tortillas $4 for a 10 pack so we got some to take home as well.
They tasted almost sweet like cinnamon or something, totally not what I expected.
Not bad in any way but did not meet my expectations at all, don't think I'd bother to go back again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1244612Oct 8, 2016
I really don't think this place is good at all. Service is horrible, cashier is rude and food not worth a dime. We had the cheese enchiladas and my husband's says its canned salsa, and tortilla was a little funky. Beans and rice were very bland. And the chorizo burrito was not really great.
This is a bust!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Vi S.Apple Valley, CA395174Apr 7, 2016
After 5 years of living close to Lola's, I finally stopped by tonight. I ordered the Tuesday special, hard tacos for 99cents and an order of Pueblo Nachos (Nachos Supreme) to go. I did not expect to wait 30+ min. It seems they get a lot of phone orders. The food was good and inexpensive. Next time I will phone order ahead.

While I love Lola's homestyle Mexican food, I simply cannot overlook the service we received last Thursday, when we came here for lunch.
We waited a good 10 min. at the counter for someone to take our order. And there was no one ahead of us. We ordered potato tacos, flautas, a side of refried beans, and my friend ordered a diet Pepsi. The lady taking our order had difficulty understanding us (I don't think she spoke much English). I had to repeat the order at least five times. Then she had trouble totaling the order. Finally, another lady came over to assist. We paid for our order and sat down. They brought out the order, and we received beef tacos and the flautas. My friend received a Dr. Pepper! We went back to the counter and told them of the error, which they corrected. But then they forgot our cup of refried beans, so we had to go back to the counter.
All the while enjoying the food, I couldn't help but notice how COLD the dining area was....and it was a very cold day in the high desert. It's kind of hard to enjoy your food when you're freezing.
My suggestions to Lola's are as follows:
1. Hire more help, especially at peak times. And please have someone at the counter who speaks and understands English.
2. When it's 40 degrees outside, please turn on the heater in the restaurant. Likewise, when it's 100 degrees outside, please turn on the air conditioning.
Does the food make up for the service? I'll have to think about that.
P.S. Your salsa would be so much better if you didn't water it down.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Aug 21, 2010Previous reviewCame here today for the first time - if you don't know exactly where it's located, you may have a hard time finding it because you can't see it from the road - it's hidden behind a gas station.
The inside is quite large. I knew that I was going to be in for a treat when I came in, because there was a group of Mexican men speaking Spanish at one of the tables - this is the real deal Mexican food.
I decided on a bean and cheese burrito - and what a steal at $3.50. This thing is HUGE. I couldn't eat it all. The refried beans are the bomb...fried in lard just how I like them. The flour tortilla tastes homemade (see pics).
If you eat inside, you get one complimentary bowl of chips & salsa. The chips are quite thick but tasty, but the salsa was a bit on the watery side. They serve fountain drinks, or if you're in the mood, Coca-Cola and Pepsi (from Mexico--sans corn syrup) in bottles.
As I ate my delicious burrito, I glanced at the varied menu on the wall - they have everything here...chili rellenos, chimichangas, carne asada.. you name it. Even breakfast burritos with egg, potatoes and chorizo.
I would advise to bring cash - although they do have an ATM machine that charges you $1.50. I'll be back. - Alex D.Highland, CA04Feb 19, 2016
Great authentic Mexican food!! The Carnitas nachos are to die for, burritos are just delicious. Tortillas are amazing, especially in the carne asada or carnitas quesadilla. I have been a loyal customer for years. Shout out to victor, he is awesome.
Please stop by next time you are in the area, you will not be disappointed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Regina A.Riverside County, CA1882311478Oct 7, 2015
Great place to stop in for authentic Mexican food. I've had several different dishes and they are just like my mom use to make, delicious. Lola's is a very casual, come as you are kind of place. You order up at the counter then they bring your food to you. It is a family run business and the prices are very reasonable. I love that you can go in eat drink and be merry and they never seem to rush you out. This place is located pretty far east on Bear Valley, closer to Apple Valley. If you are ever in the area. it's a must stop in. This place get's my 5 stars, it is what it is and great at it!

Just had Lola's again tonight. What was I thinking giving it only 4 stars.
I had the best Chicken Chimichunga Combo ever! Yeah. It's definitely 5 stars.
I probably was taking off a star for the cash only thing. But even paying $1.50 for their funky cash machine is worth it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Dec 19, 2010Previous reviewThis is our "go to" Mexican restaurant. The menu is next to the land line phone at the house.
Good food. Good prices.
Family owned. Authentic food. We have gone in to eat there, but usually call ahead and go into to pick up the order. - Judy C.Salt Lake City, UT73230Aug 18, 2010Updated review
Just had an egg/bean/cheese/potato breakfast burrito today at Lola's and it was awesome (and huge - saved the other half for tomorrow!)
I have to say again that their flour tortillas are so yummy. On Monday and Wednesday they have a few items for 99 cents like cheese enchiladas, tacos, and bean and cheese tostadas.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 16, 2010Previous review"Listen to me, these are MY tortillas and I'm not going to give them up here!"
Lola's has the BEST flour tortillas! Our fave here is the carne asada plate with rice and beans, salsa and those flippin' homemade tortillas!
Yeah, its not a five star joint as far as ambience or decor, but who cares...I would eat great mexican food in a closet.
The people that work here are very nice and work hard - the prices are really reasonable. Did I mention the tortillas?
Cheap, authentic, good mexican food - YEAH!
