J & D Bicycle Shop

Bike touring means sometimes finding yourself sitting at the doorstop of a bike shop at 8:30 in the morning waiting for them to open. J&D really came through for me last week.

There are three bike shops in the city ("two too many for the population", per the owner), and this is the one that opens before 10. Steve and his family have run this shop for 49 years, and the little place exudes character. I got out with a shipshape ride, probably paid too little, enjoyed a story or two, and was done in time to ride another 50 on the trail.

I bought two bikes from J&D years ago and they have done a great job of servicing them. About a year ago they gave me a great deal on a bike they got as a trade-in and I love it. I have found the more than fair. They have often done more than what I brought the bike in for at no extra cost. I would recommend them to anyone.

Our family is fairly new to the area and we needed an older bike fixed. Calling around we ended up taking it here because the owner was so nice on the phone. We're so glad we did! He's very knowledgeable and we learned he has been there for 45+ years. We ended up buying a new bike too. He helped us understand basic wear and tear on the bike and said to call with any questions. I would highly recommend this business to anyone.
