Do they charge for parking?

You get a stub when you arrive. If you are attending an event, staying at the hotel or eating at one of their restaurants, they will validate the parking so there is no cost. Basically... if you are there for anything, they will not charge you when… more

Touring San Diego colleges & Handlery was the perfect location.
Check in was fast & easy. Hotel rates very reasonable & parking is $18 per day.
Our room oversized, older but very clean!!! Lemongrass lotions & soaps were fresh & clean. Housekeeping was Excellent. Large balcony.
Bar & restaurant had great service & food was good. Snack room w/microwave for popcorn. I found this property very family friendly.
Pool are large w/huge jacuzzi. I met people from Germany, Utah & Palm Springs.
This property is older BUT I found it to be extremely clean, no trash or towels laying around. Suggest an inside room off the freeway.
I would stay there again. Value, location & friendly staff.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 6, 2024
Review is for the meeting space in the Garden room only: 3.5 stars.
- Came for a 2 day training event, we got "light breakfast, refreshments, and lunch" provided.
- Overall decent experience in a older but clean hotel (aside from the expired yogurt, see below).
- Speaker audio was good (they gave a handheld mic and a lapel mic) but the speaker podium could have been better (she had issues with using presenter view on the PowerPoint and they couldn't assist with correcting that).
- Room was a bit stuffy and needed ventilation despite keeping the door propped open.
- Lighting could be better - was hard to see the projector without turning off all the lights (which is hard for those of us trying to take notes during our 16h training).
- Staff kept clanking plates in the back during our training, which was distracting when we're trying to listen to the lecturer.
Light breakfast (buffet style) consisted of:
- hard boiled eggs
- oatmeal with raisin & brown sugar on the side
- Damon yogurt: plain & strawberry flavor (on the second day we found out they gave us yogurt that was expired for 1 month already)
- and fruit tray (strawberry, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, pineapple).
There was coffee (choice of regular or vanilla creamer), decaf, assorted tea, orange juice, and cranberry juice (Juice was provided for breakfast only). Assorted tea (with lemon wedges) included:
- black tea
- lemon lift
- sweet dreams
- Orange & spice
- Green tea with pomegranate
- cozy camomile
- English Breakfast black tea
Lunch (buffet style) consisted of:
- lemon chicken piccata (pretty decent)
- garden salad (choice of ranch dressing or balsamic)
- garlic mashed potatoes
- noodles - their vegetarian option (barely edible)
- market (steamed) veggies
- choice of 3 dessert cakes: s'mores (just so so), cheesecake (not bad), carrot cake (pretty good, has cream cheese)
Parking:
Adequate parking lot
Bathrooms:
- clean but small and older stalls
- 2 bathrooms available close by, one with 3 stalls and a (much) smaller one with 2 stalls
Not sure how much it cost the organizers to put on the event here, I hope it wasn't too much given our experience. The highlight was definitely the garden attached to our meeting room.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 22, 2024
I've come here bow on multiple occasions. I love this hotel!
First, let's talk pool. Wow! It's huge and we'll taken care of. It is the central point of the hotel. From the pool, you can get to pretty much any point in the hotel. I love lounging here and over looking the pool when utilizing the gym.
Second, FOOD! My favorite part of anywhere I go. The hotel features two restaurants- the tomi themed bar and the actual restaurant. I've definitely had my fair share of drinks and snacks at the tiki place. The restaurant is my go to place for more extensive meals. For breakfast, highly recommend the French toast. It is crusted in cereal to give it a crunch while being soft and delicious on the inside. Add some fruit and syrup and you got yourself a great breakfast.
For lunch, I highly recommend the Asian salad. Add the shrimp to it. I promise, you won't regret it. The use of pear in this salad makes it so unique and fresh.
Third, I love the philanthropy of the organization like holding the Red Cross biggest blood drive in San Diego or helping families who lost their homes during the flooding. Doing good for the community is just more reason I want to support this hotel.
Last but not least, their ne2 calendar of events is becoming super epic! From beer fests to Jazz listening parties- I can't wait to attend all the events.
Seriously, this hotel has it all and I can't recommend it enough.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Carolina R.Compton, CA091Apr 21, 2024
Nice staff, nice room !! I just didn't like that you have to pay for parking.. you have to pay for your coffee, that should already come with. Loved the pool and jacuzzi area!!!

