very friendly and super quick. good quality dishes and the Rendang was the fave.
A fun stop full of locals who know the real Indonesian flavors.
The service was courteous and quick.
The house cocktails were tasty and we made another quick stop for some takeaway a day later.
Should be on your Amsterdam list of places to eat.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 31, 2023
Food, Flavor & Taste: 3.5/5
Ambiance: Casual-Fine (nice decor)
Value: 3/5
Service: 5/5
Critical, but honest review. It's decent Indonesian food.
Taste feels catered more towards a westernized palette. I've been all over SE Asia so have had Indonesian food in Indonesia, Singapore, etc. and it's not as authentic as I would hope it to be.
Would come back if I'm craving Indonesian food.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rudy T.Reno, NV014Apr 16, 2024
I do not recommend this restaurant at all! There are much better Indonesian restaurants out there in Amsterdam. Please don't go here. This restaurant has many flaws. First, they are way over priced for what you are getting. Portion is very very small. Too pricey with very small portion of food. For example, cassava crackers cost 5.50 euros and there were only 10 pieces of crackers. Another example, their sayur lodeh costs 9.50 euros and comes in a very small bowl with mostly cabbages. It didn't even taste like sayur lodeh. That's just insane and robbery. Second, the quality of food is very average. I have an Indonesian palate and I know what excellent Indonesian food should taste like. This restaurant is far from being good. Definitely not authentic Indonesian. I alluded to the example of sayur lodeh previously. The taste was just horrible. Third, the service was very sub-par. It took a long time for food and the check to come.
Overall, I do not recommend this restaurant. Not worth it. You will get disappointed after you dinner. Guaranteed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kelli H.Irvine, CA42338Jan 15, 2024
Service was great. The food was delicious. They were good about making reservations over email and accommodating a last minute reservation for 9. Everyone was great. The recommendations were superb. All the things we ate were really good. I would definitely eat here again and recommend anyone going to Ams to check it out too.

Service was crap. Waited 50 minutes for rice and noodle. Was cold and no flavor. Go anywhere else!!!

The restaurant is the highlight of our trip in Amsterdam. We felt the cooking is so flavorful and authentic. They serve Indonesian cuisine. We ordered a food samplers that feed 3-4 but 2 of us finished it all. Check out our before and after photos

I decided to take my family here after I saw some of the yelp reviews for Indonesian food being really good here. They did not disappoint. Not only was the food great, the service was really good. But you definitely need to reserve ahead of time or call because it is really busy but they turn the tables really quickly. Definitely need to reserve if it's for more people.

First time having Indonesian food with a friend from Indonesia. The food was delicious, great choices, terrific drinks, and friendly staff. My friend says the food is very authentic and about a close as you can get to dining in Indonesia. If highly recommend dinner here.

Wow! This place was incredible! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun. We got a bunch of tapas to share. At first we thought it was too much food, but then we finished it quickly and ordered more. I would definitely recommend.

Kantjil & de Tijger is centrally located in Amsterdam, in what most people term the 'red light district'.
Food: There was two of us, and we opted to create our own rijsttafel, vs ordering the offered curated option on the menu. The beef rendang is a must - a rich and dense curry, the beef was in tender, fall apart chunks. Only nit was the bowl it was served in was akin to a tiny rice bowl, and really not enough for two to share. We ordered a second beef rendang :-) Sweet and sour pork was curious as they were bbq pork ribs with ketchup/tomato sauce served on the side. Fried rice was literally fried, flavored rice. There are no options to add a protein. Lumpia as a starter was delicious.
Service: Greeted at the door and seated quickly at about 7:30pm. Our section had one waitress staffing quite a few tables, so it wasn't as efficient as it could have been. Food comes out in decent time.
Cost: About €55 for all that we had.
Overall: Decent food, easy to get to, takes cards.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
