How fortunate it was to come across this incredible gem on our DC trip! I enjoyed every bit of it. Having grown up in French-speaking Switzerland and visited Paris numerous times, this place brought me right back home! Starting with the definitively French accent of our server :)
The interior design is gorgeous. I would call it artistic, rustic, and elegant. The large windows let in a lot of natural light, and I couldn't get my eyes off the elegance of their 2-story tall curtains or their unique selection of suspended lighting.
It only took one bite for me to tell that the owners of this establishment are French. Though this was not the very best French food I've ever had, it was very delicious and authentic. I would highly recommend checking out their $19.95 brunch special, which comes with a glass of mimosa, along with an appetizer/entree combo or an entree/dessert combo. Also, don't forget to check in on the Yelp App for a free glass of wine!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Nataly -- artistic, rustic, AND elegant? I wish you could see the smile you just put on my face! I can't tell you how much it means to me to receive such high praise from someone as familiar with the French community as you are. I hope you'll visit DC again soon and come eat with us again.
By the way, how did you come across us?
Hope to talk soon,

Came here for brunch and was not disappointed! They had a brunch special (entree and champagne/mimosa with either an appetizer or dessert) for $23! Hard to beat and what a steal!
Had the omelette with cheese and ham, with a side salad, a mimosa, and a Nutella crepe! Special shout out to the omelette.. which was so delicate and fluffy. We were able to sit outside, and they had a heat lamp so it was completely fine and cozy (with a coat on..come on it's still winter!).
Also, loved the fresh bread at the table. Service was exceptional, and they really took care of us. Please do yourself a favor and make your next outing here! They said they've been slower because of covid, like many resteraunts, and it's such a shame because it is so delicious!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 2, 2021Updated review
Excellent meal from Le Grenier tonight!
I ordered our lamb chops medium rare & that's exactly how they arrived. We ate them right away & they were hot & juicy & delicious!
I put the French fries in the oven while we ate the lamb chops & they were great when we ate them.
The Door Dash delivery person was right in time.
We'll be ordering from here again soon!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 21, 2021Previous reviewWe had a very nice meal delivered from Le Grenier.
It is tricky, though, to make the delivery process work for you.
We had the lamb chops & they were excellent. I urge you to make sure to specify how you want them prepared. We like our medium rare. We learned that you have to eat them as soon as they arrive. Warming them at home turns them into medium, which we're not keen on.
The French fries were very good as well. We ate some of ours right away & heated the rest. That plan worked!
And my husband liked the creme brûlée. - 5087486Jan 29, 2022
Le Grenier has a great brunch deal. You get a choice of either a mimosa, rosé, or champagne for your drink and a choice of an appetizer and entrée or an entrée and a dessert for around $24 a person. The restaurant has a great feel too it and I loved all of the decor. The service is quite slow (however it is a French) and the food overall is a bit underwhelming. Nothing memorable. I got the pâté which was decent and the steak which was a bit bland and overcooked.

Sit at the bar, order a drink, try the mussels, then dip your bread in the broth; you won't be disappointed. Adam, working the bar will give you a nice heavy pour to accompany your fare because, well... l'eau fait pleurer le vin chanter! You'll enjoy every minute of your time in this cozy and cool French bistro right on H street. Every time we swing by that section of the district, we discover another amazing find, but we keep returning to Le Grenier as it's charms and flavors were worth patronizing again. In fact, this spot may be my favorite on the H street corridor.

Very impressed with how this restaurant went above and beyond for their customers!
We ordered takeout for restaurant week, which comes with three courses. I ordered the chicken, which was supposed to be a lemon-olive chicken but received a very different chicken entree with peppers and onions. We called and informed them of the mixup and they were apologetic and offered to comp a new entree since they weren't making the lemon-olive chicken.
I was a little bummed that I couldn't have the lemon-olive chicken, but the beef tenderloin was great! Loved the puff pastry on the bottom and the beef was very tender.
The desserts were fabulous. Loved the mousse and the strawberry tart.
I would love to visit the restaurant in person for brunch or dinner when things are a little less hectic!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Darold H.Washington, DC3343Dec 13, 2021
Quite possibly the worst service I've ever experienced at any restaurant in the world. I'd heard great things so decided to try with friends(group of 3). On a slow Sunday night, my friends arrived at 7:30, and placed their entree orders at 7:50, just as I arrived. It took 20 minutes for us to get our bottle of wine and their food. One of the entrees was lukewarm, so she asked for it to replaced. Our waiter was inattentive the entire meal, with us having to get his attention each time we needed anything. She received a new order of lamb chops 40 minutes later, only after we inquired about its status.
When we requested to speak to the manager, he refused to come to the table; presumably wanting us to shout across the dining room. He constantly interrupted us while trying to express our disappointment, at one point demanding we eat our food. After requesting the bottle of wine to be taken off the bill as a courtesy, he then grabbed the plate of food we waited 40+ minutes for and told us to leave and never come back.
We would've been more than happy to simply get an explanation for the lack of attentiveness and slow delivery of the food, and was instead treated rudely and unprofessionally. I wish the food we did get to taste even remotely justified the inexcusable behavior from the staff.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 241302111Mar 11, 2019
Really wish I could give more stars because it's charming, but sometimes charm isn't enough. My biggest qualm was that service was incredibly slow and spotty -- we sat for a long time before we got asked if we wanted drinks, again for a while before our food order was taken, I asked for a second cup of coffee that never came (and I never got to ask again because nobody paid attention to us until we had to ask for the check), and it took a while to get our check. I don't think that was part of the French charm: other tables seemed to get more attention (second rounds of baguette, etc) while we wallowed away in the corner on the balcony. Brunch is tough, I get it, but I was scratching my head: did we do something wrong? We weren't demanding.
The food was good, so it's a shame the service detracted so much. Bread was, as one would expect, great. I had the gallete du chef, which was tasty (although the ingredients weren't evenly distributed so I had to make it a little ugly to get the goat cheese, butternut squash, onions, and pear all together). My companion really enjoyed the salmon benedict as well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 27, 2019
So haven't had the food here but I've come for happy hour and I definitely will be back again. I mean...half off wine on Friday from 5-7pm, count me in! The ambiance is very nice and intimate. Great for a date or small group. On the Friday evening that I went, they played some lovely Zouk music which I was not expecting but then again most Zouk music is sung in French. The bartenders were really great and very attentive. The bar is a decent size but kind of cramped when sitting next to someone.
Overall, ambiance and service was great at the bar. I will definitely be back for another happy hour and dining soon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Robert Z.Naples, FL1411819Mar 23, 2021
The french onion soup was delicious. The Les Galettes were just ok. The building was beautiful and the waiter was very nice. The service was great. I am giving 3 stars because the Les Galettes were $15 each and very disappointing.
