We came across this little cafe a few years ago. I can't believe it's taken me so long to write a review. The staff is super sweet here; friendly and accommodating.
It was one of the first places we went with our first (when he was a baby) and we continue to visit for the great breakfast dishes and pastrami sandwiches (my husband loves the pastrami sandwiches so much he sometimes gets it for breakfast).
It's small and quaint and we love sitting outside and people watch.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mo R.Lemon Grove, CA121925Mar 27, 2021Updated review
Lemon Grove Deli has Permanently Closed
Another in a long list of privately owned businesses that has been shuttered thanks to the gov. of the state.
This place was a Great spot to eat.
It will be sorely missedHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 12, 2017Previous reviewLemon Grove Deli & Grill has become our once a week for breakfast place.
The waiting staff is always very welcoming.
We have tried almost every breakfast item on the menu and never been disappointed. The food is always hot and delicious. The coffee too.
Lemon Grove Deli & Grill also features an expansive lunch menu. Although we have never tried it we have seen a few of the sandwiches they offer and they look Delicious.
Sometimes waiting to get your order in, or waiting for your food, is an issue but that is really the only negative about this place.
Lemon Grove Deli & Grill has a very laid back atmosphere. They offer ample outside seating so bring your ,well behaved, dog along too.
Special Shout out to Erica who although sometimes is overwhelmed, it's not her fault; she could use some help, is Always Extra Friendly and Courteous. - 3344951130Oct 3, 2019
We wanted a quick breakfast and not waste any time. Looking around the places we stayed, this place popped up. We placed the order over the phone and the staff was very friendly and communicated well.
We went with grilled sriracha chicken sandwich and veggie sandwich. We were very disappointed with the chicken sandwich. It was too greasy and there was no hint of sriracha in it. The chicken pieces too felt hard and was not very good. However the veggie sandwich was really good and had avacado, Mayo, cheese and veggies in it. Tasted delicious and was worth it.
The price is average and I would recommend to try other menu items coz this place does look promising.Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2019
Four stars for service. To be honest I've always knew of this little spot. I just happened to be in area at Honda dealer and me plus my kid were hungry. We got there, wasn't very busy (which I liked). Couple people were inside eating. I ordered a breakfast plate, decent priced. The cashier was nice and informative! We opted for outside seating, food came within five minutes. The favor was great, wanted more eggs, french toast was tasty. Cashier checked on us twice and refilled drinks, nice experience I must say. Give it a shot!

This place was very, very good. It is a small place with very, very friendly servers.
The food is basically diner style, which we all enjoy from time to time. Just like all over previous reviews, the portions are huge, which I simply adore.
What we ordered:
1. Hungry man's breakfast
a. 1 lb of some type of meat (sausage, bacon, or ham) along with eggs, hashbrowns
and a waffle. A beast of a breakfast.
2. Pastrami Fries
a. Their pastrami is legit. Definitely get something with pastrami here.
3. Greek Fries
a. Great fries with gyro meat on top.
4. Cheesesteak
a. Typical cheesesteak sandwich. Large portion
5. Various breakfast items (bacon, eggs, toast, waffle, pancakes)
a. Overall, all the items were great and made to order. They actually have really good pancakes.
If you are in the area, I would recommend this place. Definitely get the pastrami.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 9, 2015
First visit, first impression I must say I felt welcomed and the waitress was super friendly. This small size restaurant was clean and nicely decorated for the holiday season. We were greeted upon entering and the waitress was quite good at small talk. She was helpful and pleasant which made for a positive experience.
We found this restaurant on Yelp when we were searching for the best Reuben Sandwiches in San Diego. Turns out according to my husband the sandwich was delicious. It was loaded with tender tasty corned beef and just the right amount of sauerkraut on sourdough bread. I ordered the "Greek Gyro" it was good but I have had better. Something about the pita bread I didn't like so much.
Overall, I will be back because they had a delicious looking breakfast menu and many more sandwiches to try.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Dec 14, 2015Purchased a Yelp Deal
Good portions, friendly associates, solid food. What more can you ask for? Not trying to be anything but a deli that serves a mean breakfast that filling and tasty.
Been coming here for years and will continue to do so when I just want a classic breakfast and don't want to travel out of my area too much.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 5, 2015Updated reviewPurchased a Yelp Deal

New ownership. Uh oh. Many questions that I may not want the answers. I hope the cranky lady I encountered at lunchtime is much cheerful now.
