On my way to get my hair re-blondied, stopped by Harvest Market for a quick bottle of water - but ended up finding so much more!
Salad bar w/ fresh veggies, chicken salad, egg salad & a few other things of which I didn't take note
Gluten Free desserts looked out of this world & I saw brownies & a flourless chocolate torte but what immediately grabbed my attention was the pumpkin cake! ( no shock there! )
Pumpkin Choc Chip Cake - SUPER moist & lots of chips & walnuts - this was awesomeness, even days after I purchased it!
I also grabbed their premade egg salad sandwich - egg salad & big leaf lettuce on wheat bread
I took this baby home & added some cheese to the sandwich as I've become a big fan of the egg salad-melt....egg salad had nice hunks of egg & a ton of red onion but thought the overall flavor was kind of bland & while I didn't hate it, don't think it would be something I'd crave.....even doctored up w/ my melted cheese
But for the ton of variety & the super delish pumpkin cake, have to say this is the place to be! Good as it gets for sure!!Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - 2003611535Sep 11, 2017
We were very taken with the layout for this neighborhood market. As tourists from Los Angeles we were completely charmed by both the neighborhood and the delicacies in this market, particularly the pastries! My favorite was the pumpkin chocolate cake. It was unlike anything I've ever tasted. A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips! Recommended!

I hate to write a bad review of a small business, but the owner of this place needs to step up . Noon on a Tuesday the 9th of January. Gloomy day, so I want to make Onion Soup.
But nooooooo.. no bread whatsoever, and no bone or beef broth.
Sheesh! It's a produce museum more than anything else. Pathetic!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Paul F.San Francisco, CA1161Oct 21, 2016
I bought a pre-made "Cob Salad" - basically a Cobb without the avocado. Despite the ingredient list including bacon, there was no bacon. The "sell by" date was 10/23. I bought it on the afternoon of 10/21, kept it in the fridge until dinner time, took it out and started to dig in, and found that much of the lettuce under the top layer was disgustingly rusty. I also bought a corn muffin, which was greasy, with no corn flavor. If you absolutely have to shop here, be really, really careful that what you buy is still fresh.

Try the hot bar!
This is like an independently owned and operated Whole Foods equivalent. The hot bar in front caught our eye, and we quickly assembled two boxes of assorted delicious food and a tall cup of gumbo for about $20. Six benches out on the sidewalk provided ample seating for our street fare. The food was, I say again, delicious.Helpful 18Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0 - May 7, 2007
Love this place.
A salad bar full of, well, everything, sits late into the night long after all the others are closed. Who cares if the smoked tofu salad is getting a little crusty.
It's a snacker's paradise. If the dreaded Baghdad Cafe next door scares you off you can do a full impromptu late night meal here, healthy and delicious. A wall full of artisan breads. Every known flavor soy milk including the chocolate peppermint. More vegan cookies than you can shake your stick at. A fridge stocked high and low of drinks familiar and odd -- blue sky sodas, kambucha, ito en tea, orange barley drink, anyone? Plus some good looking vegies, crispy loose carrots piled high in ice (perhaps because an unseasonal heatwave overloaded their cooler?)
The randomness, so out of place in their giant twin store in SOMA, works here in the Castro.
Great for people watching and random conversation too.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Thomas Chase Leo S.Las Vegas, NV02647007Mar 5, 2017
The soups, the chocolates, organic salads across their bar, Harvest Ranch Market has always been an extraordinary neighborhood market. I remember when it was a paint store in the Eighties. The new owners were so creative. While in college at San Francisco State University, they would hire us to work in winter and summer for tourists to save money for college. The place looks better every time I visit the Castro.

This lovely-looking health food store seems like it started as a great idea, but somehow lost its soul along the way. The big, chunky wooden benches out front are perfect for people-watching. However, inside is a different story.
The prices are very expensive. And that says a lot for someone like me who indulges in the occasional Whole Foods visit. The thing is that I don't see any added benefit in service or quality of the goods. Most the staff I've interacted with seem uninterested in the type of healthy products this store specializes in. Like, I asked the cashier about the fresh garlic labeled on the shelf as organic, but with "grown in China" stickers. According to them, it's actually not organic. I'd think they'd want t remedy this confusion by moving the "organic" sticker, but the following week, there the organic sticker was still on the shelf near the non-organic garlic. They did have some organic garlic nearby, but the whole thing was confusing.
They also run out of health food staples, such as unsweetened soy milk, for months at a time. And they seem to stick with the tired Amy's frozen dinners instead of newer alternatives.
Such a great location and ambiance, I' d love to see this place turn things around.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Drew W.Duboce Triangle, San Francisco, CA125203Oct 14, 2015
Overpriced, bad service.
Big sign says "fresh panninis grilled upon your request". Should also say "unless we don't feel like it"
But you an pay 10$ for a cold pre made sandwich.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nicole A.San Francisco, CA182121Feb 27, 2015
Complete disappointment where I walked into my neighborhood grocery store who calls themselves "Harvest Ranch" and they would sell consumers expired milk. I walked in on 2/26 and the Half and Half did not only say 2/28 as expiration date when I saw this morning but also it was already chunky and spoiled when I "technically" have a day left on the date.
The Jalapenos and Serrano peppers were old and wrinkled, was shrinking. No fresh produce whatsoever.
NOT recommended. Disappointing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
