Unfortunately this lead ended of being a disaster. This review doesn't even deserve 1 star. I had been in contact with Shabnam about bringing her henna tattoo service to a party I was hosting for my 10 yr old daughter and 14 of her friends. She responded quickly. However, once she emailed the contract, I notice that the agreement was binding between she and someone else. No worries, I realize this type of thing happens in form documents regularly. This was the day before the event, so I picked up the phone to let her know. She seemed unsure about my request to modify the contract so that it would be correct. She told me that she would TRY to see if she could modify and resend.
Several hours went by. She sent me a text msg stating that she couldn't modify and that she was sorry this did not work out. I am thinking, "wait what?" I was simply just trying to protect us both. But before you just all together back out, let's agree to both sign an amended printout instead. She never replied. I emailed, text and called her to tr to reconcile the fact that I had lost a huge portion of my entertainment for a party that was to take place in less than 12 hours. Still dead silence. She did not even have he decency to apologize. I told her that I would write this review and unfortunately express my displeasure in hopes to prevent this from happening to someone else.
As a last, desperate resort, I put an ad out on Thumbtack. I got a response in about 2 hours. Henna by Abeer, is the way to go. Professional, quality and prompt for the right price. She saved my efforts to create a great party for my daughter. Now SHE gets the 5 stars and I highly recommend her. Fun experience. Very nice people. I had not realized that we were traveling to someones home..... anyway, we arrived unannounced and were welcomed within a few minutes - I'm sure it would have been preferred if we called in advance. We had three small tats done for $24. See pic loaded (with three arms.)

Eight days later, my henna is beautifully faded but still an intake work of art! See photos! Mind you, I wore gloves for wet stuff like dishes and had weird showers for a couple days.around the fifth day my fingertips were fading and I resigned myself to allow it to happen. It is fading with beauty. It persists like a reluctant friend waving as the train pulls off. Loved this henna! Thanks Shebnam!

I'm sorry but I asked you to park in the garage CONNECTED TO MY BUILDING and offered an escort. Anyone reading your exchanges with customers on yelp will certainly see your lack of professionalism. Yes, I did make you wipe my henna off because YOU misrepresented your work and sent me pictures saying they were yours but you couldn't replicate them because it was NOT your work!! I have never sent a client someone else's work and claimed it as my own. That is plagiarism and infringing on someone else's intellectual property.
Please note that I had sent multiple texts to confirm the time, but SHE accepted another client and showed up TWO hours late!! This is crazy.
Also if living in Chinatown at 460 L street NW is considered a "not great area", you must be off your rocker lady. We lived in the building above Safeway!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

We exchange 27 emails 53 text & 16 phone calls. I do not feel I should apologies if it got little confusing for me because each conversation things were changing. Since you are not in the best part of DC from the first method of communication my only requirement was Please Provide me with parking, on the night of the event you said park 2 blocks down..! I did not feel comfortable walking 2 blocks, 11.00 pm at night . I charged you $75 dollars for both hands front & back including feet. As you remember once I was done with the design you made me wipe it off completely twice. I am sorry if you feel you did not had a good experience. I try my best to please customers like you. Sometimes some people are just not happy no matter what you do.
Apr 29, 2012Previous reviewIf I could give no stars for this, I would.
To say that she is not only a terrible artist, she is completely unprofessional and OVER CHARGES for subpar work.
I used to be a henna artist in Chicago where there was far more competition (so quality was essential) and pricing was more competitive. Henna should cost between $75-100 per hour (2hr min at parties) and the quality of work should be quite good for this price.
First, I negotiated a price for my date with her and she agreed to come to me. After paying a security deposit and emailing her several times to confirm, she texted me two hours before she was supposed to be at my place saying she would see me soon. I responded thanking her. Then less than an hour before she was to come, SHE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THAT I HAD TOLD HER IT WAS NOT TODAY BUT THE NEXT DAY. I told her that was incorrect and she said she had a bride in front of her that she now has to do and she would come after she was done. I had a 7:30 appt and she came at 9:00. She had kept saying she was hoping it wouldnt be past ten when she got there... I had to be up at 6 am and was exhausted.
After she finally got to my place, I told her to park in the paid garage next door to or building and we would pay for it. She said no, she didn't want to because she's going to get towed. After all of this, my fiancé offered to help her park and walk her to and from her car--- she said she was just going to leave!!!! To say she is totally rude and unprofessional would not do justice to describe her.
If all of that was not so bad, her artistry is really bad. She overcharges for her capabilities and isn't even pleasant to do business with. Honestly, having been in tr business quite a while, I would value her work at somewhere around $35/hr and that's more for her effort and time.
I had sent her a picture of work that I had done on myself that I wanted her to replicate (an exact copy is not possible, but something close would be sufficient) and it looked NOTHING like it-- I think my three year old niece could have done better--- and I feel bad saying that about something that she cannot change.
If you are asking her for pictures, look closely. I went back and looked after she left since I chose her based on the pics she sent--- they ARE NOT HER WORK! She photoshops her pictures... If you look closely, you can see that they are stolen and she has just photoshopped the owners name out of the picture.
Also, I've never myself or seen other artists not send Pre and post care instructions. For example, you cannot wax or get a mani after getting henna, it can ruin the integrity of the stain.
At the end of all this, she was rude, unapologetic, and unprofessional. If you are looking for quality work or even some reliability, this is not the person to use.
If she really is the best in the area, I'm considering picking up my business again and offer quality mehendi at reasonable prices because the DC area clearly needs someone to offer that. Haven't decided yet, but I can't imagine I'm the only one this disappointed.
If you want to see pics of what I asked for vs what she did, please email me at veenap818 at gmail.
The only good thing I can say about her is that the mehendi is great quality and leaves a great stain, but the work is so bad I can't wait for this stain to disappear. - Julisa E.Absecon, NJ01Oct 17, 2016
Wish it was possible to give zero stars!! I contacted this business to come out to my friends hotel room as we were having a slumber party there for her birthday! The person I spoke to started off really sweet and assured me they were available to come out that evening to work on about 7 women doing a simple design! This person sent me a contract to sign and everything I pay paled her on good faith a $45 deposit which I would I would have done through goods and services but because they do not want to be charged any fees they suggested that I did it friends and family!
She sent me a confirmation email and told me the best way to contact her is through email ok we'll I have your phone number so why email that was red flag number 2 after the sending the money friends and family situation. Needless to say the day of my event a random number texts me and says I'm here. I had my friend who was in the hotel room call her right away to give her instruction on how to get into the room. But she texts me and say that my friends refused to give her the room number which was a lie because I seen the text that said otherwise! She then send me a nasty text that says thank you for wasting my time and gas!!
Come to find out lobby staff says no one had ever come into the hotel! I was ripped off and after texting her to ask for a refund she has ignored me and because I pay paled her through friends and family I am out of $45! Do not trust this business it is unprofessional and she was a complete bitch to me!
Hopefully she doesn't rip anyone else off or disrespect them as she did to me!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nicole G.Alexandria, VA573721265Aug 29, 2011
I LOVE getting henna tattoos and do every chance that I get! She came to the West End Farmers Market on August 7 as part of National Farmers Market week and was totally a hit! She did a really great job and at only $5 a person, you can't ask for more. Excited that she's coming back on Sunday, September 11.

