May 4, 2020. First place to sit down and dine in since THE pandemic. The place is super clean and they are very organized with social distancing. Hot delicious food! As I scanned the menu, I noticed the double cheeseburger combo was only a $1 more than the single combo. I later discovered it was a bargain since a double cheeseburger itself is $2 more than a single cheeseburger. I opted to get everything on top. Fortunately, everything on top did not end up as a lot of things on top.
After I ate the burger, I was still a bit hungry. Fortunately, finishing off the fries satisfied my hunger. While inhaling them, I wondered how the signature fries were different than the fries I got since there was no difference in price. I am looking forward to finding out another day.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2234386Aug 30, 2019
Johnny B's is back open at its original location across the street from Costco. Johnny's founder came out of retirement to re-open one of the first family-owned restaurants in Southlake.
On a recent visit, the flattop grill was busy. The burger patty arrived full of flavor with a great sear. However, the bun seemed to be too much for the burger. The meat-to-bun ratio was way off. Perhaps the bun works better with a double or triple patty. The bread was slightly sweet and paired well with the patty, except for its thickness.
The french fries were frozen from a bag and were a disappointment. Fresh cut fries would be so much better.
Perhaps improvements will come as the place gets back on its feet.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joy L.Dallas, TX1206823Jan 8, 2021
I just got my food and I paid $10 (tip included) for like an ounce of meat.. the rest is lettuce, tomato, and I said extra pickle but he did not add that. I went back to complain about it and she said sorry.... that's one burger patty. Waste of money. For what you get... it's NOT WORTH IT

This location has reopened.
Went to Johnny B's for lunch, today. The atmosphere and friendliness is still the same, but the food is a bit different. The burgers are 1/4 pound, the bun is bigger and taste the same as the old ones, but it is more bread. The fries were disappointing, but I loved their fires before. They are not the fresh, peeled potato, sliced fries, more like frozen. So I miss their old ones.
Their hours are Monday- Thursday 10:30-3:00 and Friday - Saturday 10:30-9:00pm.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 16, 2016
I've seen several yelpers mention Uber Eats in various reviews and decided to check them out because I knew it would be too busy to leave work for lunch. I saw quite a selection delivering to the Grapevine area and thought it was cool to have a Southlake option for something I wouldn't otherwise try for lunch from work. Yesterday, when my coworkers arrived I expressed that there were a ton of options and I needed something filling as I burned all my calories by 8am with all the work that was in, one said she had been coming here forever and the owners were great- sold!
Through Uber Eats you don't necessarily see all the ingredients, etc. so I ordered a cheeseburger with no veggies except lettuce, fries, a water and a chocolate shake. Prior to the uber fees the total was $11. Chris delivered it to me, still warm, and one bite in I got all nostalgic back to the classic burger and shake/malt shop. I hadn't even seen the building and knew I wanted to check it out and eat here again.
The burger had a delicious sauce and the lettuce was fresh and the butter bun had a really nice toast on it. The reason I ordered less veggies is that a lot of buns get soggy from tomatoes or pickles but this bun was thick and I honestly don't think that would have been a problem, nice. The fries looked dark and I was wondering if someone forgot to change the fryer oil but they tasted good and fresh. They were different than fries you normally see so I'm thinking perhaps hand cut? The shake was a generous portion in a medium cup and the first thing I tried, mmmming through the straw and nodding my head, that's a good shake. The shake is pretty thick and hearty, sweet but not overly chocolaty so you can enjoy it without getting diabetes.
The burger was small, perfect for me but smaller than the average burger. The meal was extremely filling, I had a couple of burger bites left over and about half the fries. Even if I didn't have the shake I'm sure I would have had some fries left over. For me, that's a perfect lunch where you get your moneys worth and don't have a lot of wasted food left over. For anyone with a big appetite though, like my husband, I would recommend the double meat burger.
I was completely satisfied with my meal and not only was it satisfying, it did the trick! I ate around 1pm, worked the rest of the day and almost forgot to have dinner because I was still full! Considering that for me personally, the busy time of year has me snacking throughout the day to supplement my meals and craving meat all the time this was impressive!!
This isn't a specialty place, a place that boasts the biggest burger, some fusion place with "new and exciting" flavor combinations. It's a good ole burger and shake place and it's exactly what I needed. The menu displayed chili which I bet is good there, hot dogs, grilled cheese and malts. Great menu for this type of restaurant and a perfect place to remember those visits you got excited about as a kid.
I will definitely be eating this food again and can't wait to check it out in person! 10:30am open every day is great for people who work early and get early lunches and it looks like they are open until 8:30pm during the week which is great timing for a late dinner. Also looks like they are open until 9pm Friday/Saturday but close at 3pm on Sunday which says family place to me and I'm all for supporting that.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 9, 2020
Wow. Not worth it. I don't usually give bad reviews but this place just was not worth the money. Definitely should have got fast food. The burgers were edible. And the lettuce and tomato was fresh. The fries were NOT. There were only two customers. So they didn't have any excuse.

