9 reviews for Kelly's Square Pub
It is what it is eh? A local pub with an Italian influence in East Boston. Are you surprised? This place is a great place to grab a quick bite. Portions are pretty big, service is...well..it's a pub so don't expect top-notch white glove service here.
Overall it's a great spot. I'll be back.
Love it, wouldnt trade it for anything!
This neighborhood pub serves the best pizza in town! We decided to try this pub after several recommendations and have now claimed it as our new favorite spot! Very local flavor, great food and even better service. Ask for Paula to be your server and you will lack for nothing!
Kelly's has a great shrimp scampi pizza with a delicious sauce, although sometimes it can be a little too oily. But overall the food is pretty good. The portions are decent and i usually have left overs.
This is your neighborhood pub. Period. There is a bar area and that's where you want to sit, in the front of the place. The dining room in the back is ok, but not as much fun. There is a ton of boxing memorbilia on the wall, but now, let's talk the important stuff.
THE BEST FRIES AND BURGERS EVER. Steak tips are awesome as well. So is the Buffalo Wrap.
The waitresses are feisty in typcial Eastie fashion (I love them). I go here, well, uhm, maybe once every two weeks....it's just a really nice and friendly neighborhood place. Good place to watch games too. :)
Last Saturday I asked about the special: grilled chicken tortellini in alfredo sauce. My server said, "It's pretty big, but I think you'll like it." Always a fan of recommendations by the staff, I agreed.
Then the pasta arrived. Oh. My. Goodness.
This thing was a Bowl, with a capital "B." It was larger than my placemat. And it was completely full, just under an inch from the top edge. Full to the brim with chunks of chicken and tricolor tortellini and broccoli smothered in alfredo that no doubt contained the equivalent of my entire month of calories within its creamy, steaming, mouthwatering OCEAN of sauce.
I know you don't believe me. Just go. If you can finish that Mount St. Helen's VAT of food and still waddle out the door without getting sick on the sidewalk, let me know.
I myself felt completely guilty about eating for 20 minutes and not even seeing a dent in the first layer. Then I realized I could supply my friend with dinner for her and her two teenagers. For the next week. Problem solved!
My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try since it is down the street from where we live, we always pass it but never go inside. The place is small and cozy and the memorablia on the walls is great to look at plus all the celebrity photos when you walk in. This place very clean and organized which is great to see, good atmosphere as well and cheery waitresses. They have a bar area, booths along the opposite area of the bar and along the back wall, there is a wall seperating the bar and the booth area which is nice so that you can at least eat in piece. Plenty of tv's to watch the news/sports as well.
The menu has your typyical pub food steak tips, subs, calzones, pizza, pasta with also some pretty non pub food like the special rib eye steak and the frutti de mara which was 28 buckaroos! The appetizer menu was pretty long although we didnt order anything because the bread and oil that is located directly on the table was enough for us. The garlic oil is amazing I contemplated on stealing it and bringing it home with me! I ordered the single lamb serving which came to be medium the way i like it with yummy steak fries as well. My boyfriend ordered teh lamb and sausage combo, he likes it well done but it was a bit burnt as well. The portion was good for the price and the meat was tasty. The salad that comes with your dinner is a joke but hey its a pub and its decent enough, although dont get the raspberry vinagerette, unless you like dressing that is on the same page as maple syrup texture then go for it.
The serve was attentive as the girl that sat us did not give us menus and our waitress felt bad and apologized a couple of times. She was great on service and giving us amble amount of time to look over the menu and decide what we wanted, definitely was not treated like we needed to rush out the door like some places. Refills were offered and fresh bread was brought over when we requested which is a plus in my book.
Its an alright place to go and grab some pub food but I have had better and I would just rate this place as a 2 even though I had a good experience and the food was just ok. I could pay the same price and get better quality food somewhere else which is what I prefer.
A solid 4 stars for Kelly's. Fresh food, good portions, clean. East Boston ambience for sure. Good cold Bud on tap. Park in back if you can find a space.
Cheap prices, and huge portions. Best bargins too. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 2 meals for $16 (with more than 5 options to choose from, a salad, and a ton of bread) and Wednesdays are also $4 pizza night (any large pizza for $4!). The seafood isn't great, but everything else I've tried is delicious, and there's always so much that you can save the leftovers for another dinner the next day!
