Avoid this place at all cost. We ordered 3 well done carne asadas and not only was the meat red, the beans were also bad and smelled terrible. We called the place and we were only told to call back in an hour. This place has definitely gone down over the years. Save your money, there are better restaurants near by.

Still the best place to get a $5 margarita, pork and cheese pupusas, nachos, enchiladas... You name it. Its always so good! This is a true neighborhood place and I've been visiting forever. Like we come so much that people ask me where my mom is when I come alone. We love this place, La Cabana es mi familia!

The food here is legit. portions are large! The meat was flavorful. And, the server was great. We were in a huge rush and she expedited our Plates.
If u don't want to wait an hour for a taco at tacqueria habanero, come here!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Steff S.Washington, DC723031Mar 18, 2018
I got the ceviche mixto, a mango margarita, and the pupusa. My friends got the fajitas, quesadilla, and enchiladas. Everything was delicious.

La Cabana Restaurante has probably good food and service but as a neighbor, and especially after yesterday's night unbelievably loud party, I can say that I absolutely HATE this place. Very loud and with very rude and disrespectful costumers that just didn't care about the neighborhood's peace. Definitely calling the police next time.

I've ordered take out from here numerous times as it's really close to my office, but the convenience of the location is the biggest reason I keep going back.
The food is hit or miss, which is not to say that there are certain items to choose to avoid, but that even things I enjoyed one day can be totally off the next. They do give you a lot of food to the point that it's almost too much meat sometimes. I am a huge fan of their chips and guacamole which are both homemade, fresh, and delicious. The rice on all of their plates tends to be a smidge too salty.
One annoyance for me is that because the owners and employees are Salvadorian it can be very difficult to place an order over the phone in English. There are people there that speak English, but I have been hung up several times when trying to place an order over the phone. I do wish that my Spanish weren't so rudimentary, and I certainly don't think they owe it to me to speak the same language, but it has made it a little difficult to order or ask questions about things from time to time.
I'm sure I'll continue to order from here as long as my office is on this block, but doubt I'll come searching for it after that.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Wesley T.Verona, NJ15927934Aug 8, 2014
Service was great. Music was too loud. Reminded me of so many Latin spots back home. Revuelta pupusa was the best I've ever had. It alone earned this review an extra star.
The meat in general was under seasoned and tough. The sausage was a bit too salty.
I would go back but only for pupusasHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jack F.Dallas, TX5571051832Apr 9, 2009First to Review
This Latin American restaurant belongs to the same group that runs Las Placitas on 8th St SE and La Villa on 14th NW. Tucked away in the upper Tivoli neighborhood (north of Columbia Heights), La Cabana is largely an unknown venue to the general public. The clientele is predominately local Latinos but that doesn't mean that the food is more authentic. La Cabana functions more as a late night social gathering with Karaoke. There's no reason to venture this far for Latin American but La Cabana is a great late night option by default after last call at the Red Derby. I recommend the El Tipico ($7.95), which includes a chicken tamale, pupusa, plantain, yuca, salad, beans and rice, as the best value. [Original Visit: March 13, 2009]

La Cabana is a hole-in-the wall catering primarily to Latin American immigrants, especially those from El Salvador. Some friends took us here one night after a late night bar crawl. We danced, we ate, we drank. The food was great and the drinks were strong. I particularly enjoyed their pupusas and a spicey cabbage dish they served as a side. I could eat that all night. During the daytime they're not very busy. At night it's absolutely nuts. Upstairs is a large party space for private events. It's very clean. The people are nice. It helps to speak a little Spanish here. In general the people are friendly and welcoming to all.