Do not hold your events here or attend any events that are held here. I was here for a work event and a few minutes after I arrived I had to walk out!
An oblivious employee was walking around spraying some awful scented deodorizer. He was spraying over and over and over every couple of steps he took all up and down the hallway. There is absolutely no good reason why anyone needs to be spraying that much scented deodorizer in an enclosed space full of people! The scent was immediately in my nose and throat and I had to get OUT! Other people were scrunching up their faces & coughing too but homeboy just kept going and spraying despite people choking. Even when I went outside to get some fresh air I could still smell that disgusting scent. What in God's au de toilet is going on at this place that they need to be spraying that much scented deodorizer??? It's unhealthy for people to be breathing that stuff in as is, but at the quantity of shizzzzz this place is exposing people to... they NEED to slap a Proposition 65 warning on every entry door into this facility!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Melvin V.San Diego, CA093Jan 30, 2024
Our stay at the Handlery Hotel this past weekend was mediocre at best. Our room was non smoking, but badly smelled of cigarettes. Although the issue was fixed it took much too long for resolve. Rooms were all outdated, the staff was pretty friendly. Top feature was the pool, which we did actually enjoy.

Another conference was a success thanks to the excellent service at Handlery. Breakfast was beautifully presented. Evening bar service was friendly and attentive. The training room was set up exactly to our specifications. A special thank you to Estela for organizing and charming Enrique for tracking down my lost item. Can't wait to return!

AnnMarie worked with our budget and got us everything we needed without the pricey frills. As a former Ritz concierge, there is a special place in my heart for customer service. This place is the real deal with longtime employees that feel like family. Stephanie made sure our group got checked in with no glitches. Heaven's breakfast service fit her name. I hope you find someone who looks at you like Victor looks at his customers when he brings their coffee. Rafi made sure our conference space was spotless. Jim. I can't say enough about Jim who taught me how to work our presentation equipment. After our conference, Lupe at the Reef Lounge made me the best margarita I ever had my life. And then a piña colada because by then he was just showing off. The room was clean. The bed was divine. The jacuzzi was hot. If it doesn't look like the shiniest place from the street outside, all I can say is they don't make 'em like this anymore. Our group was small, but they were telling me about some of the 200-500 person groups they've hosted recently with buffets, spacious gathering rooms, and a beautiful enclosed back lawn with columns perfect for a wedding or garden party. Some of us took an easy walk on the sidewalks over to Fashion Valley Mall after our meeting. Just great all around.

Came here for a work event and was lost in the hotel lobby so I asked the security guard at the front (first person you see when you enter) how to get to the Garden Room. Which is a conference hall that was booked for us. No greeting, no acknowledgment until I asked him. He said he didn't know and to ask the concierge at the desk directly to the right of him. There was no one sitting there and it looked like someone was on their break in the back room. So, I walked back over to the security guard (back on his phone again) to let him know that no one is there, he doesn't say anything to me and continues on in his phone. I moved on and found the room eventually.
Poor customer service. I'm sure security is a third party vendor but that doesn't meant service/respect should go out the window. I would also like to think security would know where large conference rooms are located in the event of an emergency and overall safety protocols.
The conference had great food and table side service. The outdoor area where weddings are held is a quaint little hidden spot that was beautiful under the sun. Had it not been for the food and the ambiance, I would give this hotel one star.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julie O.Santa Clarita, CA12153437Feb 13, 2024
Yes! If Julia is working at the restaurant bar! She's the best! The bar has great service, great happy hour and great service! The lobby is so clean and everyone is so kind.

I came here for a conference last week, and was pretty impressed. I stayed in a wing off of the main building. It was very clean and came with a small refrigerator, which was great for storing snacks that I brought along with me. The catering we had daily was really good (not typically the case with conference food!) and the staff members were all very kind and attentive. The building itself is kitschy with some throwback Three's Company vibes (think lots of wood, greenery and a few tiki statues here and there) which is right up my alley. We have plans to come to SD for a concert in a few weeks and booked a room here as it's also very reasonably priced and centrally located.
