I've been here countless times throughout the years, and always enjoy the food. As far as service goes- I do wish it were a bit more personal. It is usually efficient though. LOVE that patio : ()
My favorite menu item is the lobster hot and sour soup. It's unbelievable. The sushi is always amazing. I've tried at least 6 different rolls, and they've all impressed. Haiku often has sushi specials in the evening so ask about that.
I really like their Phad Thai, but it's strange that the menu doesn't clarify whether or not it comes with your choice of meat, and if so how much extra that is. I've never left this place unhappy so it will continue to stay in my rotation.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 16, 2016
Great ambiance, meh food. Soft shelled crab was good, and boyfriend LOVED his seaweed salad, but other than that we were underwhelmed. Tried a few sushi rolls, spicy Cali, a yellowtail with scallions, and a rainbow roll. None were bad, they just all tasted the same, and like I said, a little underwhelming. Price was great though.
Will probably return to try the hot meals and for the convenience of the $5 valet parking lot.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tiffany D.Columbus, OH1292385Jun 4, 2016
This is the second time I've eaten here and both times they were busy but we had very little or no wait to be seated. Last time we ate inside which a little bit cold for me but others seemed fine. This time we ate outside on their patio which is covered so even if it starts raining (which is was) you won't get wet. The hosts and waitstaff were really friendly and helpful when ordering if we had any questions. Last time we ordered the dim sum, haiku roll, yama yama roll (to me this tastes like a large fair all rolled into sushi), spider roll, dragon roll, and Philadelphia roll. All of them were delicious! The sauce that comes with the dim sum was great! All the cuts of fish were extremely fresh and the rolls were perfectly cold enough and warm enough (depending on the type of roll). The waitress told us which was which when she brought them out.
This visit we had the soft shell crab as an appetizer which was smaller than we thought but still really delicious. The lime vinaigrette was so so good so make sure you're dipping in that! We then got the yama yama roll and haiku roll again because we loved them from last time. We tried the harvest roll which was similar to the yama yama but more like fall and not as much like fair food. We also tried the veggie fotomaki roll which is pickled Japanese veggies. It was good but nothing to rave about.
Overall a great dining experience. The barstaff is also very friendly and helpful and the bar is small but sufficient for this type of establishment. The decor is art, fountains, and other arty things to create a really great vibe. Prefect for a date or grabbing dinner and drinks with friends! Highly recommend the yama yama roll!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ryan T.Columbus, OH8163428Jun 29, 2016
Went here with a big party of 17, food took an hour and a half to come out... I understand we were a big party, but service was very slow and at one point one of my friends had to steal a pitcher of water for the table because of the lack of service
Some of us had sushi which was decent, the dragon roll being the best roll out of the 6 I tried.
However, the other people who got hot dishes like pad Thai, fried rice, hot noodle soup or curry--half of their dishes came out soggy and cold (aka it was obvious that it was siting out for a while).
The interior/ aesthetics are very pretty but not very not functional. at least 4 people hit their head on the dangling lights.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place for large parties due to subpar food and service (this is also coming from west coast standards).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 391355837Jul 26, 2012Updated review
Still loving on Haiku.
The rolls, especially for a vegetarian, are creative and have a wonderful blend of flavors.
The true fish sushi rolls are beautifully presented.
We've brought guests here from the Pacific coast who mentioned the sushi rivaled what they had from home.
My go to's as a veg:
Yama Roll
Harvest Roll
Pad/pah Thai - be sure to request no fish sauce
tofu lettuce wraps
curry coconut noodle (served with hard boiled egg halves)
bonzai udon - udon noodles & vegetables in a japanese broth, request vegetarian broth
I love the sushi chefs - very sweet guys once you get them talking :)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 16, 2011Previous reviewOk... I'm so guilty of loving Haiku. Used to hate it about 7 years ago based on bad-attitude service. Now, I've kissed the frog and made up.
Lunches are great: you get soup and a sesame-dressed salad with whatever you order.
Weekend evenings, while packed, are even better. Live old-school crooner type music with keys, drums and strings is the perfect way to punctuate a late evening with a slow dance.
