Great vegan food for a great price - the portions are large enough for a second meal to take home!
The seaweed salad is quite big, but has other types of greens mixed in (think iceberg lettuce).
They have a fairly priced weekend buffet on the 3rd Sunday of every month, which can at times be busy. Weeknights are rarely crowded.
I also recommend stopping by FoMu next door for dessert (vegan ice-cream!)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Linda G.Boston, MA2823Feb 1, 2024Updated review
I love Grasshopper. It offers a wide variety of choices that are all vegan. Their vegan beef and broccoli is phenomenal! My husband who is not vegan thoroughly enjoys that dish as well. I love many of the options myself. I wish there were more restaurants like Grasshopper. Sometimes I buy several luncheon dishes and freeze them for later. Thank you Grasshopper for being progressive.

Vegan restaurant with typical Chinese takeout-style food. Dishes are not authentic - think Panda Express but vegan - but they do a pretty good job of using meat substitutes. We got the house special assorted appetizers (standout were the vermicelli hand rolls, all other apps were not very flavorful), the sweet and sour sensation (soy protein here looked like tofu and some pieces were not fully battered), the no name (I definitely recommend if you're going for something close to the texture of meat), and the sizzling platter (good black bean sauce).
Each dish was fairly cheap for the amount of food and I would definitely come back to try other things on the menu.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 70020462047Apr 3, 2024
Worst meal I've had in Boston. My dish was described as spicy but it was not in the least. It was half cold, which I think was due to lack of cooking because some of my friends were done eating by the time mine came out, almost like mine was forgotten. It also seemed forgotten because it had such massive pieces of pepper, a few about 1/6 the size of a pepper itself.

The best! If we lived closer we would be here twice a week. The place is vegan paradise.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 14, 2023Previous reviewWe drive 40 miles to eat here at least 6 times a year. If we lived closer it would be every week. We love the hot & sour soup, the pepper beef, " no name", and grasshopper supreme. The best vegan Chinese food we have found. Great friendly staff.
Aug 18, 2019Previous reviewIf you love great food and have no bias against a meat free selection you need to try Grasshopper. If you are vegan you will be comforted that you can choose any item on the menu. If you are not vegan and open to new things you will really love the dishes they have that replicate animal proteins. The standards for our family are Peppered Beef, No Name, and Grasshopper Supreme. These dishes are served family style.
May 25, 2016Previous reviewEvery time we go to Grasshopper it is amazing. Our favorites are No Name, Pepper Beef, Hot and Sour Soup, Won Ton Soup, and Grasshopper Supreme. However everything on the menu is amazing!!! This is the place!!

So now, another year later from ordering from here the first time. I have to say that it is one of my go to for Chinese food and I love love love the fact that I can order anything I want and it'll show up vegan and they'll be no misery later. I'm always in doubt of ordering off a menu that says "steak" but it's actually slabs of tofu and a really awesome sauce with tons of veggies on a bead of sauté spinach. It doesn't sound so great in writing but trust me ...divine. They make vegan hot sour soup, although I think it does have gluten in it. The other recent find was the sweet-and-sour sensation. Fried tofu with an orange sauce basically but the way they cook it you wouldn't know that it's tofu "IMO". This restaurant is a true true blessing because most restaurants either offer a really great main dish menu or appetizer menu, but not both this restaurant has both..
Still hoping they offer a coupon, things are getting tight, and I can't order as much ch as I like or as many times as I like. please consider!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 1, 2022Previous reviewSo I wanted to try a new Chinese restaurant for dinner. What I ordered and what I received didn't seem the same, but unique. I first tried the spring roll, good flavor, crunchy and greasy. Pot stickers, deep fried not pan fried.
Then I moved on to what I thought was soup, looked like white sauce lobster sauce. Moved on to another white sauce dish that had a mouth feel of Filo dough, but I think it's tofu skin. Filled with rice noodles. Satisfying in the sense it's different and chewy. Last was the Lo- mein and Sobu noodles which I'm too stuffed to consider.
A great value from my normal place. Although I wish they offered a coupon. Over $50.00 should get a freebie. IMO! - 261963437Jan 6, 2023
This is a solid choice for vegan Asian food. Everything I had was tasty and fresh. The portions for entrees are huge, too. The service was adequate. I would definitely come back here.
I was not feeling any of the entrees that night (which is totally just my mood, not reflective of the restaurant), so I did a bowl of the hot and sour soup and a couple of apps: the bbq pork and fried wontons. I thought my soup was excellent. It was the perfect amount of spicy, and the flavor was great beyond just spice. The bbq pork was unique, but so good. I almost didn't want to share it with the rest of my family. Ha! The fried wontons were flavorful and despite being fried, they were not greasy or left me feeling heavy.
My husband and his dad split the "Sizzling Platter" off the house specialty selection, and it was HUGE! It was easily enough food for both of them with leftovers. It even came with rice.
All of the meals come with a pot of tea as well, which was nice.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2022
I visited Grasshopper for a vegan meal in Allston. We ordered the wonton and the dumplings. Both came fried. Both would have been better if steamed. I also ordered the seraj curry which was the highlight of the meal. We had some vegan lo mien that was OK, but average. Service was decent. The location was clean. The decor was nothing special but the furnishings were functional.

Absolute steal. The amount of food you get for what you pay is great, and it's all vegan! The coconut noodles and anything with the seitan are really good. They have so many creative options to try. The inside is actually pretty nice, it's a shame more people don't go in person. My only complaint is that they could use less plastic in their takeout packaging.

i absolutely loved my first grasshopper experience!! i got it delivered and everything was correct, still hot, and super yummy!
- the tofu with american broccoli is going to be my new go to. they pack it full! there was so much broccoli and tofu! but i had to order a side of rice separately fyi!
- i got a side of lo mein noodles. the noodles were plain but the flavor was not! they were so yummy and are great as leftovers to mix with your own protein and veggies the next day.
- the spring rolls, sadly, we're not it. i couldn't eat half of one. was disappointed with that one
overall had such an amazing experience and will definitely be ordering delivery from here more often! i wish the spring rolls were better and i wish the entrees would come with rice instead of buying it separately. otherwise it was a 10/10 from meHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sep 17, 2022
I am so glad I came here spontaneously after finding myself in the area. I was one of few people in a Friday evening in the massive seating area available, but there was only one waiter in staff so I guess it was okay. The food was very well priced and the portions very generous. I ordered the taro shell special and the buckwheat noodles (#51) with black bean sauce. Both were very good-- the taro shell was especially delicious, combining the crunch from the shell with the veggies in a slightly gingery slightly sweet soy sauce. There was an assortment of faux meats from vegan shrimp to chicken and tofu. Lots of veggies, plus a light bed of lettuce. Huge, and delicious! Worth splitting with two to four people if you want to finish the whole thing (depending on how much other stuff you order). The buckwheat noodles has a sweeter taste, less ginger, pretty standard Asian flavor. The dish felt very much like a hearty home cooked noodle stir fry meal, with generous veggies. Next time I want to try the Eggplant and Tofu special, but I think my go to will definitely be the Taro bowl. Highly recommend!
Overall restaurant had great service and food came out quick, though the bathroom was not in service when I came.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
