Real Old fashioned burgers with perfect grill flavor and made perfect to your liking.
Tiny little joint with character and home town roots. Highly recommend the Double Double!!
The staff is knowledgeable and quick with the orders! A few spots to eat outside, but it's more nostalgic to sit inside with the benches.
Will be back soon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - john H.Hurst, TX043Feb 15, 2024
Good burger if you're passing through. They need fries and maybe onion rings.
I should have gotten a double burger.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 11755132571May 11, 2022
There's two reasons this institution is a Texas legend - even making it into George Motz's legendary compilation, "Hamburger America."
The customer service from the owner combined with the unequaled flavor of these burgers makes stopping here a true experience: a juxtaposition of relaxation eating at picnic tables while your senses are being assaulted by the smells and flavors of what will instantly make your Top 5 Burgers list.
This place was started in 1916, and allegedly uses either the original flattop from that time or one from the 1940s. Either way, the decades of seasoning make that flattop the perfect foundation for an unbeatable flavor.
If you are ever traveling through the Jacksboro area, make some room in your tummy and your day for a visit.Helpful 61Thanks 0Love this 62Oh no 1 - Mesha C.Frisco, TX2616Nov 28, 2023
It was ok. I stopped due to other reviews and wanted just a grilled cheese. My husband got the burger and said it was so so and Grill was just a hamburger bun with two pieces of cheese that were fully melted. Guess you can't complain due to the price but I wouldn't go back.

THE classic Texas mustard burger since 1916 - outstanding enough to earn a visit from George Motz of The Burger Show himself!!
Herd's is pilgrimage worthy - if Motz can come from NYC, we can come from Garland. And we are so glad we did!
Simple perfection is on the menu here: burgers start with a pile of fresh beef on a cold corner of the grill chopped out into patties with a spatula. The grill masters' practiced eye makes for uniform patties, and his muscle memory smashes them flat on an ancient flattop smaller than my breakfast table. Turned once, the meat develops a crunchy umami-bomb crust that seals in juices, resulting in a perfect, tender, BEEFY, crispy patty.
This perfectly cooked patty is then put on a grilled bun and sent to the dressing table, where the patty is smeared with mustard, topped with cheese, and the cold stuff (lettuce, tomato, pickle). The burger is quickly wrapped in paper and handed out the window.
All that love and time and experience melts together in a gooey, crispy, beefy, tangy bite. Mmmmmm!!!
Order at the window the way they tell you to - all burgers come with mustard, lettuce, tomato and pickles. Tell them what you DON'T want first. Then there is a limited selection of extra added toppings like bacon and jalapeño. Mayo and ketchup come in packets. This makes sense when you see how they write the orders down in a code - that code means even on their busiest days they can serve lots of people quickly and efficiently.
No fries but plenty of kinds of chips to choose from, and lots of soda variety as well - get both yourself on the inside of the restaurant
Very limited seating inside, more outside, but most folks with pickup trucks just eat on the trucks bed. This is a no-frills honest burger place where they do one thing extremely well.
5 pilgrimage-worthy amazing burger experience starsHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Laura B.Valley View, TX02513Feb 2, 2024
Burgers are the bomb! Great service! Burgers are juicy and cooked fresh on the spot!! No fries - but bag of chips and a coke rounded out lunch!!!

Amazing road side burger shop. No frills and cash only, but it stays in business because they do it right. Burgers are $5-$8 dollars and good. Only improvement would be investing in a fryolator. Small bags of chips are the side option

I've been to Herd's many times and enjoy it every time. The burgers and toppings are fresh and the buns are always nicely toasted. If you're looking for a nice sit down place, Herd's is not for you. If you enjoy a meal in a piece of roadside history, and don't mind a quirky atmosphere, you will live Herd's. There is picnic table seating in the shade outside, and inside there are some old fashioned tablet arm school desk type seats where you can spend time reading the graffiti-covered walls. Drinks are retrieved from a chest cooler with a sliding top and there's an array of chips in a clip holder on the wall. Herd's is not fancy, but it is just the kind of place where I like to eat and I hope you will like it too!
