Looking for a brief road trip for the intrepid golfer, even in devilish 100 plus degree temperatures lately? Pack your clubs and head north, north to New Braunfels, Texas and the Landa Park Golf Course, for a rewarding day on the links.
A 45 minute drive from San Antonio, the course is nestled between the historic Comal River Power Plant, and the meandering Comal River. The towering smoke stacks of the plant mark the geographic location of the course, and the mirth and laughter of tubers on the river provide auditory proof that one has found the place.
(A point of interest is that the Comal River was diverted by a canal in the 1800's, and the Plant was built aside the canal in 1925. It seems the near constant 70 degree water temperature was considered ideal for cooling the plant, and its electricity served the surrounding areas for decades. The plant has been closed for some years, was saved from the demolition ball, and has been repurposed for loft and garden apartments.)
But, back to the course. Our recent visit found very welcoming counter staff and starter of very good humour! The fee? $29.00 plus $10.00 for the cart, a pretty reasonable week day, senior rate for a respectable golf course. One important consideration for the patron: NO DRIVING RANGE, so take your weighted club to loosen up prior to your round. The course features a large putting practice green, the surface of which closely mirrors the greens on the course. I did not spy a sand trap practice area. Golf carts are in excellent condition, featuring satellite range finder on board. Despite the record breaking heat of late, the fairways were in surprising condition, a very few bare spots, as one may expect. But the good news? The greens were perfectly tended, rolling fast and true, almost as rolling the dimpled ball on a carpet!
There are water hazards along the course, and only two forced carries off the tee. On the front nine, meandering streams closely guard the approach to two greens: Achtung!! Peligro!! Danger Will Robinson!! Choose your clubs carefully! (speaking from unhappy experience here on the first of the two). There are dog legs to contend with, making for interesting play, but previous knowledge of the layout would definitely be advantageous for the patron. Interesting also: 3 par threes on the back nine. The player will find some elevation changes, again providing interest and challenge for club selection. The layout is fair, with no "tricked up" holes. Another visual treat: deer munching leaf salad along the course, ducks paddling the springs and ponds along the track.
Our foursome totally enjoyed the course. The course is definitely not on the level as say, La Cantera, or TPC, or Barton Creek. But this is a VERY respectable track, and for the price, just can't be beat. (BTW, the level of skill of our foursome: usually scoring in the high 70's to high 80's)
We will definitely return! Enjoy yelpers!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brandon S.Uptown, San Antonio, TX5141Jan 14, 2023
Great Muni Course. The deer and wildlife running around can ease even the worst round of golf. Parking lot could be bigger and I do wish they had a driving range but it's easily understandable given their location and the fact it's a Muni.

The course itself was nice and scenic. My brother and I really enjoyed the game. However, the man who checked us in was rude. My brother goes to play out there often and says they are very rude almost every time. We payed almost $100 to play a round so I'd expect at least a little decency from the staff.

This local course is the perfect example of what condition a Muny should be In. They have good course maintenance here.
Hello Alamo Golf Trails and Fort Sam golf.
The pro shop was very friendly and their starter permitted us to tee off early.
The tees and greens are in great condition. The fairways are clearly defined and they all grass and no weeds.
The renovation made this a classy shot makers course.
They will sneak up on you with holes two and four. There's water hidden at the end of both holes and it will jump up and grab you. No driver on hole two and no fairway wood on approach to hole number four.
The pace of play was just over four hours and this place was busy.
They have plenty of signs and neat tee box markers along with upgraded lavatories.
This is a neat place to play golf and should be on your list of local

Needs more trees for a nice shady spot for spectators/girlfriends sitting in the golf cart, but other than that it's great!

This course is really nice and fun to play. It's in the middle of NB and about 5 minutes from anywhere. The course is perfect with the difficulty and how it is laid out. It is a fun course for the beginner and still hard enough for the seasoned golfer.
The greens are the only thing I would say need to be worked on. For that reason and the fact that there wasn't a marshal out to speed up people taking 7-8 tee shots each is why I'm giving it a 4 and not a 5.
For the money though it was really a fun course to play, plus they have the snack cart that comes out which is nice to get a cold one and snack during the front or back 9.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tracy S.Austin, TX143Jan 1, 2022
Course has been in great shape lately. Typically busy, but pace is still good. Twilight rate is such a good deal too.

Love this course. The location, landscaping, and surroundings are beautiful. The comal river is beautiful and the course crosses it several times. There were baby deer running and playing around the entire area. We also ran into ducklings a couple times too. There are a few par 5 holes that get a little challenging. Bathrooms were nice and clean. We even stopped by a hole right across from the river and jumped in for a few minutes.

Cool course, deer everywhere. Great layout and fun way to spend the day. Only downside is there is no driving range, but still great time!

This course is in great condition and really fun to play. I participated in one of the 2 man scramble tournaments back in July and had a blast. My only suggestion at this point is to fix the website as whenever I try to look at the schedule of events it only shows the current/most recent. Also, create a way to sign up online for the tournaments year round and maybe offer discounts to those that repeat tournaments in the same year.
