Can you say Prix Fixe menu Wednesday?!
3 course prix fixe menu for only $19.99 every wednesday night at Alonso's.

The 3 items i ordered was the shrimp fried rice (savory and brimming with large shrimp), The steak and potatoes (which was served pulled pork style over a plush bed of whipped creamy potatoes and gravy) & the carrot cake (tasted like it was made with aunties own hands).

This was another large group setting I was in. No one had any complaints and the portions was awesome.

I'd recommend the nacho, the salmon half salad, the prince edward island mussels and of course the Prix Fixe menu.

Came here using a groupon. Have literally rode by for years and never stopped. Surprise! Everything was good. They have a LONG list of burgers. I was overwhelmed, which is hard for me when it comes to food.

Fajitas were good, chicken was seasoned well. Rice was a little dry. Thai chili sauce Burger was good. Grilled veggies were just right. Margarita was good also.

Service was pretty good. Drinks were decent...would I return..yes. I actually have, we went twice in a week. They have a special on Mondays for burgers I have to return to check it out.

Not sure why this place has low reviews. Yelp is usually spot on. Maybe they have changed up some things here, buy I look forward to returning.

Came here a few weeks ago....very confused by the whole Alonso's/Loco Hombre thing. My friend and I sat on the Loco Hombre side and started off with the chips, salsa, and guacamole. Guacamole was ok, not fantastic. The salsa had 3 different kinds (the green one was my favorite, while the corn one was somewhat borderline spoiled?). Chips also weren't salty enough so we had to add salt!

It was a Monday evening, so we went with the burger special. I had the Godfather burger with proscuitto, roasted red pepper, minced garlic, provolone. The proscuitto was really thick, and the roasted red pepper was cold :( The burger itself was really well cooked and flavorful.

      Probably won't be back though.

So it's not so bad. The food was not as bad as I thought it would be. We came here despite the bad reviews because it was close to a class we were taking.

I ordered the old bay wings and fries. I split 12 wings with a friend (although, they only gave us 11... I wasn't counting... but my friend did... but she didn't mind it too much). The Old bay wings were ok. They weren't too dry at all and the skin was crispy and flavorful. However, the old bay taste definitely didn't get into the meaty portion of the chicken as other old bay wings I've tasted. So I was a little disappointed in that but again, not bad.

The fries were a bit soggy but at least it wasn't bland. I like a little more crispness in my fries, but I must admit that I did pretty much eat the whole side order of the fries so it must've been at least ok.

My colleagues also said that the burgers (Alonzo's) were not bad. So overall, the food was ok.

The service wasn't as bad as we thought neither. I mean, we did wait a very long time for our orders.. but the waiter definitely came back to refill our drinks whenever we needed him to.

So all in all, ok. I probably wouldn't come back only because we are only in this part of town once in a while. But it's not a bad place to visit.

FYI loco hombre is closed. What a big disappointment
My boyfriend and I had a taste for Mexican food and we live about 2mikes from the restaurant. It is SHUT DOWN people. So now we were subject to eat at Alonso's which is a basic ass eat in with basic ass food. We should of just left but we paid the price. Loco Hombre is going to be an upcoming Indian spot .

Loco Hombre is so similar to TGIFriday's that I thought I had timewarped to high school. There is nothing here in the way of atmosphere, the food is mediocre and way overpriced, et cetera. Really I think the only reason that I am giving two stars is because the waitstaff was at one point standing around watching Reno 911 IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RESTAURANT, mirroring my feelings toward the place more accurately than the other, seemingly content, diners, who made me feel mildly sociopathic.

I've gotta update here and take away a star. Today at work I could not get out of my mind the moment when Wayne the Waiter, with no apology or outward display of shame, carried to our table a (nearly empty) bottle of Melinda's Mango and some kind of dyed-red vinegar and presented them as "hot sauce."

This place is still very overpriced for what you get; they need to greatly improve their menu and preparation quality to continue to get customers to return. I REALLY wish they would do so since I live close and love good mexican or even tex-mex food.

We just ate there and with one salad and two lowest-price entrees (a chicken burrito and a burger) and a pint of beer the bill it was $43 + tip.

The "mexican" food is very limited in scope (probably about 8 options) and also pretty terrible and overpriced. The burritos are not flavorful and seem to lack any spices whatsoever (even with the bit of salsa dumped on them). They serve chips with it but no salsa to dip them in. The guacamole was fresh but a total blah, salsa on burrito was blah to the point where the sour cream seemed relatively flavorful by comparison.

