Q:
If you ask them to traditional cut (triangles) your pizza, will they do so for you?
A:
I know I've seen them cut that way, not very often though. I have never personally asked, but I have seen them do it.

Thank you Yelp! for yet another local establishment to give a go. Very small, yet quite busy establishment. We were seated in a booth close to the check out counter and the front door. People were coming in left and right to pick up their pizza orders. Hmmm, duely noted on the pizza. Food was good, fair prices for a small local establishment. We will be going back.

Awesome food and great beer.... Once their extra space is completed downtown Sylvania will be rocking.

Wonderful brews from affiliated with a tasty pizza and gyro establishment. The "10 Mike Creek" red ale is my preferred beverage!

I LOVE the interior of this place If I get to sit at a booth. It takes you back in time. I am however not a fan at all of being sat at a table with other ppl in a different group. I don't care if there is a chair in between us. Nope, not gonna do it!
I like the pizza. The cheese is very good, the sauce has good flavor. I could use a little more of it. The crust is meh. It's a little tough for me and desperately needs a brush of olive oil when it comes out of the oven. That would make a world of difference I think. I will return (if they sit me at a booth) to try the Spinach pie and gyro.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Michelle R.Nashville, TN417358Jul 11, 2017
My parents first went to J and G's 47 years ago and we grew up eating here (always a family favorite). I moved away and went back to Toledo this weekend for the first time in 10 years.
It's amazing that J & Gs has not changed one iota. Same menus. Same wallpaper. Same everything... including the fantastic food.
We had the pizza (cut into squares) that has a super thin crust. The gyros here is literally the best I've had in the country. And the spaghetti is also great.
Can't say enough about this place but you gotta love a joint that shows this much consistency for 5 decades.
It's the opposite of fancy but if you want a taste of Toledo, hit J & Gs for sure!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - May 13, 2013Updated review67 check-ins
I just found out that J&G Pizza Palace makes its own gyro meat in house! (By the way, I do realize that the phrase "making meat" sounds a little repugnant.) However, given its one of a kind flavor, I wasn't overly surprised to find this out. "My source" still wouldn't elaborate on which spices are used, however.
The lamb/beef/whatever-the-hell-ever-spice combo tastes incredibly delicious, and is, quite honestly, the best I've ever eaten. (I'm not saying that the finished gyro "sandwich" is the best ever, just the meat). I like it in the Greek salad or by itself over rice (gyro platter).
If you are a fan of gyros, you really ought to give J&G a try.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Mar 20, 2013Previous reviewThis place is a little neighborhood hole-in-the-wall, and I don't think the decor has changed since the 1970s (literally). Who says that's a bad thing?
I'm not sure if they produce their gyro meat in-house or not, but either way, it is the BEST tasting gyro meat I've ever eaten. Period. It's flavored to perfection, and cooked to juicy yet crisp perfection, also. I have no idea what spices they add to the lamb/beef mixture (nutmeg? cumin? cinnamon?) but it has a unique and delicious flavor.
This is the first place where,as a little kid, I ever ate a gyro, and they still make one of the best. (Again, I'm Greek, and I've eaten a lot of gyros in a lot of cities and countries).
The chicken kabobs are excellent too.
The salads are large, well presented and flavorful.
The thin crust pizza is also pretty good. The flavor of the sauce is more traditional than what you will find at Amie's or Gino's, and therefore, may appeal to a wider range of tastes. I'd stick with the more basic toppings.
To drink, they have milk and pop for the kids, and beer and wine for the adults. In case you haven't guessed, their wine list includes retsina and mavrodaphne.
They do get busy, but we've never had unacceptably slow or rude service. - Neal F.Cleveland, OH3425615Aug 18, 2020Updated review
Miss the J&G name but other than that this place is a childhood classic. Greek salad with gyro meat and pizza is a treat!
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jan 14, 2016Previous review4.5 stars? Are you high? Avoid at all costs. The restaurant is tiny and charming. It's been a part of the downtown Sylvania dining "scene" for decades. I can't imagine why.
I tried to order a greek salad with gyro meet. They refused to actually put the meat on the salad because, and I quote, "if we did it for you we'd have to do it for everyone else." I let that slide and just figured it was some strange rule the owners made up. I would let the food speak for itself. Yikes, chunks of underdressed romaine lettuce was what they considered to be a greek salad. There was a nice and tasty amount of feta on top. Maybe there's where all the dressing went? The gyro meat was cold and tasted like nutmeg. The pizza, what they're known for, tasted like microwaveable dorm food. Very confusing. I'll never go back.
