Been to their sister restaurants in San Jose years ago, and was looking for a Thai restaurant for dinner with coworkers. Located in a large plaza next to Trader Joe's.
Seated next to the window which was great except constant gnats flying around. Yuck.
Service was great, our waitress was attentive with filling our waters as much as possible.
We ordered a veggie pad thai, chicken with eggplant/basil/garlic, and a yellow chicken curry. One of my biggest pet peeves is when food comes out in long spurts. The pad thai came out first, and it was pretty good, lots of veggies, wish there was actually more noodles. 10-15 minutes later, my chicken with veggies came out. It was tasty, plenty of flavors and good to veggie to chicken ratio. The yellow curry took another 15 minutes to come out, and it was very watery and oily. That was the least favorite dish for sure.
Overall, the food is standard, lots of options but the timing of the food put a damper on our experience.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 8, 2019
I really wanted to give this place 4 stars based on their food, but a sub-par service during back-to-back visits let my expectations down.
My coworkers rave about the food at Krung Thai, and even though the restaurant is 20 minutes away from my work, I decided to try them; for a second time.
We got there around 11:45AM (party of 5) and waited a good 4-5 minutes before being seated. The restaurant was not busy, and we could see the staff walking around. Since I had experienced this service before, I let it slide. However, once we were seated, we had to wait a good 10 minutes before someone took our order. The regular server was busy catering (and only catering) to a big party at a nearby table.
The guy manning the bar , who was also helping door-dashers, finally saw us waiting impatiently, and took our order.
The food was out in a reasonable time, and tasted pretty decent.
Their spicy levels are a little on the lower side, aka a medium spicy is more like a mild.
Serving size is a little less than what I'm used to, but is somewhat acceptable for the lunch menu prices.
Our check-out process was the fastest. Gratuity was already added to the bill for a party of 5.
Do i expect more, yes.
Food: Taste: 4/5 stars. Serving size: 3.5/5 stars
Location + ambiance: 4.5/5 stars (big parking lot + clean and nice interiors)
Service: 2.5/5 stars
Will i go back? unsure... maybe third time will be the charm.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 2019
Ahhhhh Krung Thai. How I have missed you. Even decades later I still measure all Thai food by the memory of my first tastes of your dishes when I was 18 years old.
I remember the original Krung Thai Restaurant in mid downtown San Jose - a tiny hole in the wall with only 12 tables probably. Now they are a chain of three restaurants.
I ate at the newest one, the Mountain View location tonight.
Having driven four hours and thought about their food many a time before probably skews my rating a little bit. Compared to the terrible Thai food in Redding, this is heaven. Real Thai Thai food. Not Lao-style Thai food.
I missed the two most unique dishes to Krung Thai:
Rama Tofu - a unique sweet green curry base with basil, eggplant and tofu; and Jun Pad Poo, their crab noodles.
Despite the beautiful presentation and plating, the Jun Pad Poo lacked some of the flavors of the original which had made it an instant favorite--it needed more garlic, a touch more sugar, and more spice and flavor. They even forgot to serve it with a wedge of lime. I promptly remedied all the above by asking for the ingredients, and voila!! I got back the original taste! Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
I'll have to come back of course. Planning my next vacation like the hopeless little foodie I am. . . Enjoy this place, you lucky folks who live close enough. I still dream of moving back after training. Just so I can eat at Krung Thai.
And in case any one wants to know, my favorite one of the three is the Original Krung Thai on Winchester. But truthfully any of them would be good. If you're close by, go and get these two dishes, and also the mango with sticky rice if in season. You won't be sorry!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jin F.Mountain View, CA1612540Nov 5, 2018
Tasty food and nice environment. Normally you don't have to wait in line. Though all dishes come with slightly smaller size than other Thai restaurants so you probably want to order more!
Almost tried everything at this place. Basically nothing could go wrong. Pad Ki Mao, Red Curry, Green Curry, Pad Thai... they are all great! However, I don't really like the seafood curry. The taste is a little bit dry.
I tried Thai Mike Tea, it's delicious too!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Jun 17, 2018
Went for Lunch on Sunday. Place wasn't busy and we were seated promptly. We ordered Chicken fried rice, egg fried rice , Penang fish and Red chicken curry. I have a feeling they served us both Penang as they both tasted exactly the same except that one has fish and other is chicken . Anyways not impressed with their food. We have had better Thai food.Overall it was a disappointing experience.

I'm new to the area so I decided to check out this place. I have to say that the food is much better than what we had back at home. The curry was very flavorful and just had the right amount of heat. There were lots of different ingredients in the curry (some of which I cannot identify but they tasted good). The meat was very tender and not overcooked like the place back home.
I also ordered a dish of Pad Thai to take for next day's lunch. However, I got curious and decided to have a taste and I was impressed. It had just the right amount of sweet, source, and saltiness. I don't know how they do it but the flavor was spot-on. I'm bookmarking this place and coming back anytime I have a craving for some Thai food.
As an aside, the place was very clean and nicely decorated. The staff was pleasant and kept my water glass filled. As it turned out, I didn't need that much water since my dish was not overly spicy. However, it was still nice to not have to flag down a waiter when you run out of water and your mouth is burning (which it wasn't during my visit here).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 6, 2016
My go-to Thai place near my house. Food is good, service is good, nothing to complain about. I usually get their fried rice, tomyum soup, noodles, rice plate. I highly recommend this place!
Bad thing is that it is pricier than other Thai places but hey it is Mountain View.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 21, 2016
Visite this place last week for lunch. I have been there earlier for dinner and my experience was totally different both times!
~ I love their Tofu Kee Mow! For lunch, they have specials and it comes as a platter. Soup, a dragon roll, two fried wontons, rice and curry. The platter is suitably priced to serve one. They generally have a vegetarian soup and last time when they did not have one, they made us one! Pretty impressed :)
~ For dinner, we had to order everything separately so tried to get everything from the lunch menu, it became pretty pricey! The place was relatively empty for a Sunday evening, I was amazed.
~ Their curries are flavorful, food fresh and the soup really tasty. The dragon rolls are really tiny but the sauce with it is really yummy. The servers are friendly and there is plenty of parking just outside the restaurant. Honestly, I would go back for their lunch specials, dinners may be!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christina T.Palo Alto, CA9012491833Jan 4, 2018
This place is okay. It's convenient because my boyfriend works out at the 24 near here so after he finishes working out he picks up food from here.
I just get the drunken noodles and honestly, I would only stick to this dish. I recently just got the Tom Kha and I would not recommend. LITERALLY my whole soup had SOOOOOO much lemon grass. I honestly don't think the soup is supposed to have like kabajillion amount of lemon grasses.
So disappointed.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 12, 2015
Note to self, don't let desperation for Thai Food lead you astray.
So I was craving Thai Food since I just came back from Boston where I binged on seafood all day, every day and spotted this place.
Oh man, wish I wouldn't have rushed into it.
Super salty and crappy garlic tasting eggplant beef. Give me some hot water to rinse off this mess. And the eggplant was so hard I couldn't slice it with my fork.
And my friends fish curry was just as bad. Cold fish in fact in a lukewarm curry.
Man, how I wish I was in Boston now.Helpful 22Thanks 0Love this 22Oh no 0
