My son is over 300 lbs and I was thinking of getting him training for his birthday to maybe help with weight and strength. Is this a good idea? Thank you!
A:
He would need some sort of conditioning program before he starts boxing. Have him do approx 2 months conditioning first. Thank you for your question.

Great environment to learn. My husband and I have been coming here for years. Great focus on footwork and fundamental techniques.

Fitness and boxing technique-oriented gym with owners always on site. Trainers are almost all active or experienced boxers with a few getting advanced degrees locally. Joe & Renenne are owners and easy to work with for memberships, classes, etc. They have all your need for sale on location and for good value: gloves, wraps, t-shirts and gym towels (which are mandatory but available for a mere $1, what else only costs 100 cents these days??)
I've been a regular here for 3.5 years and am 49 years old. I participate in Tommy's sparring clases on Saturdays at 1:00. Come & get some.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ettor D.South Scottsdale, Scottsdale, AZ027Jun 21, 2022

They gon try an squeeze ur pockets,,,, what kind of gym provides no water fountain for their members, and charges for bottles of water? Makes gym sweat rags mandatory and charge u for them too? And to top it all off, even if your a member you have to pay $10 to get in the ring and spar whenever they have those nights,,, they're Scratching for money, badly....

Hello Daniel, thank you for your concerns. I will address them each please.
Summary first:
1. Bring your own water. 2. Bring your own towel. 3. Sparring is free if your skill level is there and providing a coach is available (freed up) to oversee it. But the Saturday group class does cost money, 1 hour for only $10.
1. As per health dept. we had to remove our drinking fountain due to virus and disease factor. Please google this subject. Just as public schools we cannot have a public fountain. Our 20 oz. water only sells for $1. Or simply bring your own bottled water.
2. As per health dept. we were ordered to require members to carry 2 sweat towels. The 2 city workers literally stood and watched our members workout to verify they did indeed have their 2 towels and was wiping off themselves and the equipment. NOW with both vaccines in place we were allowed to take it down to only 1 towel. The towel rule is listed on our front page of our website and all other pages of our site as well. Also, we tell people to please feel free to bring your own sweat towel (any size, even a wash cloth). Our towels only sell for $2 for 12 x 12 size. We do not care if you purchase them from us or not, but you MUST have a towel to workout. The towel sign is posted at front upon entering, so that everyone knows this rule before they pay the $30. Some even run back home to get a rag or to their car for a T-shirt. As long as you have something to wipe up sweat this is all we are concerned with; for the well-care of health of others.
3. The $10 sparring class is an actual group scheduled class on Saturdays at 12:15 and 1:30pm. We do have sparring all throughout the week that WE DO NOT CHARGE for, but your skill level must be determined before allowed to spar, plus you have to have your own gear (headgear, groin protector, mouthpiece). If you wish to spar throughout the week, simply inquire at front desk.
We are not "scratching for money". Our open gym membership is only $30 with NO Contracts and NO EFT (bank drafting). Been this price since 2009. The 1on1 training has only had 3 price increases in 6 years.
You joined our gym last week on May 3rd. Please come to us with anymore of your concerns, all of us are right there to listen to you.

Hard to explain things, but Joes a Vet I'm a vet... Joe a guy you plainly see and that's Joe..The Man knows how to over down and make you not feel like a loner that no one cares about
I remember training with Joe, and was extremely tired and Joe was like now you're learning how to box it's when you can't barely do things where your training..that's a Champion it's not the guy who can still do a 5k and 1000 push ups..

Bryan, thank you for taking the time out to write such a wonderful felt review!
Thank you x 2, so kind of you again!Oct 1, 2020Previous reviewI heard there is a gun and ammo shortage with everything going on! But, why not start at the basics and really learn how to defend yourself?
Iron Gloves Boxing is comprehensive, a Great Workout, and if something does end up happening on the street you will feel safe in knowing that you'll be walking away from the conflict and not the victim in a crime show!!!

Awesome old-school boxing gym, the one on one training is worth 3 months of training in just one month. I had some muy Thai experience, but the month of one on ones in boxing perfected my technique. Couldn't recommend it enough.

I absolutely love training with Joe. He is literally one of my favorite trainers and it's very affordable. I hope that he's not busy during the new year. Now that I am back full time in Arizona, I would definitely like to start boxing again!

Open gym didn't mean open gym. We were asked to leave because we were from another gym over an hour away. Such a disappointing experience here.
