Grass Roots Natural Foods

I'm new to town and like very much to seek out local sources for my freshtastic needs. Grass Roots is a really fulfilling grocery experience - there's always someone on the floor to answer questions and there is a perfect amount of diverse goods carefully stocked for ease of picking. All the fresh goods are organic; most are local.

For me, a bonus: their supplement stash is more extensive and high quality than similar stores I've been to in the area. I was able to find things there I'd only ever been able to order online. And I'd much rather #shoplocal!

My favorite things are the artist-painted soap tub and the discount produce corner.

Every city needs a local health food store and I was stoked to find Grass Roots.

They have a huge selection of natural foods and products you can feel good about buying for your own well being and to support local and small businesses.

Things might be more expensive than another chain grocery store but you're paying for quality and it's it's worth it than going to another place like Whole Foods.

Produce section is decent, lots of plant based items which I love, bulk spices and tons of supplements and wellness/beauty/toiletry items too.

Could be a little tricky to get in and out of being located right at the Y but easy enough to figure out.

Cool little grocery store. They have honey, maple syrup on tap and house made tofu. Over all a good experience. Yes I recommend!!

This place is amazing! What a gem of a grocery store.

First of all there is a cute little community library right out front if you're hankering for a book to read and by the looks of it, it was chock full of books!

We just needed to buy some mushrooms for dinner but I did not find the grocery selection lacking or the prices to be outlandish. Definitely saw some specialty products I see sold at Whole Foods priced here a little more affordably. Plus they had some local items like Tahoe locally grown mushrooms and nut butters. Great diversity of drinks and snacks, anything you can think of. They even had Dandelion chocolate from SF!

I really loved all the bulk items you could buy piecemeal even spices. Loved the idea of buying as much or as little of the grains or beans or honey or olive oil you want. Perfect if you're in town for just a few days. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were barely any customers in the store.

I didn't see this section but a friend had mentioned they do half off older fruits/veggies which is a great idea! Also don't forget free pizza after 6PM which I didn't partake in but hey can't beat free.

Choose a local business instead of a big chain. Grass Roots Natural Foods is South Lake Tahoe's best place for organics. It has a surprisingly good selection. Has a few prepared foods. The prices are typical of a store like this but has some good prices on a few things.

It seems like a small place where there isn't much to choose from. Take a look around around you see there's actually a large selection. This isn't a supermarket so there's not endless possibilities, but there's a lot to check out in here, and you can put together a good meal or two. Maybe you don't feel like making anything. No problem. It has a few premade items. Organic items abound, where you can find things like breads, snacks, and wraps. Get some supplements and vitamins here. Prices are typical, which aren't cheap, but you can find some cheaper items.

Get a lot in this small store that's a local favorite. It has some fresh produce and other items. The prices are higher than a typical grocery store but they're still cheaper than many of the restaurants so you can still find a way to save money by shopping.

Immaculate, fun, great selection, noticeably better prices than Whole Foods, helpful and friendly staff. A terrific store.

One of my favorite places to shop in SLT! They've always got a great selection of dairy free items & a wide variety of chips. Also appreciate their selection of cruelty free/natural cleaning products. Staff is always super friendly & helpful.

Yep, my boyfriend and I always seek out the local healthiest market wherever we go. I've frequented Grass Roots long ago before their new building and now just recently. Just as wonderful as it was 8 years ago! It has that slight incense smell that used to be true of all small stores like this. The store is bright, well stocked and full of healthful choices for food and ailments. So much better than going to Whole Foods/Amazon everyone!

This place is awesome. The employees are always friendly and helpful. The fruits, vegetables and selections are wonderful. I will always be a faithful customer.

Great local and knowledgeable staff, full selection of goods, wine section, vast vitamin and healthcare department, fresh pizza, sandwiches to go, natural beauty department, essential oils, you name it, it's packed in here! I've been patronizing this store for 15 years. Never need to go to Whole Foods with the great selection here.

Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike.
