After multiple visits I feel confident saying Layla has the absolute worst customer service of any store in the neighborhood. The staff is snobby and condescending and the store set-up is not customer friendly. There are stacks of textiles and you have no idea a) what each piece of fabric actually is and b) what the cost is. But don't count on the employees to help you. If you don't look like you can spend a ton of money right then and there, they won't bother with you.

Do yourself a favor and look online for similar fabrics. You can find better quality and more reasonable prices elsewhere.

Wow! I am amazed by all of the reviews below. I couldn't agree more on how incredibly rude the owner Alayne is. I had significant cash to drop, but she completely ignored me when I asked her if I could get a better look at a necklace, THREE TIMES.

Then I heard her yelling at some poor guy on the phone for not giving her back her credit card which she left on the table of some restaurant. The level of professionalism was so poor.

The only reason she is still in business, is because she has great taste. There is no doubt about that which is why I am giving 2 stars.

If you have not yet found Layla on Atlantic Ave, you are doing yourself a disservice. The store is amazingly "curated"... it's the only word I can use. The towels and other linens handpicked in India are simply "swoon worthy". The owner also hand blocks fabrics and makes very cool women's clothes. The jewelry is quite pricey, but once you hear about every single hand crafted piece, or vintage piece you truly understand you are buying a piece of wearable art.

Was window shopping around this neighborhood one sunday afternoon with my bestie and spotted Laya, at the corner of Atlantic and Hoyt st.

Beautiful selection of Merchandise. Everything is soooooo colorful, vibrant and luxurious. I think if you're shopping around for exotic throw pillows & Linens for your apt. this is the place to get it!

The owner definitely has very good taste.

This place is ridiculously over priced. You have to ring the bell to go in first of all. The lady does not greet you. Rather, she glares at you because you inconvenienced her for wanting to look inside the store. The staff is incredibly rude. The stuff is not worth the price. You can find much better quality stuff for a more competitive price in Brooklyn Heights.

The staff is so hostile it's funny, unless you want to, like, actually buy something - at which point they are a major obstacle to your completing the transaction. The last time I was in (and it will be the last time), the owner repeatedly rolled her eyes at me and complained that with so many customers stopping by, she "couldn't get anything done." The shop was empty. I walked out mid-purchase. She was probably happy to get back to her job - not selling things, apparently.

Aside from good taste, this store owner cannot offer much in the way of confidence that the hard earned money you have paid is worth spending at Layla. I've never known her to be terribly warm but that's not as important as being an honorable business person. I purchased a $450.00 dollar Sammy tote bag in April of very soft leather, I returned it in May for the lining to be fixed because the fabric on the inside tore from the seam and it tore again in June while on a brief trip. I showed it to a friend who designs handbags and she said the fabric was not strong and it would probably tear again. I was furious about buying from her since I knew from others she was difficult and went in after she told me before it was probably my fault. "I must have put something heavy it." Well, it's a large tote bag and it is brand new and I put the usual things in it. I don't carry rocks. The fabric looked like someone chewed on it. it was used 4x since getting it fixed prior. Also, I had 5 ounces of water which leaked and it made a pronounced stain on it that cannot be fixed. I asked for a credit or refund or something to compensate me. The bag is not meant to be worn, its meant to be hung on the wall. it's junk! She did nothing and when I told her to keep it and take out some friends on my $450.00 she threw it back at me and showed me the door. I am disgusted by her and how she handled it and very angry at myself for purchasing from her. I have found a few things now since shopping there are waaaaay overpriced and you can get much cheaper, including a leather woven tote I found on Etsy for a 3rd of the price. Just a terrible experience and loss of money. I try to purchase from small business owners and pay in cash. I know times are rough but this situation makes me think twice. Save your money, there are some very fine small business owners with lovely things who practice good faith policies every day.

The jewelry in here is absolutely stunning-- but the owner/salesperson was a complete beyotch. She made us feel like petty thieves. She was not very open about showing us the pieces and would quickly put them back in their cases after we looked at them. And again the jewelry is gorgeous but the way it is so haphazardly displayed does not match the exorbitant prices.

This shop is a treasure trove. It has beautiful things. Everything in the shop is carefully curated. I love the the jewelry - each piece is a unique treasure and it is obvious that the owner is very picky on her travels throughout India in regards to what she buys. The customer benefits. I especially love the tailored handmade clothes which are designed by the owner and made with carefully selected handmade woven and block print fabrics from India. I have found the staff very courteous and endlessly patient with regards to trying on many different items and sizes.
