Yes people, it's Mexican in a Gas Station!
Ok, so I wasn't quite sure about this place at first, but now I get a kick every time I go here. This place is great! It's clean, cheap, fast, and pretty damn tasty. A broad range of food from traditional to gringo, and probably my favorite (California style) big burrito in the area. My favorite is the steak which is a little more steaky than most places. Anyway, if your looking for a break from the mi pueblo's and los altas, check out "Gas Station" Mexican!!!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Ross S.Detroit, MI20186Dec 14, 2009
Ok... maybe a 5-star is stretching it, but you know what? This place is AWESOME. Very affordable, amazingly flavorful food... and guess what? It's a freaking mexican restaurant in a gas station!!!! Seriously? That's awesome!!!
I'm a total fan of hole-in-the-wall venues, so when someone basically takes a Blimpie/Subway/etc space in a gas station and turns it into a fantastic, comfortable place where I can get tasty tacos, bueno burritos, and tantalizing tortas (ok, alliteration aside, the tortas are by FAR my favorite!), I'm completely and 100% sold.
A couple fun things to know before going and checking it out for yourself:
1. When you order the burrito with rice and beans, please note that the rice and beans come INSIDE the burrito... and they don't skimp on the ingredients. The thing is delivered in BRICK form... both size-wise as well as how you're stomach's going to feel if you actually finish the thing.
2. HIGHLY recommend the marinated chicken as the meat-of-choice... but only if you like slow-burning heat. It's VERY tasty, flavorful, and for a spice-hound like me... completely hits the spot. I prefer to enjoy it in the torta.
3. For the morning crowd, they make a fantastic breakfast burrito w/ eggs & chorizo. Note: Despite their small size, 99% of you will NOT be eating lunch that day if you do choose to pick them up. Filling is not even the word...
So wrap me up and put me in a bag... I'm taking myself out to Las Cazuelas!!! (kinda random, but a close that I'll stand by)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Joseph W.Detroit, MI1373115Mar 27, 2010
My buddies and I refer to this place as "Gas-Station Taco". Cheap, quality, quantity, and flavorful. The big chicken burrito is amazing, the ingredients always seem to be very fresh. This place sparked my love for cilantro on tacos. And they have some of the best homemade tortilla chips this side of Mexicantown.
The staff has always been friendly and helpful. This is the perfect place to go after you've had a couple drinks, and you're not driving of course.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Allen L.Spring, TX438445258Apr 16, 2010
Good tacos. Choice of meat a bit limited.
i had carne asada and it was very good, not exceptional.
They will prepare your taco any way you like from the right way: cilantro & onion to cheese and sour cream.
Good friendly service. Fast. Plenty of tables.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ken Z.Rochester, MI434820Jan 26, 2010
Yes, it is in a gas station. Get over it. First, it is off to the side i.e. run as a separate business from the gas. Second, it is fresh - I like to call it the Subway of Mexican food. All the ingredients are right in front of you and you walk down the line saying what you want in your burrito, taco, etc.
I stick with the chicken. I found the steak to be a little chewy and the ground beef is too spicy, etc. for me.
You have a choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, cilantro, salsa (three levels of heat) in your burrito, taco, etc. Guacamole which is excellent is also offered but costs extra as does sour cream.
I like the burrito ($5.95) which takes two hands to eat. One of my old co-workers always got the quesadilla and said it was one of the best they had ever had.
Authentic - they speak English, but if you speak Spanish, the ladies are happy to converse with you in their native tongue.
There are four tables with four seats as well as a counter with stools facing the parking lot. I almost always eat in, but a lot of people carry out.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Laurent S.Ann Arbor, MI14614Jul 8, 2010
Wow...I'm so psyched this place is still going. Just a great hole-in-the-wall burrito / taco joint. Really, really good, and a great deal.
