This store has got to be the most depressing store I've ever stepped inside.
I'm quite certain that the building itself is original and there has been a grand total of zero dollars put into renovations and very little on upkeep.
The lighting makes it feel incredibly drab and I could actually feel myself becoming more and more depressed as I walked around. This place might as well be in the dead parts of Detroit. Add in the fact that there are empty shelves everywhere and it just gets worse. This is a perfect example of a company that most definitely won't be around next year.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Daniel C.Columbus, OH125361Feb 14, 2017
Only one lane open with 5 customers in the lane. A gentleman in a wheelchair who was struggling with his packages asked if another checkout could be opened, and employee said "Sir, you are the only person in line! It shouldn't be too much longer!"
The customer in front of me decided to apply for the Sears/Kmart credit card.... which takes a couple minutes, but the cashier didn't bother to call someone else up to assist with the now growing line.
I've worked for Kmart before (for several years) and understand that a lot of things are out of the store's control. Stores have to confirm to outrageous payroll demands and deal with high employee turnover, but this is stupid. There was three employees gossiping at the service desk. One of them can't jump on the register?Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 8, 2017
Was out looking for a specific Star Wars toy for Christmas and after trying various places, thought I'd come in here. They had zero Star Wars toys. I took the time to look around for something else to stop driving around and the prices were inflated. Had to walk the full length of the store to find an employee to ask a question, and she didn't know the answer.
Looked at some holiday gift sets but they were either over priced or cheaply made.
Went to buy a liter of Coke and it was more expensive as well then elsewhere.
Long lines during the holidays without opening additional lines and the cashier was really slow. Someone went out the front door and the security alarm went off but no one did anything. The cashier just watched the person walk out.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Kimberly P.Federal Way, WA5163144Aug 8, 2018
Watch out for their closing "blowout" sales!! For those of you that may be wanting to check out the Kent Kmart before it goes out of business, watch the prices!
I've never liked that location anyway, but after today I was reminded one reason why.
They won't honor the prices that are on the UPC labels on the actual shelves! Three of their items had price tags that were $2-$3 higher than the price on the shelf. The UPC matched and the manager and customer service clerk both agreed that they were the correct UPC but said "there were people that came in and did the labels and they should've removed the lower price one and changed to the higher price " ( eventhough that was the regular everyday price ).
I explained that they are legally bound by the state to honor whatever price they have on it even if it's in error on their behalf, but she said "they've told us we cannot do any price overrides at all since we are closing"; however there's a note taped to the registers saying they are to do overrides on returns of some sort.
It's evident what they have done. They've raised some prices then advertised the extra "blowout prices" as if you're getting a deal when in fact you're not!
I also have $30 in credit from their rewards program but because I cannot remember a password from when I enrolled years ago I cannot use my $30!
* they wouldn't give this toaster to me for the regular price marked on shelf plus the extra 20% off that's supposed to be. They had a whole extra endcap of the same ones prices at $9.99 plus 20% off which brings to its REGULAR price of $7.99
Now, $2 may not be a huge difference, but when you spend $150 at once and have four it or items that this happens to it sure adds up!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 2, 2014
One of the 'last' real Kmarts left in Washington.
I came here since we loss our Christmas tree and found one for cheap! Made in China. Hey, almost everything in this world is. Xie Xie
Lots of locals come here and that is good to keep this store going.
You'll find deals on stuff because it is a 'mart' store.
Staff are cool.
This location still has the classic Kmart feel to it and a little touch of Sears & Roebuck with their Craftsman and Kenmore products.
The only competition is Big Lots! around the area.
When you're in Kent or if you just moved here, feel free to show some support.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Stefanie H.Issaquah, WA1515017Oct 29, 2016
Am i surprised to see this location getting the low rating they have now? No. I'm not. Kmart has been a place i've been coming to for a very long time. I went to this location & Bellevue's location when it wasn't a vacant lot & then turned into Walmart. Kmart use to be the place for me. Now it's about time to put this place to rest.
Location, the lot size is way too big with no good shops around it & has the Goodwill outlet right next door. The parking lot attracts a lot of unwanted guests (drug dealers, crazy people) & has almost no cars in the parking lot besides the first i want to say 1-4 rows. No one shops here anymore. It's sad.
