Definitely find this place during the day, it's up a steep hill and the signage isn't big or highly lit. It's up a steep hill that's one car lane wide but for both ways. There was coffee cake for afternoon tea when I got there. The porch is the best part of this place. It overlooks the mountain with a great view of the water and forests below. Breakfast was nice since it came with avocado, cut papaya, a piece of breakfast cake and smoothie as well as tea/coffee. I did like meeting the geckos that look like the GEICO gecko during breakfast who were wanting fruit.
Cons: there's no AC. Also I was woken up by I think a rooster at 5 am. They do try to space out people getting breakfast so you can't rush in at 730 am for food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kayla E.Brooklyn, NY043Mar 11, 2024
Beautiful ground, delicious breakfast. We stayed in the mountain room, which was comfortable. Outdoor lava showers were a great experience. Overall highly recommend

One of the best places to stay on the Big Island. Michael and Greg along with Hannah and the staff are amazing. Vista views, friendly hosts and clean & quaint rooms. The property is in the Captain Cook area of the Big Island and there are lots of amazing places to eat just around the corner. We've stayed here 3 times and can't wait to get back there again. I now plan my trips based on when I can get a room there and then I plan the rest of my vacation. Bottom line - it's just a wonderful place to call your island home. Afternoon treats and an amazing morning breakfast to get your day started.

From personal experience, I highly advise coming when it's still day outside. Trust me on this one. I drove up and down Napoopoo Rd due to a delayed flight and was close to having a full on panic attack. Roads are severely dark that you cannot differentiate between driving/reversing onto road or out to sea *yikes*.
Once you finally arrive at your destination, keep on driving up the hill until you reach the end. Don't forget, it is crazy dark outside, don't be alarmed by the sounds of nature. You'll park to the side next to the other 4 cars by the garage (not into it) and quietly find directions on a pin with your name on it. Come quietly inside as you make your way to the room.
If you survive the night (which, you will), you'll find yourself on what looks like heaven; beautiful oceanview windows overlooking the bay. When you come down, you'll be greeted by the sweetest angel, Hannah. You'll find her in the kitchen in the morning making an all you can eat breakfast. Don't be rude! Say hello, grab a coffee, make your way to the patio and find a table. Hannah will let you know when all is ready based on first-out on the patio. When asked what was my favorite meal in Hawaii, hands down, I say Hannah's breakfast. She made delicious Banana Nut Waffles topped with macadamia nuts tossed in coconut oil and syrup. In addition, she's boiled eggs, cooked turkey bacon, and has sliced up fresh tropical fruits. Don't forget to try her freshly made smoothies made with guava YUMMMM!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chuanfeng Y.SeaTac, WA61024Aug 27, 2023
This is my second time to big island. We have 5 persons including a toddler. We are so glad we select this one to stay 4 nights. The location is convenient if you do not want to change hotels and want to visit both Kona and Hilo. The staff are nice and professional. Greg help us figure out the best rooms and make the reservation. The communication is smooth. Hannah prepare delicious breakfast everyday including fresh fruits. The view is also awesome. We can have our breakfast while see the sea and bay. We live at Loa suite and it is great. We will definitely come back if we visit big island again and highly recommend it.

This place is special in all the best ways - my wife and I really appreciated staying here two nights to begin our big island trip. The location is on the lower slopes of Mauna Loa with a peek of Kealakekua Bay. Once we arrived, Hannah hostess of the mostest greeted us and showed us around. She had just finished baking triple chocolate macadamia nut brownies which we took a second helping and the recipe. The grounds have multiple fruit trees, a swing, lawn chairs, and hot tub with the sunset ocean view. The breakfasts on the veranda were amazing with lots of fresh fruit, smoothies, eggs, bread and jams, and geckos for company. We enjoyed using the large kitchen to cut fruit and salad. There are also all sorts of beach equipment to use like chairs, towels and boogie boards, outdoor rock showers, and exercise mats to do Pilates among the chickens.
The house takes covid precautions and practices social distancing, and we still got to know many of our fellow travelers. Combined with Hannah's warmth, and the owners Greg and Mike's helpfulness, we really felt aloha.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 22, 2020
I am noticing a lot of stellar reviews here so I need to get this incident out so you all have some balanced perspective.
If you are thinking of booking a stay here, they could cancel on you at a moments notice, in my case 3 days before my reservation, AFTER they confirmed and sent me my deposit receipt. They also only have 5-6 rooms total so if a pipe breaks, tough luck they will cancel on you.
The b&b owner Greg was all Aloha and mahalo up until it was no longer convenient for him. Booked 2 nights stay on Nov 14. Got a confirmation email with deposit receipt same day with welcome letter.
Fast forward to Friday Nov 20 (3 days before my arrival) and I receive an email from Greg, informing me that he had to cancel my reservation due to issues with one of the rooms. He offered me another nearby B&B, which was frankly not as nice as the plantation. No call, just an email.
I'm on the road so of course I can't check emails all the time.
On Sunday, I notice his email and called him back right away. This was precisely when he went full bezerk on me.
His first accusation was " who doesn't check their email for 3 days" and that "my cell wasn't a US number so he couldn't call me". Lies. I checked my hotels.com booking and my 917 number was front and center.
He then went on with his monologue, claiming that he was just trying to help me out but there's nothing he can do and its not his fault that the toilet pipe is broken.
I had to exercise my Kamala Harris moment to squeeze in "Greg, let me speak" because he kept talking over me.
I don't say this lightly but this was the worst customer service experience coming from a b&b, especially when they're in the wrong!
In hindsight, I am glad I don't need to stay at this horrible place and deal with his negative energy.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 315191184Aug 28, 2018
My wife, two sons (12 yrs, 10 yrs.), and I enjoyed our 3 night stay here in August. The views of Kealakekua Bay from the back porch are stunning. A major highlight was the Kona coffee (grown on the plantation) and delicious breakfasts with fresh fruit (papaya, lilikoi, watermelon) as well as eggs, pancakes, or quiche. We especially loved the sweetbread!
Hannah greeted us at check-in and made us feel at home. Michael, Greg, and Hannah provided helpful tips about beaches and activities. They have a lot of information and made this B&B a special place. We stayed in the Ka'awa Loa Suite on the main floor, which has a spacious, private bathroom with shower. The sound of coqui frogs at night was pleasant. However, there's no air conditioning.
The B&B provides beach towels and chairs for guests. A few snorkeling masks were available, but it may be better to rent equipment in town. If you need to wash clothes, the B&B allows you to run a load for only $10. Overall, this was a delightful and peaceful place to stay on the west side of the Big Island!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Susan M.Hilo, HI01Jan 25, 2023
We love this place and have returned many times. Beautiful accommodation, delicious breakfast, gorgeous views, and most of all, lovely kind hosts. The outdoor showers are a treat.