I wish it were possible to rate without a star. Do not trust this business. I told the lady that I was coming with my niece. Told her I'd be there in an hour. 45 minutes later, texted her that I'd be there in 7 minutes. She text mgs that she was going to a party. I had already purchased two deals. She didn't care and told me that she didn't know how I would get my money back. Called her the next day and left several messages and text messages. She responded at 3 that afternoon and said that she was busy. Told me to Leave my schedule for the week and she'll see what she could do. I wasn't even a priority. Yelp gave me a refund. Be careful and don't buy the coupon until you are right in front of her. I wouldn't trust that she would care about your design.

This was my first time getting henna tattoos, and I was not disappointed. She gave me a beautiful tattoo on my back/neck and on my hand/wrist. I received compliments for days.
I am not too familiar with henna so I am not sure if she provides the cheapest rate, but I am on a student budget, and I think she provides a fair price.
She is very sweet, and her appointment schedule seems quite flexible.
I would definitely recommend her to everyone, and I plan on going back for more.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - N M.Suffolk, VA173274Aug 22, 2014
Shebnam did an awesome job. She operates a home based business. This is not a salon, but she's wonderfully professional and I love my design. Just make sure that you park in an unmarked spot across the street. I would definitely be back.

First I'd like to say that I was very pleased with the tattoo, and received lots of compliments on it. I would have been happy to return and to refer people if I didn't feel that this is a shady business and people are not treated with respect here.
This is a woman and her husband who do this out of their condo. You don't know this until you get there. When I arrived it seemed that I was interrupting her day. She wanted me to remove my shoes in her home, and I was more than happy to honor this custom in her home even though the floor was dirty. I was not given any pre-instructions or post care instructions for the tattoo, and when I asked how to care for the tattoo afterwards it was obvious that she was ready for me to leave, telling me that my car would be towed if I hadn't parked in the correct space. My car wasn't towed - but it seems like she could have mentioned the parking issue when I arrived, not after I had been there for 30 minutes (IF that !) There were no 'do not park here' or 'parking for residents only' etc signs where I parked.
This was my first yelp deal purchase, and I didn't realize that my credit card was charged for it - thought I just had to show the coupon to get the discount when I paid. After she was done with the tattoo I paid her (and also gave her a tip, despite her attitude that I was inconveniencing her .) She took the money and didn't say anything. The next day when I realized that my card had been charged and she had been paid twice, I emailed and asked if I could return to get another tattoo at a later date at regular price and have the payment I'd all ready made applied rather than get a refund since I was pleased with the tattoo. No response. So then I called, and found that the number had been seemingly disconnected - but that wasn't what had happened at all. The number listed to make appointments is a google voice number - and she had blocked my number! (Google voice provides this capability.) SERIOUSLY? Over $10?? Wow. I found this out because I called again from my home phone # (which she didn't have - and had not blocked) and was able to get through. I've also used google voice in the past so I'm familiar with the capabilities and recognized the fake 'This number has been disconnected' message that plays when a caller is blocked. So once I got through calling from my home phone number I point blank asked her why she had blocked my number and told her this was all pretty shady.
Once she realized I knew what she had done she then replied to my email. After a few email exchanges she said she wanted my address to mail me a check. No way I would give this woman my address and no way I would cash a check from her. I finally decided that anyone who would go through this much trouble for $10 is extremely desperate and obviously needs that $10 more than I do. So I just let it go.
Cannot recommend this at all - despite having been pleased with the tattoo.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
