First thing first I had passed around so many times but never experienced the food inside until one day I was really hungry and was craving pizza puff and gyros I went to order some and took it to go. I try it let me tell you the gyros was so amazing taste I was impressed and the deal prices was way better compared to other fast food place. I definitely will come back well done Hotspot Grilled

Revisited today to try out both their fish and chicken sandwiches. $5.50 each with fries/pop, about $4.50 without.
They do seem to be actually made in house (not commercially shaped into square or circle). You can get a choice of sauce on the side (keeps things crispy until you're ready to eat).
I'd give the edge to the fish sandwich in terms of taste over the chicken. Both are going to be by thinner in terms of expectations, but that may be to make it easier to cook evenly.
It's in the neighborhood that I can walk to. I guess for a shoot out, I'd have to try the nearby diner counter's chicken sandwich (their fish sandwich is cheaper, but is a commercial square patty).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 22, 2020Previous reviewCame back to the Hotspot at end of the year. I'd say fish over chicken here and recommend the catfish (nuggets or fillets) and tilapia would be an alternate 2nd choice. (you can get them as combos - mixing different kinds of seafood/chicken, or dinners). Lemon pepper seasoning is good - and I put it together with hot sauce or tartar at home. Default packing is styrofoam - I'll ask next time if there's an alternative. Prices for many meals include fries and soda, you can request to drop either for a discount.
Wondering now about their fish and chicken sandwiches if mentioned in reviews that they aren't commercially processed but battered and fried to order.Apr 3, 2020Previous reviewWell came back this week during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order to get chicken after having gotten fried chicken from the Fish Keg. Decided to get their choose 2 combo ($11.99) to try the fried chicken (3 pc mix) and also the fish (2 pc catfish). Have to say, the catfish is really great here! Personally better than the perch, but haven't tried the tilapia. They were out of catfish nuggets. The catfish fillets still had a cornmeal breading, but remained light rather than a hard/thick shell and the fish inside was juicy and perfectly timed that it wasn't cooked one more second than needed.
You do get a choice of lemon pepper or salt and pepper seasoning on the chicken, and sauce too.
Chicken could be juicier, so I'd say it doesn't shine as well compared to say Evanston's Chicken Shack's made to order chicken.
Next visit...may just get catfish fillets and try the tilapia or catfish nuggets to test.
The fish/chicken combos are going to come in a styrofoam carton though. Things do stay crispy on the 5 min walk home, but wish it could be a paper carton/bucket.Jan 14, 2019Previous reviewMade another visit this week to focus on their core menu of sandwiches and wraps. Went with a falafel sandwich (ok, a little off from their core of say burgers and such). Did find that the staff were flexible with packing just in a bag instead of styrofoam and gave me the option of falafel in a wrap vs. a pita. Went with a pita (wrap next time).
Pita had fresh tasting falafel and veggies inside. Green salsa was offered with the sandwich, which gave it a bite, but given that it is a veggie sandwich, a good alternative could have been tahini (or-like) sauce instead (they do have a number of sauce options to choose from, so ask or check the menu). It came with fries (crinkle cut, hot and crisp) and soda would have been included for the $4.99 + tax price. I opted to skip the soda and was given a discount of the tax.
Does seem like a pretty wide selection of soda products: Coke, Mt. Dew, Crush. Will take a closer look next time and include it in the meal.
Will consider the wrap next time or just go for a classic cheeseburger.Jan 10, 2019Previous reviewOk...it's been a while for a return review, but circling back around the neighborhood businesses, I took a look at Hotspot's menu again and reviews here and decided to give the fried chicken and tenders a try.
I called ahead to avoid the wait. There may be a line to there to place orders or to pickup, but be sure to let the (one person) staff know you're there since they're pretty efficient and probably have your food ready to be boxed to go. (I had no idea he was so efficient to juggle it all and already have my food ready while taking orders from the counter/phone, cooking, and boxing up and taking payments while chatting with customers (and friendly on the phone).
When we got home, the food was still hot. The chicken was good, but was a little on the dry side for me in terms of dark pieces.
Didn't find a new to go menu to take with, but menu is posted on the wall, specials above the counter and on the plexi. Thinking of a 6 pc falafel next time to go.
Would wish that there was less styrofoam (tenders) and I guess cole slaw was out today (not a big loss) or its no longer part of the tenders meal sides. Chicken comes in a paper basket with the fries and a slice of bread - sauce (ketchup, mild, hot) too. Soda is included in many meals but can be traded for a discount of the tax.
I'd pass on the tenders (Cane's and Bop-n-Grill have set a high bar in RP) though they were thinly breaded white meat. Would keep in mind the fried chicken, but might shift to explore their sandwiches. I'd assume the wings, at least the non-Buffalo style, would be similar in prep as the fried chicken.Oct 25, 2016Previous reviewOur first stop was coming back late from the airport on the 290 bus - we phoned in a fried catfish dinner and it was ready when we got there.
Later we got chicken biryani (not on the the original menu, but now advertised at the restaurant). Made to order to your desired spice level (mild is indeed mild) and the chicken was not overcooked - it was in cut up chunks - so it may be they kept it juicy by cooking the chicken breast separately, and then cut it up to mix in the biryani.
Keep an eye out for new advertised dishes when you get to the restaurant to plan your next order. - Rick Z.Chicago, IL011Jun 4, 2022

