Seriously Jane is probably the most talented person I know. She can do anything artistic: watercolor, painting. sewing, making her own fabric, etc... I hope I'm someday as good at my day job as Jane is at sewing. She is a great teacher and her classes are so much fun. She is Great!

Jane Foster is an amazing teacher for sewing lessons. She has a broad background and offers a variety of teachings:
1. Sewing Labs -- Choose your own project and sit with 4-5 other students who also work on their own projects. Bring your machine and supplies (although ask if she has a machine to lend!). Jane has a large studio in which there are plenty of tables to work while she spends time with each individual to see what help they might need.
2. Private Lessons -- Again choose your own project and work with her to create.
3. Vacation workshops -- Jane picks a pattern, you pick your materials. Then, meet her in Monterrey, CA for this educational vacation.
The Sewing Machine Shop (Walnut Creek, CA) recommended her as a wonderful tutor to learn from. Jane has a large workshop in her backyard with several tables, wonderful irons and steamers, and a generous space to work. She is very patient and can teach many different subjects: beginning sewing, customizing a pattern to fit you, customizing a pattern to add your own flair, etc.
My sister and I were beginner sewers who didn't have the patience to learn from Mom or the patience to learn with a standard pattern with a class at Joanns. Jane was awesome in that she was very patient, knowledgeable, and let us pick our own projects out. Then, she gave us tips and tricks of the trade as she navigated us through learning how to make our projects. (Tip #1 I learned -- don't bother cutting the paper pattern out perfectly. Just cut it enough to lay out on fabric. Time savings!)
I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn to sew.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Liz M.Martinez, CA15353Sep 23, 2010First to Review

Called to take a sewing course and spoke with Ms Foster--who seemed annoyed that I had called and bothered her. She basically told me she has all the students she needs and would call me if something opened up--but not to get my hopes up. That was over a year ago. Have left a few messages to check in but have received no response. Very disappointing. Good for her but maybe it is time she removes her web and yelp page if she doesn't want new students.

Jane is the best; knowledgeable, creative, inspirational, and truly supportive. There is no place that I would rather be than in class on Wednesday mornings. All skill levels are comfortable in her classes. She brings out the best in everyone.
