I was looking for a gold coin from my moms birthday and decided to shop locally rather than purchase it on the Internet. I had a wonderful experience at the Guilford coin exchange.The man I met with was very patient and kind and thoroughly explained the different types of coins and sizes and prices and spent a lot of time educating me. I ended up buying her a 1 ounce gold eagle coin which I know she'll be thrilled with! I would highly recommend visiting the Guilford Coin Exchange!

I do not understand why a few people have written negative reviews for Guilford Coin Exchange. I have bought and sold a variety of coins from Steve, his daughter, Kate, and others in the store for more than 12 years. By this time, they know me and have always treated me with respect. More importantly, over the years, I have watched them dealing with other customers. It doesn't matter if it is an elderly person reluctantly parting with a small family heirloom because they need the money or a someone who drops $100K in gold coins on the counter and wants a check right away! I've patiently waited in line while they took as much time as necessary to care for and educate someone even if it is a small dollar transaction. It's always fun and a learning experience to listen in and appreciate the wealth of knowledge that Steve and his team have.
I had a relative in New York who was a real "gold bug" and had dealt with every dealer in the City. After introducing her to Steve, she came to Guilford for all of her transactions.
In my opinion, Guilford Coin Exchange is the "Gold Standard"!

I have been buying and selling bullion for over 10 years to coin stores and the best and only coin store I deal with is Guilford coin exchange. They pay great prices for bullion and sell at a very fair price. That's why for me Guilford coin exchange is the best of the best.

I had coin to exchange! I went here and was very happy with the service! The gentleman was very pleasant and I received the best rate for the day! They are very honest and I wouldn't hesitate to bring any silver or gold there for an appraisal.

Very nice guys. Drove up from Fairfield. Any LCS I've been to from Westport to Seymour is the same condescending and negative store owner/manager who doesn't seem to enjoy what they're doing.

Not here. Was helped by a young woman and two older gentlemen. All three were pleasant and helpful. Prices below mmost other stores I've been too on some stuff. Higher than i would like on others.

They offer a very cool auction wall where you can bid on various customer submitted numis.

Didn't buy as much as I had planned but walked out with 10x 1/10 AGE at a very fair price and 2x NTR 10 oz silver bars at a fair price.

Will return again. And anYone else struggle long to find a gOod LCS in Fairfield county should make the quick trip up 95.

I stopped in here a few weeks ago to sell some old jewelry I found while quarantine cleaning. I stopped at a few chain places to get estimates and just didn't feel comfortable parting with the jewelry for the price they offered. I stopped in here as a last resort just to see what they'd say. I spoke with Mike about what I had to sell and felt so much more confident in my choice to sell. He was personable and knowledgeable and the price they gave was the best out of the 4-5 places I stopped in! I look forward to doing business with them again!

Generally fair on precious metals that they buy. However I would check around with major national dealers as well such as Apmex or Heritage Auctions. Do your own due diligence as trust in this business is only as good as the transaction they do with you. This is a highly competitive business.

If your not willing to spend a hundred dollars online for the free shipping than this is a great place to consider for purchasing coins or bullion. Thier buy prices for items you wish to sell are generally fair as well.

This should be a four star rating but I knocked one star off because this is a funny place to visit. One day you can walk in there and the atmosphere is friendly and on another day they can be somewhat rude. Not sure what the inconsistant manner of that is about but it's noticable.

Otherwise I highly recommend this store.

My father and I always used to buy collectable coins from this store when I was little. It is the only store we purchased coins from.

I went down today with a multitude of coins that we had purchased from here, expecting maybe $20 from the amount of silver and half dollars I had accumulated as well as whole dollar coins. I am a poor college student so I was very hopeful that Steve or someone would be able to give me a good quote.

I sat down with some gentleman in front as he very rudely asked if I needed help, as if it was so difficult to ask! I asked for a simple quote on what my coins would be worth, he poured them out from my bag on the glass counter, and after 10 seconds of looking he said there was absolutely no value at all.

How can you say that when I have $6.50 of just half dollars alone in normal value? Pathetic. Don't bother here, they don't want to make any business.

Worst experience ever!!! DON'T GO THERE!!! I called to find out if they had a specific coin there and they said yes and I asked their form of payment and they said CASH is preferred but also takes bank check and money order so I asked if I needed to bring anything else and the man on the phone said not if you are paying cash. paid for an Uber ride to get there as I am not driving because of a hand injury so when I was ready to pay for my coins (with cash mind you ) the lady there says we need your license to do the transaction. I told her I didn't have it with me as it was a cash transaction ( under any restricted amount ) and I didn't drive there so I didn't know that I would need it Mind you I came from over an hour away. That's when this disheveled man next to the cashier lady said they could not sell any coins (not even 1 coin! )to me without a license for a cash transaction. Well I was not told that on the phone when I called and asked that morning before I took the long ride over there !!! He then said you are doing wrong and you are not allowed to come back to the store - I asked him how am I doing wrong when you or one of your workers told me exactly what I needed to bring with me ? Are you kidding me ??!!!Well I called a higher up legal attorney when I left who will be investigating this place that says you DO NOT have to provide a license unless you are purchasing a large amount (over ten thousand dollars) which was not the case and they were rude obnoxious and definitely did not look or act professional in any way. Buyer beware !!!! Many better and nicer more professional places that will gladly do business during these challenging times without the lies and attitude. The dirty old clothes and long greasy hair on the men that work there made them look like they were homeless people -not business owners Yuck !!!! Stay away from this place !!!!!!!
