Born and raised in Austin, Hi-Tech Automotive has been around since 1987. We are a true mom-and-pop shop so we treat our customers like family too. We pride ourselves with the honesty and integrity we share. Our mission is to do it right the first time so we can get you on your way and bring you the best service possible. We have three convenient locations to serve you. Our flagship is on S. Congress Avenue, our largest is in Kyle and our newest is right in Oak Hill. We specialize in automotive repair & body, used car sales (with in-house financing), and auto recycling (salvage). We expertly handle your automotive needs from simple oil changes and state inspections to engine rebuilds and more. Fully equipped with up-to-date software and diagnosing machines specific to your car, ASE certified and well versed in how to deal with insurance companies if you get in a collision. You have the right to choose your auto body shop, and we are here to help! We understand that having car issues can be stressful so we do our best to make it one less thing to worry about by offering convenient rental cars for replacement transportation or even nearby drop-off's and pick-up. Amber T.Los Angeles, CA15883Dec 21, 2023Two stars because they quickly removed a small pebble that was making a ghastly noise while driving and no charge.
Here is the bad news: I was told that they 'noticed' my rear breaks were kaput and front breaks were at 10% on my Subaru Crosstrek. Note: the breaks were making zero screaching noise when I drove. They quoted me $900 and offered me a driver car, etc. to get the job going. I found a mobile mechanic to do both front and back breaks for less than $300 and he told me that both front and rear breaks were at 40% (I have attached a photo). He told me that the job was suggested prematurely. I understand that mobile mechanics can charge less because they do not have the overhead of a shop.
As a woman, I find it very upsetting when I am met with dishonesty and high quotes at a mechanic shop. I do not know if this would have happened if a man were to have walked in. Bummer.

Good afternoon Amber, I would like to start by saying that you're totally entitled to your feelings and beliefs on what someone else said but it's not appropriate to assume the mobile mechanic was right and we were wrong by labeling us "dishonest".To reiterate our side of the experience, you were scared to drive your car because of the noise that your car was making so we took your car into our shop, lifted it on the lift, took all the tires off to help locate the sound even through you did not have an appointment, and after about half an hour of our time thanks to our expertise, we located the culprit and removed it for free, and put your tires back on and did not charge you one penny. Please keep in mind our base labor rate is $195 so we technically could have charged you approximately $100 or more. We did all of this complimentary to show you we care. You then asked about your brakes, the technician told you that you need front brakes and the rear pads were still good but needed rotors replaced. Also, keep in mind, we only use quality parts and offer warranty on the work we do. In your point about being a woman, that is absurd and any true customer of ours will disagree with you on that. It's not okay to label businesses incorrectly especially after the free help we gave you -Sincerely, woman-owner, Mona

Fantastic experience - fixed a tricky issue with my old car, great communication with me on issue/progress, and price was great too.

I've taken my car here twice and both times they have been friendly, professional, and fast! I was told that my alternator wasn't charging my car battery so I took it in to get it replaced. Turns out my alternator was fine so they just fixed the loose wiring and replaced my battery instead. I dropped my car off in the morning without an appointment and was able to pick it up at lunchtime! Great customer service I highly recommend taking your car here!

I loved this place until I came in for my oil change & left spending nearly $200. Was not told upfront about a labor charge & are pretty disappointed!

Good evening Alexandria, I'm sorry you feel like we were not up front on pricing, however, we do have signs up stating our base labor rate and are more than happy to give pricing up front upon request. I'm not sure I have heard of a place not charging for labor time on an oil change, as we have human technicians and we pay our employees for their time. We greatly value our team. It may be possible you can find a place that is cheaper, please refer to your invoice which specifies we use full synthetic oil and different engine oil grades by spec for your specific vehicle. We also use quality/premium oil filters to promote the health of your vehicle. If this is not a good fit for you, then that is okay. We are not a "quick" lube shop. We only use high quality parts and have certified technicians who are fully equipped to program by spec. We will always be here to serve our customers with quality and care.

HI-Tech Auto is the best of the best. Family owned and operated. I live in the neighborhood and we are treated like family too! Since I live a few blocks away, if my car won't start - they will drive over and look at it or tow it for me. I was stranded taking care of my mom and needed to get her to the doctor, and they gave me a free loaner car for the whole weekend; free of charge! They never over charge and explain everything. I trust them so much. Amazing service!
