I'm really surprised this place has two and a half stars. While it may look like a tourist trap, I've had nothing but good experiences here within the past few months.

To my recent surprise, I learned that Jon's has killer craft beers. They were an active participant in Philly Beer Week 2016 and now a bar consideration whenever I'm in the area. Their beers are listed on Phillytapfinder.com to help make the decision process a little easier. A Bullfrog Brewery event drew me in during beer week, and a few of their drafts brought me back last night.

The outdoor seating is where it's at. Street level gives you great access to South Street people watching, while a small fence gives you the security of not being right on the street.

Each weekday between 5p-7p they offer happy hour specials, which include $2 off beverages and some discounted apps. Happy hour is not just limited to the bar so you can enjoy it outside.

Last night my hubby and I decided to sample two varieties of wings. For $5 an order, why not? We first went with the spicy BBQ sauce. While not actually spicy, it had a great tangy flavor. Our second round we went with hot sauce. Again, not really hot for us, but it was your classic buffalo flavoring. The wings weren't the meatiest I've ever had and they were mostly wings. They had a real nice crisp to them and they weren't shy with the sauce. Each order came with 10 pieces, not too shabby.

I also thought our server was great. She understood that we came in for happy hour and worked with us to maximize our happy hour ordering time. She also didn't mind that we were just drinking and having appetizers. They added gratuity onto our check automatically, even though we were just two people; however, she underlined it when dropping off the check so we wouldn't miss it. That could have slipped by really easily.

So I didn't really read the other reviews before going there because the beer list spoke for itself. I'm happy with my experiences at Jon's and until I have reason to believe otherwise, I'm sticking with this four-star review.

      ***Special event review only.

Jon's is never a place I think to visit for fun. It boasts a dated facade and an interior that needs to be updated yesterday. But every now and again, they do something crazy awesome like host fancy breweries. And when they do that, I show up.

As part of Philly Beer Week, they hosted Bullfrog Brewery and Steve, the owner, on a Friday night. My group (basically all Yelpers..) arrived earlier than the start time to secure an area around the bar. We split a TON of amazing beers, chatted with Steve for awhile, and took a fan-girl photo with him.

The bartenders did an awesome job. Whenever one us stepped up to the bar, someone was right there and ready to pour! That doesn't even happen at many bars on non-event nights.

I haven't had their food, so I can't speak to that, and I've never casually stopped by for drinks, so I can't even attest to that either. But i can say this was an odd yet really fun spot for Philly Beer Week this year. I'd return.

The seating was really nice even though its right on south street so there is not much sight seeing from the patio.

The food is a decent price and tasted good as well. I am not much of a beer drinker but if you are this is definitely the place to go. They have a good selection. We ordered a couple appetizers but we were not disappointed.

Located in the "hipster" part of town. I stumbled upon Jon's while walking around. I noticed the massive Larry Fine (Three Stooges) mural outside. Naturally, I asked about it. The bartender said the restaurant is on the site his birthplace. I later confirmed this on Wikipedia.

Jon's has 20+ rotating beers on tap as wells as an extensive wine and cocktail menu. It was freezing outside so the Beer Garden was close but it looks like it would be a fun place to hang out when the weather is nicer.

Came here on a random trip to Philly a couple of weeks ago and dined on the roof deck. Was the service slow? Yes. We waited at least a half hour for food and kept checking out other diners' tables, relieved to see that theirs were also empty (hey, at least we were all hungry together). But when the food finally came, I wasn't disappointed. The seafood sampler was delicious! I don't even like coconut shrimp, but I had to give them props for theirs. And the crab and shrimp dip with pita bread? Scrumptious. The sweet potatoes? You could tell they were quality; naturally sweet and ripe without any added sugar. Not sure why anyone else was disappointed by the food.