Kmart itself is not a pricey place & is quite affordable with sales that're constantly going on but just like outside in the parking lot, the place needs desperate renovations & a different market approach. Inside it's big but also crowded with stuff on the shelves, messy shelves. The place looks trashed inside sometimes. It's quite easy to find staff working on the floor but do they look friendly? No. One girl i talked to told me she doesn't get paid enough & has to work in every department & from my impression, overworked. I haven't seen her since then. Don't know if she got fired or walked out but i don't think Kmart really cares about its employees. Heck i don't think they care about themselves anymore, letting this location go to waste.
When i was shopping in here last time, i had to wait 15 minutes because someone in front of me ordered a bike & the lady would not let anyone else go through her line till they brought out the bike. I was in a hurry & i almost walked off & left before another employee came up & told her to let us through. Really bad customer service, no smiles. Just frowns & a drained look on many of their faces.
Their inventory isn't really big & most of the time when i'm looking for something, the shelves are bare. I see them stocking items constantly so don't know why the shelves are bare. I would shop here one day, come back in next week & they would still be bare. So i've been shopping across the street at Safeway.
Overall, i'm just going to ignore Kmart from now on. There's no point in going out of my way to a store that isn't up to date with reality & employee's look like they're hating their life. Kmart needs to be torn down & the lot needs something better to take its place with.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 26, 2014
The K here is for Krappy, definitely not for Klassy.
I just started a job nearby and thought I'd stop by here to maybe pick up some things to make my office more cozy. I thought it'd be like Target but a little less cool. It's not even in the same field as Target.
First of all, it was hot and stuffy in the store. Second of all, it looks like it was last restocked in the 80s. Third, it's not even properly lit, I felt like I was in a bad dream or something. Buy some lightbulbs and turn on the air conditioning. And fourth, the people who worked in the store knew nothing about what they sold or what was in stock or where to find anything.
Just as an example, I thought maybe I would find a little iPhone dock I could use to listen to music at my desk and keep my phone charged. In the electronics dept., there were a few docks that were unpackaged, marked down, and clearly missing their cords and accessories. I asked the employee if these were just the floor models, if they actually have them in stock new in their boxes, and he told me I could buy one and go to Radio Shack to buy the cord! Meanwhile, I pulled the same one up on my phone, and it was cheaper on Amazon.com, new in the box with the cord and everything. Errm, no thanks, KMart.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Brian O.Kent, WA03Jul 23, 2019
As a former employee, I have two words: Good riddance. The managers were jerks, the customers (when not shoplifting) were jerks. This was the worst place I ever had the displeasure of working at, and we are all better for not having it now.

Usually, I subscribe to the "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" theory. So sorry, but this store is pretty pathetic. Firstly, it looks like a prison from the outside... and sort of like that in the inside too.
The building is OLD, the decor is OLD and depressing. The shelves are always empty... with only a couple of any one item. Staff are hard to find. Place seems dark and scary.
Occasionally, I go in because of a sales flyer in the Sunday paper. When I get there, I either find the item to be inferior to what I expected, or they are out of it.
Now that they do not carry the Martha Stewart line (how did she ever hook up with K-Mart in the first place???) I really will never go back. It is sooo old and depressing, and never has the merchandise I want, as well as the old, dark, drity atmosphere creeping me out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kristy M.Seattle, WA12535Sep 24, 2016
Update: Went today to pick up a few items, stood in line to pay, cashier was ringing someone else up so I patiently waited only to be told a few minutes later he was closed. By that time the only other open lane was backed up.
I moved over and started waiting in the one open lane. I watched two more people walk up to the "closed" lane and watched the cashier, who was STILL ringing out a customer, totally ignore them until they had emptied their cart and basket and only then tell them he was closed. After I was finally able to finish my purchase and was leaving, the line was clear back toward Customer Service desk....and still only one lane while there were FIVE employees joking and standing around the customer service desk.
Told my mom about the cashier who kept turning people away and she said she saw him back by customer service asking for his lunch break. Apparently eating lunch is way more important then assisting customers. The dumbass wasn't even apologetic when he turned people away.
It's been all over the news that Kmarts are closing and, I for one, will be thrilled when this one closes. Prices are ridiculous and the customer service is just terrible. Although, the employees will already be trained to work at Walmart (another place notorious for horrible and rude service)
Horrible customer service. The employees won't make eye contact or are just flat out rude. And the cashiers are ridiculously slow.
Pros: Their clothes section is really nice and the parking lot is huge and they're rarely busy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
