Is there a place to park?

      A:

You will have to use a municipal parking garage across the street. It's $3/hour usually, but could be more at times.

This place was amazing!!! Even though we waited in line it move very quickly and the staff was very attentive while we waited. The GM greeted us while in line, passed out menus and prepared a section for our large party. The food was amazing, unfortunately I forgot to take pics before we started eating. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion!!!

This spot lives up to the hype, for sure. Everything looks, smells, and tastes amazing. It's always very busy, but the line moves fairly quickly and the place has a cool vibe with good music selection (at least the playlist they had on when we were there). The coffee is fresh, and the pastries are simply delicious. The breakfast sandwiches and Benedicts are really good, too. Tasty pork, runny yolks!

The only slightly funny / perhaps negative thing that happened was that my mother in law didn't want anything with beans in it, which she expressed to the lady taking her order, so she ordered her dish with a salad as the side, but then the salad had beans in it. Lol.

Highly recommend and looking forward to eating there if I'm ever in town again.

I found La Panaderia using Yelp. La Panaderia is/was sponsored and came up as Yelp's "first" recommendation. So I thought I'd support both Yelp and the restaurant.

La Panaderia is a VICTIM of it's own success. The food was delicious, they had a wide assortment of choices, the portions and prices were very good.

However the place was completely full of diners. They had a long line of waiting customers running through the restaurant, outside the door and around the corner. This was on a rainy Wednesday morning in May-nothing extraordinary going on in San Antonio. The restaurant had the feel of standing in line at the airport TSA, Dept. of motor vehicles or for the subway.

The staff were courteous and the patrons well behaved but the restaurant was completely overwhelmed. I was alone but had to take a four person table as it was the only available seating. Immediately next to me was the street windows and the line of patrons waiting to get in. I felt like I had a crowd watching my every bite. The background music and running conversations were loud. I finished my meal and left as quickly as I could. Great food, nice presentation and friendly staff; this review should have been five stars. Totally a victim of their own success!

If what I experienced is typically of their business then they should all be able to retire comfortably in about six months-this place was absolutely SLAMMED with customers. Nothing really negative happened during my visit, it just wasn't my scene. I would still recommend you check it out. However have an alternative plan for dining out if you see the line to get in spilling out the front door. Good luck!

Wow. This place was a great find. We were looking for something for a nice sit down place to fuel up.

There was a line out the door which we hoped would be a good sign.... It moved pretty quickly, and they gave us menus before we even got inside so we had a chance to think before we got to the register.

The breads, and assorted pastries looked good. But we stuck to food on the menu.

We got two tortas (sandwiches, one veg and one with turkey and cheese) and the la Mexicana, which is served in a croissant.

The tortas came with a side and both the rice and lentils were tasty.

      The coffee was good too.

      Nice vegetarian options.

      I would definitely go back.

I am visiting San Antonio and La Panadería was close to my hotel so I decided to give it a try. Delicious! I had the avocado toast with a fried egg and bacon. I also had a hazelnut and vanilla latte. Both were great. There wasn't much of a line when I visited so I was able to quickly order and get a table. My food came out relatively quick and tasted great. Highly recommend!

Aesthetically this cafe and the pastry case is very lovely, but the taste fell really short of expectations.

We arrived around 9am on a Sunday and there was a small line inside at the counter but it moved quickly. By the time we left, the line was out the door. I would not wait in line for the breakfast we had.

The hot coffee ($4) was weak and not particularly good. There are no thermoses to refill or self-serve while you wait for your food to come out. We got the scrambled eggs-your-way which came on the spiral croissant. For $13 it was edible, but not great. The ham was sliced thin like it came from shaved deli meat. The bean soup had large chunks of pork/bacon in it which were very tasty. We also got a chocolate croissant ($4.50) to go and it was also mediocre. Both pastries were very dense and chewy rather than flaky and the chocolate tasted like clumps of melted Hershey kisses.

      Three words: Tequila Almond Croissant.
Forces you to rebase everything you know, nay, expected, onto a new reality. Get. Some. 6/5.

Thank you, Rudy, for making these baked goods available outside through the cart so that I could jump out and experience that croissant without having to park somewhere. The hubby did a loop around while I got away with getting the almond croissant (6/5!), ham and cheese jalapeno croissant (4.5/5), and donut (3/5). Going back tomorrow to get the tres leches croissant and the Nutella concha per the reviews.

We came here on 02.17.24 with another couple for lunch - none of us had been here before. The line was long but moved quickly - whatever system they have, it works. The line was moving so well I wondered how rushed we would be after being seated.

My woman ordered a Tres Leches croissant while in line by the pastries and breads. Once you clear that, you arrive at the register where your order is taken and you are given a number. My beautiful date opted for the Clásico Torta with a side of fideo, and I opted for the Vegetarian Torta (eggs added) and fideo. The girl at the register suggested getting the eggs a little runny so I asked for them over medium.

The croissant was good, but my heart was in it for the torta. When our food arrived, we all went silent and I heard a lot of noises consistent with people enjoying their meals.

I only encountered one problem when slicing my sandwich - hard bread and runny eggs do not pair up nicely for this task. My sandwich turned into a bit of a mess. The first half was that piece of food you can't put down once you pick it up or else, but damn, was it delicious! I loved the touch of the jalapeños. The second half I ate as an open face sandwich and just used a fork on what was between the bread.

As for the fideo - I asked my woman not to compare theirs to the one I make at home, and thankfully she didn't. Theirs was good, and slightly different than any I have ever had because of their use of zucchini and carrots.

I also had some of the Clásico my date ordered, and the taste was sensational!

This place does a great job of combining traditional Mexican offerings with some local flair. Kielbasa sausage (lots of local German, Czech, and Polish heritage) in a Cuban sandwich? Nicely played, and something to be tried next time.

For the quality of the food and the hospitality (we weren't rushed at all), five stars and then some! We can't wait to come back.

This is a really great bakery near the Riverwalk. I saw the advertisements and I usually stay away from the super commercial places because they might be a tourist trap, but not this place. There's almost always a line and they have nice things like heaters outside if it's cold, and readily available menus. Everyone helps each other out here passing out menus, holding the door etc... I would say in general, the people are very cordial in San Antonio. So when you enter, you can see a TON of people ordering. There are so many choices that the line can slow down. In fact, they should have 2 registers going - one for people ordering to dine in and another for take out.

There is a bewildering amount of pastries here. Warning, most of them will make crumbs! Some of them are topped with an awesome sugar "shell" and will make a mess. But it's darn good. There's a round pastry that everyone goes nuts over and it does taste great! There's literally everything here. Breakfast, brunch, champagne, orange juice, coffee. I noticed they give coffee out to the homeless which is a nice thing.

The service is very efficient except for the backlog at the register - which is your typical "ask me for more tip" register.

All in all, one of the best places here. One tip, it's easy to go overboard with the toppings/extras when getting the avocado bread. Everything they make is great here including the bread. Do not top it with too much stuff like I did.

This is a top flight bakery and yes I did stuff some in my backpack for the flight home!!!!!

Finally tried going inside the downtown location. It's beautiful and has soooo many tasty treats inside! In the past I've got sandwiches, which were all delicious, but this time I got a bowl! It was like a neverending bowl of deliciousness that I was happy never ended. The bread it comes with was super tasty, too... I think some sort of cranberry.
I also got a regular black coffee which was surprisingly good, too.
If you're downtown and walking around, definitely check them out. Get lunch here, then maybe drinks along the Riverwalk ;)
