About the Business
Legend Seafood was established in 1990 at Chinatown Cultural Plaza; offers a Hong Kong Cantonese style dining experience in a modest and relaxed atmosphere along with reasonable price. Legend offers full service of casual dining, take out, group and party dining, with a commitment to provide excellent services, superior food quality, and a clean, friendly environment. Pulse, Honolulu Star Advertiser says: "It can get kind of crazy dining at Legend, but the crowds and noise are worth it for a reliably fresh and delicious dim sum and Chinese classics. Especially popular with a large families on weekends, but pretty much busy all the time. Recommended: bao (steamed, stuffed dumplings), joong (sweet rice richly laced with roast pork), look fun (pork-flecked rice noodle roll), egg custard tart."

I live across the street from Legends, and many other restaurants in Honolulu Chinatown.
I recommend their sweet and sour filet of fish. The dish excels in taste.
Legends offers a large variety of dim sum during lunch hour, its no wonder they are always busy.
The mayor had a table reserved for Chinese New year and had the festive lion dance come I to the restaurant.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - E P.Ewa Beach, HI09Mar 6, 2024
This is primarily a review for pickup. We ordered ~$78 worth of dim sum. The wrong buns were given and we were missing an order of another bun. I should have checked better.
Upon entering, it was well lit, clean, the staff was helpful and pointed us towards the back where the cash register was, so we could pick up our order. People were seated a few tables apart. We went around noon on a weekday.
Parking is pretty easy. There is street parking to scan the QR code to pay or you can park inside the parking garage.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Fern K.Waimea, HI220117127Apr 18, 2024
Even though it was a Sunday and they were extremely busy with a pretty long line waiting to be seated, we waited only about 10 - 15 minutes for a table for 4 people.
Although seating was fast we had to wait at least 20 minutes for the 'cart girl' to notice us and that was with me being aggressive in waving her down!
The food was good, not over-the-top tasty but good enough to be recognized as dim sum .
The wait help was not very helpful either because each time I would ask them for an item (ie: water, forks instead of chop sticks) they would either ignore me or take forever to bring the requested item!
Typical loud atmosphere for a Dim Sum restaurant; so loud I couldn't hear my poor Aunt, who was sitting directly across me, say anything when she was speaking!
All-in-all, I would give this restaurant a solid 3-stars, at the most. Too much going on all at the same time!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 149169679Feb 19, 2024
Came here on Chinese New Year. Fortunately we arrived at 10am, right before the rush!
Service was fast. The dim sum was good. Kinda disappointed in the look funn as it didn't have much flavor. I usually like to eat mine plain, but I had to add plum sauce to this one.
There's not much of ambiance. Tables are close together in almost a cafeteria setting. It's good to just grind and leave.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 12, 2024Updated review
Extensive menu with reasonable quality of food but Harbor Village Cuisine at Koko Marina is still our favorite for Chinese food in Hawaii. Staff is friendly and ambiance is exquisite.

The dining room smelled great and was full of satisfied customers. Portions are quite generous so the two aforementioned items more than filled our party of three adults. We will be regulars!!