Not for the faint-of-wallet, start off with one of the fantastic cocktails - My favs are the Screamin' Lychee and the Lily. The Screaming Lychee is a jalapeno-infused vodka with a float of lychee juice. Sometimes you will get a lychee fruit in the bottom. The Lily is a Saketini featuring cold sake, pama and elderflower liquer. Super tasty and refreshing, it borders on too sweet, but doesn't *quite* hit that threshold. A big (22oz ?) Asahi or Kirin will set you back about $7.
As a vegetarian, I'm madly in love with their harvest roll and the newer Yama Yama. The Yama Yama has cream cheese, tempura yams and avocado in a rice paper wrap. I prefer to change it up and have 2 yam, cream cheese and add the pecans. I also recently expanded my paradigm and tried the Sesame Asparagus roll which comes with a sesame paste to dip in. It's good but out-shadowed by the other two.
The carnivore that co-habitates loves the Dragon Ball roll (eel, masgo, and a couple other items), the Crunching Buckeye (pecans) and the Teriyaki Salmon.
My coworkers and my carnivore are big fans of the chicken lettuce wraps.
Check them out for a prix fix menu during restaurant weeks. - Dec 30, 2015
Haiku used to be one of my favorite restaurants for sushi in Columbus, but I'm afraid that in the last few years the quality has gone down. We tried in again a few weeks ago to see if things had changed for the better, and unfortunately not.
I'd still recommend getting their combination sushi and sashami for two. It is pretty good, and 40 pieces for $55 is a pretty good deal. But the caliber of the sushi has gone down. I also like their dragon roll and the spider roll. The inside of the restaurant is somewhat grungy --- the low lighting doesn't do anything for me. Outside seating in the summer in short north is fun. They also have their own parking lot with valet parking which is a huge bonus!
Since this was one of my favorites at one time, I will periodically go back hoping for better resutls ;).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kelsey R.Detroit, MI61019Jun 30, 2015
I've been to Haiku a handful of times over the past ~7 years, and it can be hit or miss. However, my sushi this evening was exceptional. The High St Roll was okay - not nearly as flavorful as I would've expected for what was in it - but the Harvest Roll was so phenomenally good, it blew everything else away. Seriously, you won't regret ordering it. I was uncertain if I really wanted squash on a pleasant summer evening, but it was not what I anticipated & exceeded what I thought I could have in terms of vegetarian sushi. Five stars for the Harvest Roll alone.
Additionally - the patio is such a nice atmosphere in the summer. We went early enough that it wasn't crowded and loud, late enough that it had the summer patio, perfect for relaxing at the end of the day vibe.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kinsey C.Indianapolis, IN217498172Aug 9, 2016
Do you like sushi? Do you like gorgeous and soothing outdoor patios? Do you like valet? If you don't I'm not sure we are on the same wavelength. Haiku fulfilled my sushi loving ways with great atmosphere to boot.
If the weather is nice, do yourself a favor and sit outside on the covered patio. It is calm and serene in some spots, and bustling and primo for people watching in others. Service is pretty good on the patio, although I found myself having to ask for refills instead of the waitstaff taking care of it.
The sushi was great. Shrimp tempura was my favorite. Each member of my dining party enjoy their meal!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Dave T.Columbus, OH38242Aug 12, 2016
It's very unfortunate that the place is rather dirty inside. Tables sticky. Menus w spilled stuff on them. Even the candle placed at our table was in a REAL scummy glass. Whoever is in charge here needs a visit from Gordon Ramsey.

This was my first time here. I've known about this place for however many years they've been open but never really thought about going. That is until Jessica H. offered to be my guide during lunch yesterday. This was particularly nice as I got to do both Japanese style and vegetarian ( well I got some salmon ) all in one trip.
This restaurant has a very pleasant vibe to it. Nicely done interior befitting an upscale Japanese establishment.
Service was very attentive. Most people were outside on the nice patio so we almost had the place for ourselves.
I'm definitely impressed with this place. Started off with some miso soup and a salad. Moved on to some vegetarian Phad Thai which, while not the best I've ever had, was still very good none the less. ( I kicked it up a bit with some chili oil ).
We had three different types of sushi, my fave being the Harvest Roll. Wonderful flavors all coming together. A little ginger on top, a splash of soy sauce and I'm a happy eater.
Plenty of leftovers for take away so I had plenty to nibble on for the rest of the evening.
Good food, good company, good conversation = A good afternoon. I will be back.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