The chicken tenders were fried lightly as I requested. They were hot and arrived as if they had traveled 15 minutes before arriving at my destination. However, the gyros plate I ordered meat was dry,, overcooked and cold. I asked for the meat not to be crispy or well done. The French fries were the majority of both meals and cold and limp. The hot sauce is served in small 1oz containers and they want an additional price for extra and the meal (chicken) deserves some condiment to last the meal of three thinly sliced pieces of chicken breast. The sauce served with the gyros had no flavor, cucumber, dill, garlic or onion. It tasted like weak mayonnaise. The salad is wilted and two pieces of dry pita bread. Why? There is only enough meat barely for one pita sandwich. The best thing about this meal was the delivery, it arrived early on a Saturday afternoon. I know why because very few people are ordering. This was the first time I've ordered and probably my last unless there's a special of some sort. There are too many places in the area that serve authentic gyros plates with hot fries delivered with chicken tenders and plenty of condiments especially when you ask for substitution of ketchup for cold French fries.

The love this restaurant and encourage others to order frequently. The food is always prepared with attention care and detail. The prices are very affordable and they offer combos cheaper than competitors nearby. The management and staff are very polite hospitable fun. They are clean establishment and care about their customers. I usually order their fried chicken and fish dinner prepared lightly golden. The Veggie and Indian Chicken plate is delicious. I spoke with the owner because of food allergies and intolerance so I saw he prepares majorities in house i.e. Chicken Tenders, marinades, sauces, breading for fish, Falafel...They are on Grubhub & Uber Eats.

I'm so lucky to have this place close to me. The food here is amazing. A must try for mild sauce wings with fries. That's my go to every time I'm craving some wings that'll satisfy my craving.

Delicious and really really cheap (A meal is less than $4).
I ordered one falafel sandwich with fries ($3.99) and small fried mushrooms ($1.99; about ten pieces) on the side. I liked their falafel sandwich but the pita was a bit too hard. I loved their fried mushroom! At first I wasn't sure if they will cook the mushroom okay or not, but they turned out to be perfect!
It took about five to seven minutes to get the food out which is quite slow but it's understandable since they wanted everything fresh. The owner told me that you could call in beforehand so you don't have to wait (~15 minutes for fried chickens).
I went there around 9 am and it's the only decent one $ sign place around Howard Station that opened. This place surprised me because the food is very good given their price!
I'd go back to try their other food. In short, I recommend you this place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Huda S.Chicago, IL212219Aug 1, 2016Updated review
We got the 2 of 2 cheese burger special combo delivered to our place through Grub Hub! $3.99 for each burger plus fries was really good. The bun, the halal cheese, the beef patty tasted very good. The food they have is very good for the price.
Also, they are 100% Zabiha Halal. Now, isn't that amazing.
They did mess up our order and delivered only 1 combo. When I called right away, Sultan apologized and compensated us another special combo for free. I would've given them a 3 star because of the mess up in the delivery but because they came back with an apology plus another order of 2 burgers, I feel like they do deserve a 5 star review.
Would order again with them!
