Great variety and the service is always terrific!
If you're in the mood for homemade ice cream than this is your spot!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Clark G.IL, IL043Apr 6, 2024
Ice cream is amazing but they have the worst systems I've ever seen.
Over 40 minutes waiting in line because they have people take your order, walk to a cash register, come back with your total, take your card, then they go scoop your flavors and bring them back 1 by 1.
Unbearably long wait anytime the weather is even kind of nice outsideHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello Clark,
We apologize for your long wait. It was a very busy day with many of our loyal customers coming back from spring break. We have many new employees in April and May as we hire and train new staff for the season. Lines will definitely start moving faster as they get up to speed.
Again, we're sorry for the lengthy wait to receive your product.

Wasn't overly impressed. I can't understand why a person would have an ice cream store that you can only order at a window instead of coming inside...in a state that has freezing weather!! Makes sense for Florida but not Indiana.
Ordered 2 scoops in a bowl- came out in a cone- reminded was supposed to be in a bowl and the girl just got a small bowl and dumped the cone out in it..mixing the 2 flavors together so it was one big glob mess in a little bowl... (regret having tipped her with that behavior!) Prices are average.
Not sure would come back when visiting the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 35138486Dec 23, 2023
Handel's ice cream is waaaaay too good considering it is a nationwide chain! How do they maintain such excellent consistency everywhere?
I have no problems with the ice cream itself. My strawberry cheesecake hurricane with added reeses pieces was great and at 5 bucks for a "small" is better than DQ, but I hate how, at this location, it is walk-up only! Who wants to sit in their car, shoveling quickly melting ice cream in their mouth like a loser? I'm sure I'm not the only person who wants to have their sweet treat sitting down inside the actual ice cream store. I also feel bad for the workers who have to keep walking back and forth each time someone wants one sample. It makes the sample trying experience not even worth it.
There has to be a better way. Ice cream should be an indulgence that should be an experience itself - but here, getting ice cream makes me feel shameful and depressed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 3, 2023
Alice Handel began making her delicious recipe for homemade ice cream in 1945. Generation after generation, they continue the same tradition of making each batch fresh daily in store to this day.
You can find a hundred different flavors to packed in a sugar cone, cake cone, waffle cone (dipped in chocolate), or a waffle bowl. 5 different toppings are offered of carmel, strawberry, marshmallow, and hot fudge topped with whipped cream, then topped with a cherry. Today, I ordered the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae in a cup. I chose the salted carmel ice cream with chunks of chocolate and carmel. It was piled high with ice cream and topped off with tons of whipped cream and finally nuts and a cherry.
Sigi ordered two scoops, one of pistachio, and the other was salted caramel topped with whipped cream in a bowl. Jeanie ordered 2 scoops of chocolate piled high in a cone. I made a mess of my white blouse, but it was delicious. Sigi liked hers as well, and Jeanie too, but she couldn't keep up with the melting ice cream cone, being we were sitting outdoors in the 90° heat.
We arrived just before a group appeared behind us. Be prepared to stand while you wait to place your order. There are benches close by on the side of the building to sit on afterward.
I love their ice cream. The server was friendly and very efficient and handled the rush timely and alone. Stop in and grab a scoop.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Derek M.Noblesville, IN011Apr 23, 2024
Typically pleased with my experience here, but tonight was not good at all. I ordered a Reese's pieces hurricane that had about 5 Reese's pieces in it. When I asked the employee about it, they told me they put the right amount in and shrugged his shoulders. Poor customer service and won't return.

If you are an icecream fan like I am, then handles icecream is for you. I absolutely cannot get enough of their icecream. My favorite flavor is s'mores. I wish they had it year round. All of their locations are great to visit. The staff is friendly and a joy to talk with. I would recommend this place to everyone!

I am definitely a regular at Handels Carmel so won't spend more time raving about the seasonal flavors, the regulars and the massive scoop sizes - those are always the best. But what beats me is the never ending wait time every single time you visit. It doesn't change no matter what hour or day you visit. I had to pick a butter pecan & chocolate cake batter waffle cone and a pup cone. Just this got me a 35 min wait. The public was frustrated and customers began reminding the servers of the long unending lines. Handles does need to change its serving process!

The portions are huge! My favorite scoop is Chocolate Raspberry. I especially love the huge chunks of chocolate wrapped in raspberry surprising your taste buds every now and then. The seasonal flavors are great and I never am disappointed with the new flavors. Great place to hang out with family and friends in summer - open queue concept and lots of parking available at the Carmel location.
Sep 21, 2020Previous reviewHandel's Carmel is my go to ice cream spot all summer! And my favorite scoop is Chocolate raspberry. The chunks of chocolate melting in your mouth and the tangy raspberry bursting fruity goodness with chocolate rolling all over. It really couldn't get any better. I tried cherry vanilla for the first time, must say love the tart cherry with vanilla. Handel's speciality of blending sweet and tart flavors or any alternate flavors otherwise is what makes them the best ice cream ever!
COVID update* Masks worn by staff at all time.Jun 6, 2020Previous review1st time and so so so in love with the flavors! Chocolate raspberry truffle is my absolute fav. Love the chunks of chocolate and the tangy raspberry bits mixed with chocolaty goodness. The pineapple sorbet was really tart, just not my taste. Graham central station is another goodness filled with delicious crumbly bits of cracker flavor. Must visit - long lines of course, you do have to wait for 10-15 mins in summer!

Ice cream flavors are hit n miss here. This was a hot day so I went for something refreshing: pineapple and orange sherbet. The first few bites were good then just seemed to have a weird texture: almost gritty? I've had some other good flavors here and they have huge menu; just don't recommend the sherbets.