So, based on a comment added to our previous review, we gave it one more try. And - it's back!!! The burger is fixed! The bun is fixed! The hand cut fries are available, ("fries" are still frozen version so make sure to ask for "hand cut" which are labeled "signature") but make sure you ask for them. The prices are still higher than before, but have come down. Drink cups are small, but in the restaurant refills are available. We are thrilled and will go back. Thank you to management for listening and fixing things. Spread the word!
Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 26, 2019Previous reviewIf we could give 0 stars, we would. This used to be our favorite burger place, and we went in at least once a week. We were heartbroken when it closed and elated when we saw it re-opened. Despite what news articles, etc., say - IT IS NOT THE SAME PLACE AND DEFINITELY NOT THE SAME QUALITY! If "Johnny" helped the new owners start operations again, as reported - THEY DID NOT FOLLOW HIS SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MODEL! First, prices have doubled - increased almost 100%. When we first went back, we noticed it was pricey, but looked at old photos of the menu on the wall to realize how big this increase was. The claim is that the burger is larger, but if it is, that's lost in a bun that is too big and dense. French fries are no longer fresh cut, they are a typical frozen potato - so disappointing. We hoped, after all the feedback from old customers and initial crowds dropped off, the proprietors would make the changes to keep previous customers who loved Johnny B's. So we went back a second time, and nope. Unless we see reviews that changes have happened, we won't be back.
Aug 31, 2019Previous reviewWe loved this place and were thrilled it reopened. Our first visit was disappointing. We visited about 3p on a Saturday afternoon. Our burger was not cooked fresh, it was reheated. We saw the precook meat at the front of the grill.and our order was served in about 3 minutes after placing. We did see people after us getting freshly prepared meat. The fries are no longer fresh cut potatoes, as in the past. The bun was dense, too much bread for the meat, and overpowered the rest of the flavors. Prices have increased about 20%. We will probably give it a few weeks and hope enough regulars (like we were) will help them see what we miss about the past food.

Dang it.... I'm having a hard time with this one. I LOVED the original JohnnyBs at this location. My parents loved it so much, it was a weekly meal stop. When it closed, they were really sad. The original had photos of people traveling the world, posing with their JohnnyBs signs. My parents had theirs from Stonehenge in the UK! With the reopening, under new owners, the fear is they'll change what made it great. I was pleased to hear the had a plan To mitigate this, they have the original owner in house, showing them the ropes. Yay!!
Here's the rub... It's really expensive. Quite a bit more than the original. The flavor of the meat was great. The bun is still the nice grilled bun, except that it's bigger, almost too much bread to meat ratio for a double meat, it would way too much and too sweet for a single patty. The Cheese, meh, no flavor. What got me (in the wallet) was the .79 cent charge for jalapeños and they only added 3. That's over 25 cents PER jalapeño slice. A dollar extra for 7 onion rings. I went to onion rings because they changed the original awesome fries to a different type, because... get this.... a large % of orders are UberEats and GrubHub, so they changed type of fries to improve delivery quality. Priorities? I tasted one, they're 'ok'. The bill was over $20 for a double-meat cheese burger with onion rings and a drink. Same meal $9.00 at In and Out or Whataburger.
So I'm paying to support a local business.
Summary score: 1/2 Star of 1 for atmosphere, it's an order at the counter fast food place with bright red and yellow decor. Clean... a bit sterile. Old JohnnyBs had photos and a local community/family feel. 0 stars of 1 for service. The order taker was harried, sloppy, and loose hair hanging from her sleeve. No greeting just a stare while I ordered. Tray on the counter and the number called. A Very low rent, fast food lack of customer care.
1.5 Star of 2. The quality of the food is good to be fair. Just not worth the price or upcharges, which leads me to 0 stars of 1 on if I'd come back.
I'll keep an eye to reviews and hope the new owners get their act together.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jamie P.Eastvale, CA142678Nov 11, 2019
In town visiting some family and stopped by here to grab some lunch. I had a Hamburger Combo with fresh cut fries and a drink. My husband had the Cheeseburger Combo with onion rings and a chocolate shake.
The food was yummy!!! The service was really great! I told them I am lactose intolerant and they were very accommodating ( I didn't get the usual eye roll, like at other restaurants).
The prices are very reasonable, not sure why some people disagree. Most burger places charge 12 bucks just for the burger unless you like $1 fast food crap. The ingredients are fresh and the bun is the best! In NYC you would pay twice as much for that same meal.
My husband wanted to go back the next day for another burger and shake but we didn't have time.
Next time we come down to visit family, we will def eat here again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
