About the Business
Outstanding breakfast, with unique items such as sweet potato pancakes, and The Jimmys "Garbage" Breakfast. Many menu items are made from scratch and homeade from the pancakes to the biscuits and gravy. We are also one of the only establishments that roasts their own coffee beans, and it is that same fabulous coffee that we serve everyday. Jimmy's also has an extensive lunch and dinner menu that, along with everything else on the menu, is extremely economical. Dine-in, to-go, and catering available.

Omelets. Lots of omelets.
I had the Popeye's Revenge omelet. I sat at the counter. This place is LOUD; there's no wall or glass between the eating area and the kitchen. So while it was sort of nice to watch the meals being prepared on a row of huge griddles, there was a din.
Place is popular, even if I'm somewhat underwhelmed. At lunch every table was full, even tho it's only been open a month. I'd never heard of Jimmy's Egg before, but it's a chain. Very very very a chain. There's a French term that's hard to translate - terroir, sort of meaning the way that wine or food is rooted in the land. Whatever it means, Jimmy's Egg has none.
Maybe I'm so neg on this place because the high stools at the bar were so uncomfortable. My wife called while I was eating and I had to leave the restaurant before she could hear me on the phone over the background din. My omelet was .. meh. Ok. Enough spinach, ham, cheese. On the dry side. I wonder if I could have ordered it extra-greasy?Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 8, 2011
I've been here twice and they are going to keep seeing me because I've got nothing but good things to say about Jimmy's Egg. Our waitress both times was so sweet. She was very patient with our not knowing what to order, and let us have plenty of time to decide.
I'm trying to watch my calorie intake, and it made it so convenient that they had a 'healthy options' portion of the menu. I decided on the sweet potato pancakes. I wasn't quite sure what I was in for, but it sounded interesting. I got two pancakes and they came out with powdered sugar on top of them, and butter and syrup on the side. I took my first bite and I was hooked!
So let's see, 2 delicious (healthy) pancakes, great customer service within the waitstaff, and a low bill (my pancakes were $5). So why wouldn't you come here?Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jolyn B.Philadelphia, PA12594781431May 3, 2011
Lots of choices on the menu but not many healthy options. Most options come with toast or muffin or biscuit. Well, the biscuit must wwigh 5 lbs itself!
I had breakfast tacos with veggies so I was at least trying to be good, but the boys loaded up and had to be rolled home.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - David W.Seabrook, TX265314407Mar 12, 2011
This place gets an A+ for menu variety, A for service, the rest is good but not outstanding. One differentiator between this place and others is that many of their plates come with a bread (not unusual) to include biscuit and gravy (whoa, almost like another whole dish). The only problem with this concept is that you have to be rolled out if you eat the whole thing (after you have the eggs, sausage, bacon, and hash browns that also come with it).
If you go, you might try to venture into the omelet menu (unique variety) or pancakes/waffles (above average). The rest is about what you'd expect, prices about for what you pay for (tough to get out for less than $10 if you get a coffee or juice).
Coffee is above average, and they are very attentive to keep it filled.
Another contributor to the above average menu is a reasonably long health conscious menu, I had good luck recently with a plate which had two eggs, turkey sausage, and wheat bread (2 slices, lightly, not overly buttered). Wasn't too much food, hit the spot.
They really market their "garbage" breakfast, which best I remember is just about everything you want for breakfast mixed together. Haven't tried it, someday I'll fast for two days and do so.
As I said, service is above average. I have had instances in which it was extraordinarily busy and servers were overwhelmed, so if you're there at a busy time, you might experience this.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kristin H.Houston, TX341207106Feb 11, 2011
I'm not a breakfast eater. I've tried to get into the habit of grabbing a bite to eat on my way out to the office because I know it is good for me, but I've failed each attempt.
On a day off, however, brunch is a really nice way to start off the day. My boytoy wanted to go to Dennys or IHOP, but at hours like that, when a good brunch restaurant is still open... why? Why should I punish myself with crappy midnight food? So with a little reasoning, I guided my man to Jimmy's Egg. Ambiance is equivalent to an IHOP or Dennys, but I'm really not one to care about things of this nature.
Trust Rachel C. in regards to her experience with the Pineapple Express Omelette. My man ordered it and I'm green with envy. Because the omelette is different, I wanted to try it sooo bad! But he loves pineapples and I'm the type that can't order the same thing my companion orders because I like to pick off both plates and compare flavors and get a better idea of the quality of a restaurant.