No, Forget about this place. Food is bad, service is bad, too cold with AC blowing hard, and tables are packed tight to the point of uncomfortable.
Our favorite Dimsum was closed on Tuesday, so came here next door instead. The lady brought us to a tightly packed row of tables where you can smell your neighbor.
The Dimsum card too long to come around and if they did, you must holler for them to not skip your table. How difficult to get some food here?
Once the food is service, we quickly notice the quality of the meat tasted old, frozen by how it smelled and how hard it was to chew on.
I asked for a menu to see if there is anything else decent to order, and the server said they don't have any menu for me. So we decided to leave and not give this place anymore money.Helpful 7Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 6 - Mae F.Honolulu, HI1863712593Apr 17, 2024Updated review
I had to go to Chinatown to get a visa for my flight into Vietnam, so my daughter came with me after I bribed her with a dim sum lunch. Honestly, we'd planned to go to a different place but decided to come here when we found out that the other place was closed for a month. The place was packed, and even though the food is good here (spare ribs were especially delicious, as well as the har gow with big, chunky pieces of tender shrimp). The only problem I had was with the poor service
I asked 4 different "cart ladies" for a coke, they all smiled and nodded but after eating half of our meal, no drinks had arrived. I finally went up to the cashier and was scolded and told of course the cart ladies can't bring me a coke, they are not waitresses. I didn't see a single waitress and I even asked a busboy but he looked terrified and quickly walked away. I'm not scary, I promise LOL. I was OK with the service but my daughter was upset and told me I was being aggressive. We had a discussion on aggressive vs. assertive, and later agreed that while the food was tasty, we'll go to where the service is better next time. I'd definitely come back by myself the next time because i understand sometimes we just need to be patient. A solid 3 stars for the steaming baskets of delicious dim sum.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 3, 2019Previous reviewMy friend is visiting from San Francisco and wanted to try dim sum, so I picked her up at her hotel and drove straight to Legend, in the Chinatown Cultural Center. Parking is conveniently located next to the center and with validation, we only paid 2.00 after being there for a good long time.
I've heard stories about this place, about how pushy the servers are and how difficult it is to get a cart come to your table if you do not speak Chinese. I'm happy to report that the service was very friendly and not pushy at all. We enjoyed seeing what each cart had to offer, and my only regret was not bringing more people so we could try out more different types of dim sum.
We tried several dishes, and here's what we had:
1. Har gow - these ubiquitous shrimp dumplings were the best I've had. A delicate wrapper stuffed with flavorful, large pieces of shrimp. I'll be sure to come back just for this!
2. Char siu bao - nothing special about these...they weren't bad, but the outer bun was very thick and had a small amount of char siu filling. I'd pass on these.
3. Mochi puffs - very good, stuffed with pork, with a very pleasant chewy mochi flavor surrounding the filling.
4. I don't know what these were called, but they were half moon shaped and filled with char siu pork, vegetables and crunchy water chestnuts. The outer shell was of a baked bread like quality. I enjoyed these.
5. Scallop look fun - I really didn't get much of the scallop flavor in this, it was sort of bland. I would skip this next time or try one with another type of meat filling.
6. Lotus rice - surprisingly tasteless. The mochi like texture of the rice was good, but I had to doctor this up with shoyu, hot mustard and chili paste.
7. Pork hash - not the best, not the worst, it was ok. It's sort of like you can't eat dim sum without pork hash, so we ordered it and it was satisfactory.
8. Xiao long bao - this was my most anticipated dish, because I am in search of the best XLB on Oahu. Unfortunately I did not find it here. The soup was not piping hot, the skins were a bit on the thick side, but I still liked this dish because it had been so long since I had this. I would definitely order this again.
Service was excellent, with carts coming by often and no one trying to force us to take a dish. Waters and hot mustard were brought cheerfully when requested, and we were not rushed. I really enjoyed my lunch here and look forward to coming back to try other types of dim sum. We'll be back! - Mar 16, 2024

Legend Seafood is located on the ground floor in the Chinese Cultural center. There is a parking lot but we parked on the street, metered parking.
This is our "go to" place for dim sum if we're downtown. Legend has dim sum carts so you can see what to order even though you may not know the appropriate name! So much variety and selection to choose from.
We ordered the usual siu mai (pork hash) , har gau ( shrimp dumplings), black bean spareribs, white book tripe which was tough, and needed to be cooked more! Our host wanted scallops with spinach. I ordered the tender juicy chicken feet! For dessert we got the egg whites custard tarts which are very healthy and just as good as the yellow egg tarts! You need to try it next time you go!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 583501673Dec 5, 2023
For a authentic Chinatown no frills experience Legends is the place. This restaurant has changed names in the past fifty years but is a fixture in Chinatown that I hope stays for another half decade. Legends is busy, fast paced, servers rushing to take orders and deliver food. However this is all part of what makes Legends a delicious relic of the past.
The dimsum has definitely gotten better. Everything is hot, fresh, basic and hits your soul. The har gow, sticky rice, fried egg rolls, beef chow fun all seasoned perfectly delicious.
Legends gets packed on weekends. Definitely go before 11am for a good seat or you will be waiting outside for a table.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 0