Were the drinks pricey? Sure, but I'm from New York so it was pretty much on par with city prices. I ordered a Brass Knuckle; please tell me I can walk up to any bartender at any bar and order this again. Our waiter was awesome; bonus points for recognizing the triforce on my hoodie and wallet, and my Deathly Hallows earrings. :) Great ambience too, overlooking the bustling nightlife of South Street.

Will definitely return when I come back to Philly.

While riding on a double decker bus (against my wishes) I see a huge mural of the least popular Stooge, Larry. (No one counts Shemp or Curly Joe) This had tourist trap written all over it but I was hooked like a moth to flame. If I was a rat then they got me in the trap with their cheese. Wise Guys!!! N'yuk N'yuk N'yuk

It was 10 am, the place had just opened and I made 5 guys get off of the bus just so I could take a picture in the "Birthplace of Larry Fine". What an odd claim to fame. Anyway, we all got our 1st drink of the day here and they were pretty good. I got a Bloody Mary because day drinking doesn't seem to be nearly as bad when it starts with tomato juice. Their Bloody Mary was ok. I was a little spicy which I like but not enough veggies and no pickled green bean. This is a huge deal for me as I must have my bean!

We were here so early that their outdoor upstairs patio overlooking South St wasn't open yet......so we opened it. It was a nice sunny day so sitting around a picnic table with my bros having a drink was perfect. Plus I got my selfie with Larry.

They have food here but I have no idea how it is....sorry. The place is nice, the patio is nicer, the Bloody Mary is decent and you can knock the Birthplace of a Stooge off of your bucket list. Now to find Moe and Curly's birthplaces.

The food was decent, I haven't been to Jon's in a while but was not as impressed as I have been in the past. I had the shrimp Po-Boy and it seemed as if the shimp was previously frozen. I also had the sweet potato fries, those came out hot and seemed to be cooked just right.
My girlfriend had a burger and fries. Her food was okay, but nothing to rave about.
We also shared the seafood dip appetizer. This was my favorite part of the meal. There was plenty of seafood and flavor(although a bit salty for me)in the dip and the bread that accompanied the dip was delicious.
Service was okay and the location is pretty cool, we had outdoor seating. Located on South Street so parking is hard to find.

Not sure if I just came at the wrong time I don't spend a lot of time on South Street it's not really my thing hipster is hobos and vagabonds aren't really my crowd but I wanted to check out South Street for the Mardi Gras I came in with my family
I definitely did not want to eat here I didn't like the weights and I definitely didn't wanna sit outside but my family did they ordered burgers as I do not eat red meat I tried to order the pulled pork quesadilla but they had just ran out of it or waitress Angelena had told us that the weight would be a while because they were so backed up we definitely waited a very long time for the table but she brought the drinks and food out pretty quick and she was even nice enough to charge myself on for me while we eat so I didn't get pictures of what we had ordered I really didn't eat much
But the place was definitely packed everyone was drinking alcohol and having a nice time they offer wings burgers quesadillas nachos basic bar food the service is definitely very very good
Just try not to park your car in that area you will get a ticket
Even though I didn't eat all that much I did have one or two French fries and one piece of the chicken quesadilla I'm just not into red meat and balm food greasy food makes me feel itchy but it was definitely a hangout place
      Not my cup of tea...
but it deserved a 4 star for sure, good place if you you are into that environment and social crowd and like pub food

We came here on a sunny Sunday afternoon after several hours of perusing nearby bookstores. The food selection was nothing out of the ordinary, but tasted good, and the portions pretty generous, and the draft beer selection was impressive. It was a pleasure to sit out in the sunlight on one of two patios to enjoy our meal.

But the service left something to be desired. It was such a nice day that there should've been more than one person assigned to serve the outdoor patio. We had a hard time getting our server's attention for drink refills and the check. There are so many other places to eat in Philly that we probably wouldn't go out of our way to make a return visit here.

We needed a quick stop for a bite to eat and something cold to drink, and this place hit the spot.
We had a good Seafood Sampler and flat iron steak salad.
I would have given more stars but the "service" was a little bit too pushy.
The outside seating was good and made the night better.