His omelette was extremely tasty and devoured in 2.5 seconds. His only complaint? The order comes with biscuits and gravy and he said the biscuit was not soft enough. I had a bit and didn't think so.
I on the other hand got the Sweet Potato Pancake Sandwich.
Now, if you order a sandwich, what do you expect? I think my server got my order wrong because what I got was sweet potato pancakes with sides. I was expecting meat and eggs stacked between two pancakes! What I got was an order of pancakes with meat and eggs on the side. Boo! And the flavor of that pancake was not good enough to justify ordering again.
But the Pineapple Express! I will see you again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Rachel C.Houston, TX5733652Jan 1, 2011
Yum!
I am obsessed with breakfast, so I was very excited to try out this new little place my mom took me to near her house. Very busy but great service. My mom got the Baja omelet and I got the Pineapple Paradise omelet-- who knew pineapple, onions and sour cream would taste amazing together?? News flash, they do! Their home fries, raison toast and biscuits are great! I thought it was great for the money, would definitely do it again!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Joseph L.Houston, TX20011845Aug 8, 2011
Jimmy's Egg can be a decent local contender to the Denny's and IHOP's in town, but their food needs some tweaking before that can happen.
First, the ambiance. It's nice... nicer than I thought it would be, in fact. It resembles that of Denny's, but it has a more intimate feel. There are booths and tables, with the kitchen in the back.
As the name might lead you to believe, their 'specialty' is breakfast. The menu is quite extensive, from omelets to pancakes to everything in between.
I ordered the pancakes, and my two companions ordered an omelet and the French toast. The pancakes seemed dry, and the syrup and butter smothering could not compensate. I was told the French toast tasted "weird". It looked like it was prepared on wheat or multi-grain bread... but it tasted fine to me. The omelet, I'm told, was tasty.
Prices are very reasonable. The three of us ate for $23 including tax.
While the food can be hit/miss, the coffee is very good, and even served in the brown diner mugs.
Would I come back? Probably not for a while.
Do I recommend you try it? Sure. But avoid the pancakes, or inquire first.
Jimmy's Egg is behind the Valero, next to Petco, and there's free parking everywhere in that lot.
Tip: Your waiter/waitress gives you the check, and you pay at the cashier's station in the back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Goldie G.Webster, TX1574Feb 7, 2010
Eh, it was okay.
You pay $7.99 for steak and eggs and you get $7.99 steak and eggs. The toast was burnt and I sent mine back. On the way out we saw our waitress had burnt other bread in the toaster oven and was trying to cut the burnt crust off of it. I got the pot roast and it was just okay. My plate was swimming in water, I think they put my green beans on the plate without draining the spoon first.
The interior was nice and clean. Sort of a down home/Denny's feel but nicer. I had hopes for better food based on the interior.
We went there for dinner and it was just okay. Maybe breakfast or lunch would be better. We were supposed to get a free dessert but they never brought it. But since they only have 2 choices, and neither of them looked appetizing, we didn't mind.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matthew T.Bradenton, FL1816061235Mar 1, 2010
Not a terrible place, but some fault keep me from giving them three starts. I stopped in here for breakfast while on a business trip. The setup is pretty standard and what you would expect for a local chain breakfast place.
The staff was very good and friendly. I got the eggs and chorizo. Decent, the eggs were cooked right and the chorizo could have been spicier but it was tasty.
So you might be asking why not three stars? The home fries. They were dried out hard little cubes that used to be potatoes. As I was sitting up at the contour I saw why. They made a large batch and they were sitting on the edge of the flattop waiting for an order to come in. I know cooking potatoes to order can be tricky but letting them turn into hard cubes is not the way to go.
Better than Denny's and better than a coffee shop or hotel breakfasts but needs a little work. Fix your potatoes, and I'll give you three stars.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Maggie H.Berlin, Germany381534528Jul 6, 2011
would it kill them to use fresh ingredients?
I got the spinach, mushroom, and tomato eggwhite omelette and the strawberry banana pancakes. Instead of using fresh spinach, the omelette arrived speckled with shredded spinach that clearly came from the freezer aisle and canned mushrooms with a rubbery texture. The pancakes were no better. They came topped with a thick layer of sugary strawberry syrup, rather than fresh berries. The syrup kind of had an artificial cherry flavor. gross gross gross.
At least they gave me fresh bananas. yay?
I can't remember the last time I ordered a mushroom dish a restaurant and was served canned mushrooms. All in all, stay away from this place. Cereal at home would've left me more satisfied than this place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
