I'm a jewelry artist, and I've been selling here for almost a year. In order for a business like this to succeed, both vendors and buyers have to be happy. I can tell you, I am a VERY happy vendor. The owner, Shobha, only charges $25/month for a small space to display my earrings plus a 15% commission. Not only do I get retail space within the store, she also brings my display to local shows. I've recently learned that I have a following!!!!! I have a fan base!!! WHAT???
She works very hard for us and we all love her for it. She encourages us to participate in local shows to help advertise the store. I have met fellow local artists like myself at these shows. Every 2nd Sunday of the month, she organizes Danville Sunday Market at the store's parking lot.
I'm a physicist, so my work tends to be on the nerdy side. My specialty is wire wrapping (things in fun shapes like puzzles, whisks, music treble clef, or kitty cat), upcycle material (used guitar strings, used bike inner tubes). You can see some of my work at hookedbykarmen.etsy.com. Now words are getting out that I recycle guitar strings into beautiful jewelry, customers know to "trash" their used string to me at the store.
Support me and fellow local artists by shopping here! All of my items are handmade and none will be exactly the same. It's a great place to find one of a kind item for a gift or for yourself!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 20, 2018
Ok the crystal displays at the window called me in the store, such a interesting place to visit. There are plenty of items to see and the shop owner is very friendly and personable. I had alot of questions because there were so many items displayed but she answered them patiently and with much enthusiasm, so more like sharing knowledge with your friend :) which made me feel super comfortable and valued.. lol I think i only explored about 1/5 of the shop that day but a couple good pieces went home with me that day (petrified wood, jasper shot glasses & handmade soap) i am happy from this visit! There are plenty of local artisan's craft to explore and learn. Good place, good people, go check it out!

I really enjoyed browsing through this little shop and came away with a few treasures. This is a cutesy little boutique type store which has different vendors which sells their own products, many hand made in different little areas of the store. There are vendors that specialize in different types of jewelry, doll clothes and furniture, night lights, food items such as fudge and dip mixes, and even books and girl scout related items.
I bought some lavender sugar that I plan to use in my tea and in baking sugar cookies. mmm... I also bought six or seven children's books which were all hardbacks and looked new but were priced between $3.00 and $5.00. These were high interest books (one was by Dr. Seuss) and looked to be in perfect shape!
I think I may need to go back and try some of the fudge, which came in many flavors. One of the flavors was watermelon, and it actually looked like a wedge of watermelon with layers of green and red, and chocolate "seeds".Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lara G.Danville, CA1421929May 10, 2017
I LOVE this place. It's such a fun place to pick up the perfect gift for anyone. I also had some jewelry that needed fixing. These pieces were from my grandmother and very special. Ruby, their Jeweler, was amazing and replaced pieces that needed to be replaced and took such good care of them for me. And so reasonably priced.
I would highly recommend Handworks in Danville. Go take a look!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Pico R.Alameda, CA0273Apr 7, 2018
I found this store and the cashier to be very disappointing. We were told this locations was a UPS Access Point and the sign in the window stated it was. We were turned away after we brought a 92lb box in for return because she insisted it was too large for UPS driver to pick up. This was false, as UPS told us she should have received a package up to 150lbs. Forcing a customer to go somewhere else to drop of a UPS package, already labeled and ready to be picked up was not only disappointing, it was also horrible customer service. This store should not be allowed to serve as a UPS Access store. Take your packages elsewhere and I would never recommend anyone patronize this establishment as a result of this experience.

I decided to venture into downtown Danville with my best friend on a weekday afternoon. We fell in love with this place! The store showcases 42 vendors' goods- some handmade, some re-purposed, and some vintage. Some items are run-of-the-mill (very few goods "made in China"), but the majority are unique and affordable. The main types of goods in this shop are: bath products (that smell divine), jewelry (in every price range- and made from mid to high quality materials), and clothing (everything from silk skirts to girl scout uniforms/patches to baby clothing).
The owner, Shobha, is knowledgeable, personable, and kind. She can tell you about every vendor in her shop and the story behind the handmade works. She has a passion for her vendors and her customers and tailors an individual experience for everyone that walks in the shop's door.
I bought a beautiful dual-sided, wrap style, silk skirt for under $20. My friend bought "name" posters (describe the origin of your name, attributes of those with that name, and future predictions) for her and I. We both have fairly uncommon names and they had both! The vendor also makes custom posters for those who have unique names or spellings. I believe the posters we under $15 each.
Tips:
-come in here when you have time to spend looking around, there are a lot of objects and it can be overwhelming
-make sure you chat with Shobha- she will draw your attention to items you may not have noticed/considered before
-AWESOME place to find gifts for every person on your list
Overall, this store is fun, quirky, and all local. It is a great business model and affordable for customers. I am going to bring my mom to check it out... you should give it a try too!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 7, 2014Updated review
Because of poor customer service during my last few visits I'm downgrading my review. Long story short, the cashier doesn't know , or really doesn't want to know, how to refund/credit credit card purchases. And, he was so rude to boot. He treated me as if I was inconveniencing him to just do his job! any employer worth their salt would have canned him, or at least required more training! too bad his incompetence pushed us away from shopping at this store.
Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 17, 2014Previous reviewI needed to outfit my daughter for Brownies and I had great customer service and the cost of the products were exactly the same as the prices online at the official girl scout website. Grateful to find what I needed close to home. :-) #handworks #danville #girlscouts #brownies
Updated my review because of poor customer service the last few times I visited. I tried to return an item and the cashier told me he didn't know how to do refunds/credits and asked me to come back when the owner was there. I couldn't get there on that day so stopped by when I could and the same guy reprimanded me "why you not come back when I told you?!" he told me to try again another day. I was annoyed and wouldn't have cone back but I wanted my refund! came back again, ON the day he told me and missed the owner again! this time I told him how inconvenient and unprofessional this was. he called the owner who talked him through how to do a return in less than 5 minutes. then he told me he never wanted to do that again because he doesn't like doing returns. Wow... I've worked retail and any of my employers would have given me the boot for that type of incompetent customer service. Well, from now own I'm limiting my purchases to Girl Scouts loot. - Zahir J.Danville, CA01Jul 19, 2015
