Haewadall offers some rarer dishes that I wasn't able to fully appreciate. However, my wife really liked them. I just do not enjoy organs yet. The variety in the side dishes here was very appreciated.
Note that a lot of their dishes are huge so it's best to come here with a larger group.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 4, 2024
Haewadall is one of my family's go to spots whenever we're visiting Chicago. They have a wide array of dishes and every single entree we've tried has been amazing. If you're a fan of pork belly, I'd suggest giving the bossam a try (one of my personal favorites). It's a wrap using salted cabbage, boiled pork belly, and various toppings, such as seasoned oysters, which makes it a unique combination of flavors in each bite. Their food tastes authentic and is a hit even with my parents so be sure to give it a try when you're craving Korean food.

Found beside the strip mall close to my favorite Korean Salon.Yangmi..
When you step in you will hear the loud chatter of young and old Koreans so you will know for sure that this place is good.. We had a very energetic male server who really took great care of us.. Even showed us that the radish kimchi will taste better mixed with rice..
I loved the atmosphere and was excired for our orders..
Seafood Pancake was crunchy on the edges and flvor was good..
Bossam was so tender.. you can taste the flavor when it was boiled.. especially when you make ssam with fresh garlic.. SO YUMMY!!!
Yukgaejang.. so far the best from all the korean restaurants that i have eaten.. just enough spice but the flavor is there...
We were not anle to get a picture of the Galbi but it was soooo good and tender..
Highly recommend and will keep coming back to try the other dishesHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 970184Apr 21, 2023
Maybe I had high expectations from reading the great reviews but I wasn't very impressed by the food here. Sure, it tasted good and I'm glad I tried it once, but I wouldn't come back. Growing up in a Korean household may have set the bar too high. The best-tasting dish I got was probably their kimchi (which is free) or their seafood pancake (an appetizer).

I think Haewadall changed owners within the last few months. The bossam is no longer as good as before. It tasted like it's been reheated several times; aka there's a roughness to the meat and it's not as naturally sweet as before. In addition, they wanted to charge extra for lettuce; which is a bit ridiculous for a Korean place.
Furthermore, their banchan (side dishes) now lack flavor and their kimchi is over-ripe. Their pork cutlet sauce recipe also changed (but this changed even before the alleged ownership change) and is very buttery tasting, not the traditional vinegar base tonkatsu sauce.
Having said all that, their jokbal is still good and same as before; tender and well marinated.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Aug 17, 2019Previous reviewMy new favorite bossam place. The meat and oysters were fresh and the portions were generous. They also have a very good pork cutlet; it Thick and crunchy. My husband is Korean and approves. He also overheard the old korean men next to us saying that this place's jokbal is better than Chang Choong Dong. Can't wait to come back and try it.

This is definitely one of my favorite Korean restaurant in IL!
The service is always good here and I love that they have call buttons so it makes it easier to communicate with their servers. Their napkin dispensers are attached to the wall so it's shared in between tables if you're sitting close to a wall.
If you're having a soju type of night, you need to order their bossam or jokbal. Both of the entrees are always so juicy and flavorful! You will not be disappointed. It's a pretty big serving so you can share it with 2-3 people.
Their spicy army stew is also delicious! There's a ton of meat in the stew and it comes with melted cheese on top of the stew. The spicy stew has hotdogs, spam, kimchi, ramen, and veggies.
I always order their steamed egg whenever I'm here because it's so good with rice. You definitely have to try it here!
They charge $1 for take out boxes so I always try to eat everything when I'm here. :) No leftovers!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Richard Y.Buffalo Grove, IL1192Aug 23, 2023
Average, lacks flavor
Very good service, they charge for to go boxes
We both got stews and they were a lot worse than hwang dae gam in mundelein, or for matter, worse than any of the gamjatang we've had beforeHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nina A.Schaumburg, IL229343Jun 5, 2023
My boyfriend and I were in the area and wanted GOOD food after a disappointing night market. He remembered going to Haewadall a couple years back and liking the food, so we decided to check it out. Walking in we saw a bunch of older Korean men (good sign of good food). The place was very busy and loud! But we did go on a Friday night, so do with that info as y. We ordered kimchi Jun and the haemul jjim. Food was good and service was very friendly, our server made sure I got pictures before cutting up our seafood :) took off a star because we felt like for the price we paid for the haemul jjim ($52.99) wasn't worth it because after a few bites of seafood we were left with a bunch of soy sprouts.