Was considering one of the three diner/cafe spots, each within walking distance to the other. This one got the nod for today. I noticed the dry erase board mentioning new ownership instead of Today's Menu Specials. Plenty of open seating today as we received a friendly greeting from our server and picked up a menu. Service was very good. A couple of table touches, drink refills, and pleasant all around.
After narrowing down some menu picks, I asked for some server recommendations. A neutral reply about what usually sells more, rather than a personal choice. I'm worried if the food isn't much to rave about if that's the standard answer. Foreshadowing.
Wifey gets a bacon and cheese omelette (the menu does include it with avocado, but she opted hers without) plus hash browns and a side of pancakes. I sampled bites of each. The hash browns are overdone on the outside and cold in the inside. The omelette was fluffy, although not very cheesy, and the bacon was ok. My 2 cents, but I would've liked some chopped bacon incorporated with the eggs, not just folded into the cheese omelette at the end. A short stack of two served up hot, making for melty butter goodness. We agreed this sweet plate won breakfast.
My breakfast: corned beef hash, a couple of over easy eggs, home fries, and a side of biscuit and gravy. Pass on the b&g. I haven't had them before the ownership change, so I can't compare, but if this is the original recipe, then it should be burned and y'all should take it off the menu. You don't need to be from the South and fly a Confederate flag to tell the difference. History might have altered if the Rebels fired these biscuits at those damn Yankees. I also learned that both breakfast potato sides are not made in-house. The home fries are precut into large chunks and knowing that they're brought in is such a bummer, but there are a lot on the plate and when you cut them up, it works better to get a bit of a bit of everything on the fork. Eggs OE done perfectly and the hash had good bits of crunchy cooked edges.
I'm rooting for you guys, but with competitors each a block away, I hope my visit is just a one-off and not a down trend, because this is a tough biz to crack let alone conquer. The locals are counting on you to deliver.Helpful 17Thanks 0Love this 17Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello Conrad and thank you for your thoughtful and honest review. Yes, we are new owners ; only been here for 3 weeks. Our first concern was to clean and reorganize everything which is still being done. We closed early last Saturday and worked all night to revamp with new lighting and started on updating the decor. We changed the quality of the meats to USDA choice and changed to better bread right away. Tom also increased portions on some of the sandwiches to 8 oz. including the roast beef, the hamburgers and the chicken. We want to give good value for your money. To be honest I have yet to try the biscuits and gravy but I assure you we will address this concern. It my hope that given a little time this will be one of the finest places in the area to come in and eat. I hope you and your wife will come again.
Sep 5, 2014Previous reviewLemon Grove Deli is one of those local mainstays that has been around for as long as I can remember. I have vague memories of when there used to be Ace Drive-In movies a few blocks away, before Highway 125 connected La Mesa to National City, and eons before social media and teh Yelps.
I rediscovered LGD&G because of a Yelp offer: $10 voucher for $5. It's a pretty good deal considering their fan favorite sandwiches with a side plus a drink will definitely meat or exceed that value. Don't worry, herbivores, there are veggie sandwiches to get your fill of chlorophyll and carbohydrates.
I visited this afternoon towards the tail end of the lunch rush and it was plenty busy with folks enjoying sandwiches and others waiting to pick up to-go orders. There's a sidewalk patio leading up to the cozy dining area.
Today's snack was a hot roast beef pastrami sandwich and a side of fries. Delicious. Nice amount of hearty deli eats with melted cheese and grilled onions. Soft sandwich roll with a good chew which held together nicely. You should definitely speak up if you don't want it with 'the Works': adding lettuce, tomato, and mustard. I personally don't think it belongs or makes this sandwich better because putting a cold salad in a grilled hot sandwich doesn't work in my recipe book; but to each their own.
The guy working the register was cool. He was friendly and had excellent customer service skills towards several folks around the room. That older lady, on the other hand, sheesh, what a selective grump. She seemed to like certain people and never mind the others. I guess being stuck on the hot plate grill on a hot SoCal day has an effect.
I might have to swing by sometime for breakfast. There are a several options in the vicinity worth checking out, but I noticed some nice yelp photos here. Maybe Ms. Madface will have a happy smile when I return. - 1017204410979Dec 27, 2014
Went to Lemon Grove deli for breakfast. I had the pancakes with bacon & eggs over easy. It was delicious. The pancakes were moist. The bacon was crisp. When we walked in, there were the Sheriff's eating there too. Must be a popular spot.
The service was okay. The waitress could have at least smiled. Minus one star for that. The food was delicious!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jim G.Lemon Grove, CA5622Aug 25, 2018Updated review
