This place is perfect. As some German locals said to us, "how did you find this place?!". A complete gem, outside of the touristy/busy areas. You're greeted by a taxidermied horse, which whinneys every time someone enters, and you're served by an ancient Yugoslavian. Absolutely fantastic.
The place inside is small, and you can smoke inside! Which, being English, is very exciting. We spent most of our time in the area outside, as the inside was very full, but towards the end of the night we headed back in. All in all, we had the night of our lives. Amazing atmosphere, extremely cheap drinks (4 beers for less than €10!!) and great people.
I'm just sad that I don't live nearby so that I can visit every day, as this place was perfect. Also got free schnapps from the guy who runs the place, because he is great.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Aug 1, 2016
Now this is one cool bar, though it can be very, very difficult to get it. In fact it is a bit of a hike from the city, hidden in a back street among apparentments, which means that it is really quite, and generally only the locals know about it, so don't expect the bartender to either speak, or want to speak, English. However the atmopshere is nothing short of awesome, and the staff pretty friendly. While I wouldn't go as far as calling it a dive bar, it does have a style all of its own - in fact I would go as far as calling it unique (at least where I am concerned). Mind you, once you know where it is it is pretty easy to find - just look for the red carriage out the front. Actually, I probably should also mention that it is a basement bar, which adds to its awesomness (though you can smoke inside, should you might need to be aware of that if you don't particularly like smoke).

Very cool bar located off the beaten path in Frankfurt. This place is located amidst a residential community and is literally secluded from the street, which makes it very tough to find. I can't speak for the food, but the brew here is pretty good and headlined by the typical German Pilsners. The overall ambiance and vibe make this little pub a hidden gem.
Pros-
Friendly staff
Great brew
Nice secluded building
Tree coverage
Cons-
Tough to find

This is Ivo's bar. He is a Yugoslavian Godfather that has been running this place for decades. The minute you step in, a giant life sized mare greets you. No menus, no fixed pricing, no BS.
4 pints came to €10.2, which came with a round of shots and a basket of peanut butter crisps.
This is a local gem. This is Ivo's bar.

Stopped in for a beer because of the Yelp reviews. It seemed as if the owner knew no English because when I asked him what beers he has he just poured me one. Small location and if you hate smoke stay away. The suspended chairs were a cool touch and the decor is fun in a weird way. I think this is a cool place to stop in with friends but don't go solo.

Great small bar, inexpensive beer a few blocks from the trade fair in Frankfurt (walkable from the Main train station). Stayed at a hotel nearby and visited, plan to go back before I leave Frankfurt.

Has to be one of the most unique small bars I have been to. Apparently owned and operated by same man for 30+ years. He served us our beers the old fashioned way that took 5 mins to properly pour our .5 L tap beer.
You are greeted by an authentic life size horse (sounds creepy but kinda cool too) and matching neigh and whinnies every time door opens. We sat on swings at life size barrel bar.
Drinks were great price too, about half what we paid elsewhere.
Unique experience definitely and a must see if you are staying in Frankfurt.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Gilford S.Austin, TX644287Apr 23, 2013Updated review
Ultimate dive bar run by a nutter
Hard to describe. The guy has chain link swing seats from a carnival carousel for bar stools. Agree with other commenter they are uncomfortable. But Ivo the owner doesn't care cause he's arguably nuts. Giant life sized mare winnies at you when you open the door. Takes up enough room to add a couple of tables but Ivo doesn't care cause he's nuts. Dirt cheap beer. "Both kinds" of wine i.e. red and white. Don't think there's food... maybe some potato chips. Clientele are the nutters in the neighborhood
This is one for people who love dive bars. Wear shabby clothes as Ivo charges based on your appearance as far as I can tell.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 1, 2011Previous reviewCult bar in Gallusviertel. Star power comes frpm proprieter Ivo a Yugoslavian guy probably 70 years old. He kind of opens the bar when he feels like it. Prices are anyone's guess. If you drink enough he'll makke you a complementary "mystery shot" out of some Yugo-booze as you pay your bill.
He's got a full size stuffed horse that winneys at you when you open the door. Bar seats are from a carnicval ride.. Basicaly the guy#s a bit nuts but locals love him. Definitely worth a visit and one cannot give Ivo less than 5 stars. - Chris F.London, United Kingdom7625311494Jan 16, 2013Updated review
What an odd little place. Definitely well worth a visit, but I couldn't imagine becoming a regular.
There is a horse noise when you enter, to go with the large horse replica immediately to the left inside. This takes up half the bar and if there are people crowding the bar, as there were, then it is not easy to get to the couple of tables they have at the back.
This is a shame as instead of bar stools to sit on by the counter they have swings hanging from the ceiling. This has great novelty value, but they're not particularly comfortable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Nov 7, 2012Previous reviewWhat
