The therapy pool is still amazing and everyone, particularly if you are older, should enjoy it--incredible feature for the size of the community

If a 0 rating was an option, that is what I would rate the Illinois Valley YMCA in Peru.

When it comes to open facility hours, this facility clearly caters to teenage and grown men. The CEO Chris will not allow my daughter to practice her sport, claiming it is dangerous, during open gym hours. She takes up very little square footage, and as long as one respects her personal space, it would not be a problem. It is probably a lot safer than dodging basketballs in that facility. Plus, she is covered under sport insurance. He said the vast majority (mainly teenage and grown men) want to use the gym for basketball, so it seems nobody else is allowed to use it for any other purpose. The open hours are afterschool hours, and the website says they end at 6pm on certain days, but I guess they STILL get to take over the whole gym.

The CEO did say that the racquetball courts were an option but that racquetball players had the right to remove her and take precedence, even if she is there first and has waited for availability. The majority of racquetball players appear to be grown men, too. I am not going to spend 50 minutes of roundtrip driving time only to have my daughter not be able to use the facility, so we will never become full members. Who in their right mind would pay for things they cannot use?

This, in my opinion, feels very sexist and discriminatory. My young daughter has resorted to practicing in cold, rain, and wind.

I feel I should discontinue the private tumbling lessons I have been paying for at the YMCA to supplement their sport. However, the coaches in that department have nothing to do with this. And my son will not be participating in the next Healthy Kids Day as he did a demonstration last year to promote the YMCA.

I'll be sure to share my experience with others.

Its got a lot of good stuff for lifting, only issue is the weight room is kinda dirty and unorganized. Clean it up and get everything organized and its 5 stars.

What ba beautiful. facility but of course there is but . We paid the sixty dollars a month. Then brought the grandkids a week later to go swimming. Come to find out they get three hrs swim time in a twenty by twenty nine foot pool. As I look at the beautiful and fun looking slides. The therapy pool that my wife needs on a regular basis. Almost always closed. When I asked about the future of the place I was told there there are plenty of other things to do. You tell me what kids ten and under want to do racquet ball or dumbbells. I could go on but. The point is what a beautiful facility with nothing to offer the average family

Love this place.. if I had one complaint is that we were supposed to get a phone call from one of the trainers , I believe his name was Ben and nothing was ever done. I left a couple of messages and have yet to have someone return my calls. But overall though I believe that me and my girlfriend love this gym , we love the therapy pool and the overall cleanliness of the place. We also love the big huge variety of workout equipment to use no matter what level of exercise you are at.

Wow, a gorgeous well equipped gym in the middle of nowhere! Coming here definitely made my work trip out to the farmlands much, much more tolerable.

Since my last week long visit a year ago, the renovation has been completed and in addition to a cardio and weights area, there is now an Olympic size lap pool and a full fledged water park along with a game room (Foosball, air hockey, etc.).

The cardio area is well stocked with t.v.s and the little devices to plug your headphones in to listen. I actually got an 8 miler done on the treadmill without feeling mentally drained.

Staff is super friendly and fees are reasonable. I got a one-week all access pass for $20. Oh, and as previously stated, there is much more eye candy to help the time pass by in these small towns.

This is close to 5 stars, but I'm rounding down since it's not as uber clean as the Mulitplex.

I, by chance, spoke to one of the managers who was dressing in the locker room about the minimum age issue. He shrugged it off and said "it happens." So, why have a policy that says you have to be 21 to get into the men's locker room and all these high school kids are taking up lockers, using the steam, and otherwise messing up the place!? If you are a manager, you should act like one! Rating is now worse because management is clueless or doesn't seem to care about 1) not having sufficient lockers for adult men and 2) a vulnerable situation for young boys.
