You'd figure a jeweler in 1EC in the heart of the financial district would be a top notch, trustworthy jeweler. Figure again.
I had my engagement ring (which my husband bought from Blue Nile) sized at LLBrown and also fixed when a small side-stone fell out. They got it back to me promptly but it definitely looked a little off. After having to get it sized again and damaging it, we sent it back to Blue Nile as something didn't seem right.
According to the BN report, the person who sized it [LL Brown] used a different metal to sauter the ring, chipped some of the other small stones during the resizing process, and worst of all REPLACED the displaced side stone with a different quality stone!!
I am super bummed that I can't use LL Brown anymore as it is very convenient to my office, but I can't risk having any of my jewelry tampered with again.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah N.Alameda, CA1112Aug 7, 2009
I took in the promise ring my husband bought me to have it resized to fit my right hand so I could continue to wear it. I had previously taken the ring to Kay and they ruined it. They thinned the shank, bent the entire ring and it was a disaster. Two other jewelers told me the ring was ruined and unable to be fixed and I would have to build a new ring.
I took it into LL Brown since I have always had great service and begged Ken to fix the ring. He took down all of my notes on what it used to look like and told me he would do what he could. I went in this afternoon to pick up my ring and I AM SO HAPPY. The ring looks like the day it was purchased. They fixed everything that Kay ruined and you can't even tell.
I will always take my jewelry to LL Brown again.
Thank you Ken!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lena D.Newberg, OR3288Oct 8, 2009
I just left L L Brown with a check for my old stuff for $630.00. BOOYAH! So happy to have THAT in my bank account. Whew.
I was pretty worried about this whole deal because I have been confused about how this 'cash for gold' thing works. I had attempted two other places in the past but felt gypped so I never went through with it... but I saw the channel 5 news last night and thought that these guys seemed legit, and since I was in the FiDi for other stuff, I thought I would swing by.
When I got there with my (what turned out to be a little over 2 ounces of) 14k gold, Ken, the owner explained the evaluating process to me and answered all of my questions, telling me that my gold what my gold was worth and how much they would pay me. When I heard $630.00 I got skeptical of being gypped again, just like before.
I asked why , if gold is over $1000 per ounce I was getting $630.00. Ken explained that that the price for gold we read about in the news, etc. is for 24K pure gold. I was selling 14K which is equal to less than 60% pure. If you do the math, that would mean my 14K gold has only $585.00 worth of gold per ounce, not $1000 per ounce like the 24k gold.
They paid me a little over 50% which is the most I was offered out of all three of the places I went to. My other offers were from $400.00-$587.00. So the $630 was great!
I'm happy and it was a fun experience.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - .Hon H.Oakland, CA23013104May 24, 2013
When my MIL moved to assisted living, it fell upon me and my hon of hons husband to clear out her apartment of 20+ years. Among other items we found was a small cloth purse with several silver half dollars and dollars from the 1940's and 1960's. I recently came upon the purse in our junk drawer and did a bit of online research to try and determine the value. I brought them into LL Brown and was happily surprised by the price they paid.
The gentleman who waited on me was a little curt, but paid me in cash, so no big deal. I doubt I'd ever buy anything from their small selection of semiprecious jewelry that was displayed, but they served me well and I am a satisfied customer.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Patricia, Thank you for your comments. We have a selection of fine jewelry that is quite extensive. It includes Diamonds, Gem stones, pearls, rings, earrings, bracelets ,and pendants . the day you were in we were doing inventory and had most of our items in the safe. we regret we didn't,t make this clear. Once again thank you.

eew.
want to know how elegant and pristine their craftsmanship is? how polished and shiny they present their finished products?
well don't ask me. i spent less than a total of 5mins in here.
i came in with my brand new Nixon watch to get a couple of links removed....simple and easy enough. but their HORRIBLE customer service, cold demeanor and unseemly HI price tag ($25!!) sent me running out. Now youd think, on a dead Tuesday afternoon in a down economy, that the two gentlemen working there would put on their most courteous acts and eagerly assist a potential new customer. but....NO.
and id like to quote Jessica W. here:

The date of service was quite a while ago - August of 2007. It was a simple issue, I fell, the prong was bent, end of story. I found it strange that I was offered a credit at your store after I posted my Yelp review and wasn't sure if it was a real offer or just a ploy to get me to change my remarks. My intention was to bring in the email and come in person as a response to make sure it was not shady. I have 2 small children and cannot get into the City as often as I would like. It is inappropriate for you to try to discredit someone for not answering an email.

We have researched this and can't find the job. We don't recall any prong repair that was $200.00. It may be that more was involved and wasn't explained adequately. Repairs usually take 3-7 business days so taking a week is our protocol. We are sorry Emily is unhappy and have reached out to her with no response.
Sep 14, 2010Previous reviewWorst customer service ever! I fell outside of my office less than 6 months after getting engaged and bent a prong. I was heartbroken and wanted it fixed fast. Went to this shop based on a coworker's recommendation. The man who helped me was insensitive, rude, condescending and downright mean. I was WAY overcharged for this service as well - $200 to fix a prong and it took over a WEEK! It has been quite a while since the incident but every time I think about it my blood starts to boil. Agist, sexist, unfeeling, uncaring people should not be in the service industry.

I don't think these guys have ever seen a nice watch before. I brought my Omega in to have a bracelet put on. The guy took it to the back and came out after 5 minutes claiming he'd need 2 hours. OK. I came back after 2 hours and the dude was GONE. Bracelet was NOT on the watch. A pleasant older man returned my watch and unmounted bracelet. What a waste of time. On top of that, he somehow reversed the deployant clasp on the original strap so the watch doesn't sit right anymore. I only checked this place out because it was near my office. Now, off to find a real jeweler.

Kevin, We are truly sorry for your experience. If I were you I too would be disappointed. What happened is unfortunate and innocent. My staff did not communicate with me that your watch bracelet was not he right size for your watch and we didn't want to force it. When you came in I told what I thought were the facts. We apologize and hope you will give us a second chance.

I was really bummed when this chain that I have worn for almost 10 years straight (my mom had gotten in on the 16th birthday in the 60's, and she has passed since) broke. It was a really odd place, so I was really afraid that it was not going be able to get fixed. I just picked it up, and it is as good as new. It was in the date they said, and they even called to let me know that it was ready. I will definitely use again.

I have recently discovered this small jewel in SF and I don't want to share but I will anyway. Ken is the guy in the jewelry biz that KNOWS it all. He won't play around with pricing, what he quotes is exactly what it will be and you'll be pleasantly surprised how beautifully the pieces come out. His people do extremely good work. Just be honest with him about price and he will do the same.

I brought my watch into Macy's to replace a pin on the band which I had lost. They charged me $20 and put in a slightly mis-matched pin. This resulted in me nearly losing my watch a few weeks later when the pin failed and my watch fell off; lucky for me I noticed and caught it.
LL Brown spent the time to find me the exact replacement pin for the band, and charged me nothing. Same day service, professional, friendly, and reasonably priced! ;-) 5 star service!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