As for American food, I don't know why they serve it if there is Alfonso's right in the same building unless maybe it's to give you a heads-up as to the quality of the mexican food or something. Anyway, the fries were tasty and have skin on them, which is good, but were cold. The burger was too irregular and thick and toppings on it were flavorless (and no it's not that I'm anosmic or something). The bun was dried out; it actually cracked into pieces when I cut the burger in half (see part about the burger being too fat).

The arugula and fried goat cheese salad is pretty good, but should it be $10? Not in my book for what you get; too vinegar-y and not enough apples. However, this salad was closer to appropriate value than the other food, although the other food was just so uninspiring I would not even be excited to have it for free. Sad but true.

This place needs to either take a page from Mari Luna mexican restaurant and raise its quality and offerings in this regard, or else close down and/or change their name and what they serve.

I'm concerned and saddened by the fact that since almost all of Alfonsoville's restaurants (Miss Shirley's, Roland Park Bagel, S'ghetti Eddie's, Alfonso's and Loco Hombre) are the same owner perhaps they they just keep Loco Hombre treading water simply to keep out competition in the neighborhood, but the customers really get the short end of the stick because of this monopoly. Competition is what makes restaurants great and keep them great... I hope something changes with Loco Hombre pdq!

I shoulda known......I shoulda known to check Yelp before going out to eat. I coulda saved myself some money and perhaps eaten somewhere good.

Started off with a Chile Relleno. If you don't know, Chile Relleno is as close to heaven as I can imagine....well when done correctly that is!

When it arrived at the table, I have to admit I was excited. The breading look light ( a big deal in my book ) and the chile was a good size! Time to dig in! NO, no it wasn't. I tasted the red sauce on the plate first only to find it was cold.....ok I let that slide. I cut into the pepper and noticed it was hard. I got a lil' chunk off and popped it into my mouth....and the shit was COLD. I politely sent it back to the surprise of my company. The server was cool about it and promptly had a new one out to me. This one was good. It was cooked, all the way! A good start. Stuffed with corn, onions and some peppers; it was a nice version of an old classic. I have to admit, it needed more cheese but I can't say it was bad. I'm a stickler for a chile with tons of cheese, period. But hey, I'll try new things.

For the "main" course I had a Tostada Salad and my friend had the "famous fajitas" with shrimp. I want to stress that they wrote "famous" on the menu. Really, they did.

I was thinking Taco Bell......a flat tortilla fried hard with a smearing of beans, lettuce, cheese and some chopped tomatoes. Good eats really. Not what I received. A super fried tortilla bowl filled with wilted brown lettuce, a small scoop of guac, sour cream and a miniscule pinch of cheese. No dressing. ??? Huh, no dressing?!? I pulled out the funky lettuce onto the top, pushed the salad to the side of the table and had a drink.

It's clear to me now that the fajitas are famous for having no flavor. Those were the exact words she used when she tried them. I jumped on the chance to try them as I hadn't any food I could eat.....and yeah, not much flavor. I see in other reviews that people think this place lacks flavor...and yes they do. Oh and the shrimp were tiny, previously frozen I am sure....and only 4 for the whole meal. WTF?

Not impressed at all with this place. 2 people, 1 app, 1 salad, 1 'famous' fajita and 4 drinks = $80 plus tip.

Based on quality....I'd think $30-40 woulda been a fair price.

Somone put it perfectly when they said "Take a lesson from Mari Luna".....not a verbatim quote but ya get the idea.

I was told this place used to be great, but didn't find much reason to like it. The chips and salsa were fresh, but the burger and enchiladas we ordered were just OK. The biggest problem for me was that the meal for two cost $45 with no alcohol and I didn't feel like I got anywhere close to that value.
It's also a little weird that the place is attached to a beer and wine store.

My office used to be a few blocks from Loco Hombre and I was there at least once/week. Never true Mexican food, but was always VERY good. I went back last week for the first time in probably a year. The menu made no sense - it was a jumbled mix of Tex-Mex, pizza and other stuff. I started with a margarita - nothing special, but hit the spot. Should have stuck to tequila and chips...

Three of us shared an empanada appetizer. It seemed to be just a fried mealy cornmeal/dough concoction. There was a spoonful of something in the center, but not sure what it was.

My entree was the crispy corn tortilla taco with steak. At least that's what the menu said. There were three crispy-stale taco shells, but the rest was a mystery. The meat was some short of shredded ... beef, I assume. It tasted as if it were deli-case barbecue. I took one bite of the ice-cream scoop of refried beans - just a dry, tasteless blob. Didn't even bother trying the fiesta rice.

Frankly -- Taco Bell is several steps above what I was served.
